While Detweiller Park (pictured) will be empty this weekend, there should be some great meets across the state.

Here is your roadmap of some of those meets this week along with notes for some of those races.

Palatine Invitational Meet Page

St. Joseph-Ogden Spartan Classic

Boys Ranked Teams – 1A: #2 Monticello, #5 Urbana University, #6 El Paso Gridley, #22 Deer Creek-Mackinaw, #23 Paxton-Buckley-Loda. Boys Entered Teams – Arthur-Lovington, Carlinville, Cowden-Herrick, Decatur St. Teresa, St. Anthony, Neoga, St. Joseph-Ogden, Toledo Cumberland, Tolono Unity, Tremont, Tuscola

Girls Ranked Teams – 1A: #1 Tolono Unity, #4 St. Joseph-Ogden, #8 Monticello, #12 El Paso-Gridley, #14 Urbana University, #24 Shelbyville; Girls Teams Entered – Carlinville, Cowden-Herrick, St. Teresa, Tri-Valley, St. Anthony, Neoga, Paxton-Buckley-Loda, Toledo Cumberland, Tremont, Tuscola.

Notes – Outside of the Palatine Invitational, this is one of the biggest meets of the weekend. Top ranked Tolono Unity will be challenged by host St. Joseph-Ogden on the streets of St. Joseph in the Girls race. The Girls Individual race is wide open with Unity’s Caroline Bachert the runner to watch. Monticello will be challenged by Urbana University and El-Paso Gridley in the Boys race. Monticello’s two to five pack improved last week in Peoria. They could be the difference in the team race. Garrett Dixon of Monticello ran 14:59 last week at Detweiller and should be the favorite in the individual race. This is a loaded field with Arthur-Lovington’s Layton Hall, Unity’s Cameron Woodard, and Tremont’s Leland Sumer some of the runners to watch in the front.

Naperville Girls Invitational @ Naperville North HS

Girls Ranked Teams – 3A: #1 Naperville North, #3 Downers Grove South, #16 Benet Academy, #25 Naperville Central; Girls Teams Entered – Mother McAuley, Lincoln-Way Central, Sandburg, Oswego East, Wheaton North.

Notes – It is hard to say what we will see in this meet. Naperville North Coach Dan Iverson hinted that he may not run some of his top runners in this meet. That was two weeks ago. That thought may have changed heading into Friday’s meet. We should see Downers South’s full line-up in this race. Benet Academy is coming off a win at Kaneland and will challenge DGS’ pack. If Naperville North holds out some of their runners, then Downers Grove South’s Brenna Cohoon could be the runner to watch.

Springfield Invitational @ Lincoln Park, Springfield

Boys Ranked Teams – 2A: #1 Chatham-Glenwood, #7 Springfield, #8 Danville, #16 Mascoutah; 1A: #11 Pleasant Plains; Boys Teams Entered – Granite City, Belleville East, Champaign Centennial, Highland, Jacksonville, Marion, Mt Vernon, Rochester, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin, Springfield Southeast, Taylorville, Illini Central, Williamsville, Liberty, Litchfield, Springfield Lutheran.

Girls Ranked Teams – 2A: #10 Chatham-Glenwood; 1A: #6 Pleasant Plains, #11 Williamsville; Girls Teams Entered – Belleville East, Granite City, Champaign Centennial, Danville, Highland, Jacksonville, Mt. Vernon, Rochester, Springfield, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin, Springfield Southeast, Taylorville, Liberty, Litchfield, Springfield Lutheran.

Notes – 2A Top ranked Chatham-Glenwood should be the team favorite in the Boys race. Watch for Cooper Peterson to be closer to Drey and Dathan Maton towards the front. Danville showed improvement last week at Decatur MacArthur and will look to challenge Springfield for the second spot. Andrew O’Keefe of Granite City ran strong two weeks ago and should be the favorite int his race. Michael Moreman of Danville, John Bruce of Marion, and Casmir Cozzi of Mascoutah should challenge the Glenwood trio in the front of the pack.

Chatham-Glenwood could make it a sweep for their school in this meet as they should be the clear favorite in the Girls race with Pleasant Plains, Williamsville, and Highland the next in line.

