Illinois High School Cross Country - Weekend Highlights - October 15, 2018

We are less than three weeks until the IHSA State Cross Country Meet on November 3. The state series started in earnest last week with conference and major 1A invitationals across the state.

Here is a quick look at each of those meets from Thursday until Saturday.

Big 12 Conference @ Detweiller Park

Bloomington captured their second straight Boys team championship with 44 points ahead of Normal Community (64 points) and Normal West (88 points). Charlie Wetzel of Normal West pulled away to win the individual race (15:00) ahead of Bloomington’s Nick Doud by 15 seconds (15:15). Bloomington placed five runners in the top 19 with a 73 second split on the group. Their two to five split was only 37 seconds.

Bloomington’s Girls team also won their conference race with 48 points led by Kaitlin Skeate’s individual win. The sophomore’s time of 18:30 was 16 seconds ahead of second-place Chian Scott of Urbana. Normal Community (67 points) and Notre Dame (79 points) finished second and third.

 

Big Northern Conference @ Oregon

Dixon placed five runners in the top 11 to win the Boys team title with 27 points ahead of Rockford Christian (55 points), Rock Falls (97 points), and Winnebago (98 points). Rockford Christian did not have their top runner Riley Wells in their lineup on Saturday. Collin Grady of Dixon ran 16:35 to win by 18 seconds ahead of Rock Falls’ Dawson Smith. Dixon had a 36 second split on their second through fifth runners. Their overall scoring split was 65 seconds.

The finish of the Girls team race was “ultra-tight”. Rock Falls won the conference championship (48 points) just one point ahead of Winnebago (49 points) and another point ahead of third-place Dixon (50 points). Winnebago’s Natalia Martino ran 19:16 to capture the win as she finished five seconds ahead of Bailee Fortney of Rock Falls.

 

St. Anthony Bulldog Challenge @ Effingham

Stanford Olympia swept both team titles in this invitational meet. Savanah Beavers and Payton Wille swept the top two spots as Olympia scored 55 points for the team win ahead of Mt. Zion (67 points) and Teutopolis (103 points). Beavers’ time of 18:06 was 30 seconds ahead of her teammate Wille.

Olympia dominated the Boys race scoring 31 points with a 34 second split on their scorers that finished in the top 12. Charleston’s Austin Ames ran 14:59 to win the individual race by 30 seconds ahead of Olympia’s Jon Neville.

 

Cahokia Conference Meet @ Okaw Valley Park

Freeburg placed four runners in the top 10 to lead the Midgets to the conference win with 43 points. Steeleville (53 points) and Columbia (61 points) finished second and third. Corbin Schwable of Freeburg ran 16:18 to win the individual race by eight seconds ahead of Columbia’s Ethan Sturm.

Freeburg scored 28 points to win the Girls team title led by Breanna Chandler’s individual win. Chandler’s winning time of 19:36 was 13 seconds faster than second-place finisher of Maddie Quandt of Salem. New Athens (96 points) and Breese Central (112 points) finished second and third.

 

Central State Eight Conference Meet @ Scovill Golf Course, Decatur

Normal University placed five runners in the top 14 including four runners in the top nine to win back to back Boys championships with 37 points. Springfield finished second with 46 points. 2A top ranked Chatham-Glenwood finished third (50 points) without their top runner Graham Turk. “We held him out this week,” said their coach Mike Garber. “He will be fine going forward. It was a pretty rough course today and he had a knee issue last week that is almost healed. No reason to push him. He will be fine in championship season.”

Dathan Maton of Glenwood ran 15:43 for the win ahead of his brother Drey by four seconds. U-High, led by Jackson McClure’s third-place finish, had a 47 second split on their top five.

It was close in the Girls team race as Normal University scored 31 points for the conference title ahead of Chatham-Glenwood (38 points). U-High captured the top two spots in the individual race as Ella Bittner and Mackie Madix finished together running 19:06. Glenwood’s Nia Gibson finished third (19:35). U-High’s top five split was 75 seconds. Chatham-Glenwood’s top five split was 30 seconds.

 

Central Suburban League @ Deerfield

Tommy Brady of Maine South was convincing in the Boys individual race running 14:45 for the league championship. Brady finished 26 seconds ahead of Highland Park’s Jose Reyes (15:11) and Evanston’s Max Peterson and Vernon Hills’ James McDonald who both ran 15:12. Manie South had the top Boys score with 50 points as they placed five runners in the top 16 with a 58 second split on their scorers. New Trier finished second (59 points) with a 27 second split on their top five led by Andrew Flynn’s sixth-place finish.

New Trier won the Girls league title with 33 points with six runners in the top 14 led by the individual win from Bridget Forbes. The individual race was close as Forbes ran 17:39 one second ahead of Glenbrook South’s Kate Jortberg (17:40). Vernon Hills finished second (60 points) with a 60 second top five split off Hannah Ray’s sixth-place finish. New Trier’s top five split was 56 seconds.