Bartlett Invitational @ Sunrise Park

Boys Ranked Teams – 3A: #2 St. Charles East, #18 Batavia, #24 DeKalb; Boys Entered Teams – Jacobs, Aurora East, Bartlett, Glenbard North, Conant, Lincoln-Way Central, Fremd, Plainfield East, Schaumburg, South Elgin, Wheaton Academy.

Girls Ranked Teams – 3A #6 Batavia; 2A #5 Crystal Lake South, #17 Wheaton Academy; Girls Teams Entered – Jacobs, Aurora East, Bartlett, DeKalb, Elgin, Conant, Glenbard East, Plainfield East, Schaumburg, South Elgin, St. Charles North

Notes – St. Charles East will not be running their varsity team in the Boys race. Batavia will be challenged by DeKalb, Jacobs, and Lincoln-Way Central for the Boys team title. Lincoln-Way Central’s Jared Kries will be the runner to watch up front. Just like St. Charles East in the Boys race, will we see Batavia at full strength in this meet? It would be great to see Katherine Olsen of DeKalb to challenge Katrina Schlenker in the front. Crystal Lake South has moved up to fifth in 2A and could be the team to challenge Batavia for the Girls title.

East Peoria Invitational

Boys Ranked Teams – 2A: #2 Bloomington, #6 Mahomet-Seymour, #12 Washington; 1A: #12 Eureka; Boys Teams Entered – Normal Community, Normal West, Normal University, Pekin, Canton, Dunlap, East Peoria, Galesburg, Morton, Peoria Richwoods, Streator, Urbana. St. Thomas-More, Pontiac.

Girls Ranked Teams – 2A #4 Mahomet-Seymour, #7 Normal University, #12 Washington, #18 Morton; 1A: #2 Eureka, #22 St. Thomas More; Girls Teams Entered – Normal Community, Normal West, Pekin, Bloomington, Canton, East Peoria, Galesburg, Peoria Richwoods, Streator, Urbana, Pontiac

Notes – Bloomington will be the favorite in the Boys team race. It will be the individual race that will be fun to watch. Mahomet-Seymour’s Mathias Powell, Nick Doud of Bloomington, and Charlie Wetzel of Normal West all are top flight runners that could come away with the win.

The Girls individual race should be just as good with Aspen Gordon of Morton, Fran Hendrickson of St. Thomas More, Elizabeth Sims of Mahomet-Seymour, and Paige Arseneau of Pekin all capable of winning. Mahomet-Seymour and Normal University are closely matched. It could come down to under 10 points to decide the team winner in the Girls race.

Rock River Run @ Woodlawn Park, Sterling

Boys Ranked Teams – 2A: #3 Kaneland, #4 Dixon, #13 Sycamore, #19 Belvidere North; 1A: #14 Rock Falls; Boys Teams Entered – Geneva, Hampshire, Rockton Hononegah, Yorkville, Belvidere, Hinsdale South, Freeport, Geneseo, LaSalle-Peru, Ottawa, Rochelle, Sterling

Girls Ranked Teams – 3A: #2 Yorkville, #20 Rockton Hononegah; 2A: #1 Belvidere North, #8 Rosary, #11 Dixon, #15 Geneseo, #16 Kaneland; 1A: #5 Rock Falls; Girls Teams Entered – Geneva, Hampshire, Belvidere, Freeport, LaSalle-Peru, Ottawa, Rochelle, Sterling, Sycamore

Notes – This race should be a good tune-up for Yorkville for next week’s Roy Griak Meet as they should be the favorite in this race ahead of 2A top ranked Belvidere North and Hononegah along with 1A Rock Falls. If Yorkville has all their runners in this race, the individual race should be great with Yorkville’s Emily Eberhart, Helena Kleronomos, and Kailey Fox, Rosary’s Lilianna Surtz, Belvidere North’s Madison Diercks and Gianna Sagona, Kaneland’s Rachel Richtman, and Taylor Frommer of Hononegah leading the front pack in this loaded race.

Kaneland and Dixon face off for the third week in a row in the Boys team race. Dawson Smith of Rock Falls, Collin Grady of Dixon, and Daniel Occhipinti of Kaneland will be runners to watch in the front.