 

Chicago Catholic League / GCAC Championships @ Lewis University

Loyola Academy, led by the fourth-place finish from Spencer Dzyacky, placed all of their scorers in the top 15 to capture the CCL title with 50 points. Marmion Academy, led by the individual win from Anthony Zangler, finished second with 57 points. St. Ignatius finished third (83 points. Zangler’s time of 15:17 was 12 seconds ahead of second-place Jacob Flynn of St. Ignatius.

The GCAC title went to St. Ignatius’ Girls team with 34 points just five points ahead of Fenwick (39 points) with Loyola Academy third (49 points). Rhiannon O’Keefe of St. Ignatius ran 18:28 for the win with Fenwick’s Marie O’Brien and Arlene Amaya placing second and third. The split on five for the Wolfpack, who had their scorers in the top 11, was 36 seconds.

 

Chicago Public League Championships @ Washington Park, Chicago

Jones College Prep captured the Boys team title with only an 11 second split on their top five runners. It was close as the Eagles scored 38 points for the win just three points ahead of Whitney Young (41 points) with Lane Tech placing third (68 points). Sam Rivera dominated the individual race as he ran 15:05 to win by 26 seconds ahead of teammate Charlie Nevins (15:31).

Whitney Young swept the team and individual title in the Girls Varsity race. Ella Behrens ran 17:50 for the individual win finishing 25 seconds ahead of her teammate Daphnie Murray. Taft’s Sydney Partyka was eight seconds back in third (18:23). The Lady Dolphins scored 44 points for the City title placing four runners in the top 10, five runners in the top 26. Taft finished second (73 points). It was their highest finish ever in the City championships.

 

DuPage Valley Conference Championships @ Waubonsie Valley

The conference is down to five teams, but the story was still the same in both the Boys and Girls races. Naperville North scored a perfect 15 points to win the team title sweeping the first seven places. Alex Morris led the Huskies’ charge with the individual title (17:37) ahead of teammates Campbell Petersen (17:43) and Maggie Gamboa (17:45). Naperville Central finished second (58 points) behind Emily R. Scott’s eight-place finish.

Neuqua Valley placed five runners in the top eight places to capture their 13th straight conference title with 26 points. Naperville Central (62 points), Waubonsie Valley (71 points), and Naperville North (74 points) were the next teams in. Neuqua’s five runner split was 36 seconds led by Michael Madiol and Chris Keeley’s two-three finish. Naperville Central’s Thomas Shilgalis captured the individual crown (15:01) winning by seven seconds ahead of Madiol.

 

East Suburban Catholic Conference Championships @ Arlington Park Race Course

Benet Academy again swept the Boys and Girls team titles Saturday at this conference meet held at Arlington Park International Race course. Their Boys team scored 29 points for the team win with Marist (85 points) and Notre Dame (94 points) finishing second and third. Benet’s Connor O’Keefe ran 15:54 for the individual win finishing four seconds ahead of Ryan Jones of Marian Central Catholic. The Redwings ran a 56 second split on their top five off O’Keefe’s individual win.

Benet Academy’s Girls team also scored 26 points for the team title placing five runners in the top 11. Their split in their top five led by Emily Spellman’s second-place finish was 57 seconds. St. Viator and Marist both scored 69 points with St. Viator getting second on the sixth-runner tiebreak. St. Viator’s Katie Castelli ran 18:36 to win the conference individual title.

 

Eureka Invitational @ Eureka Lower Lake Park

Eureka swept both team titles in this meet which is also called the Heart of Illinois Conference Meet. Eureka’s Boys team scored 47 points to win ahead of El Paso-Gridley (56 points) and Deer Creek-Mackinaw (76 points). EPG ran without one of their top five Asa Smith. Colby Johnson ran 15:46 on the 2.9-mile course to capture the win by three seconds ahead of Eureka’s Kyle Johnson.

Eureka placed six runners in the top 10 to easily win the Girls title with 21 points. El Paso-Gridley, still without their top runner Kate Atkins, finished second with 57 points. Eureka’s Emma Argo easily won the individual race. Her time of 17:51 was 49 seconds ahead of teammate Alexi Fogo.

 

Fox Valley Conference Championships @ Hampshire HS

Cary-Grove placed three runners in the top five and five runners in the top 13 to win the Girls team title with 35 points. 2A top 10 teams Prairie Ridge (54 points) and Crystal Lake South (73 points) finished second and third. Crystal Lake South’s Mackenzie Aldridge ran 18:12 for the individual win ahead of Cary-Grove freshman Maggie Mason by 18 seconds (18:30). Cary-Grove ran a 53 second split on their top five runners.

Huntley’s power up front was the difference in the Boys race. The Red Raiders placed three runners in the top six to help them capture the team title with 42 points. Jacobs (74 points) and Cary-Grove (96 points) finished second and third. Adam Swanson of Dundee-Crown pulled away down the stretch to win the individual race (15:41) by three seconds ahead of Huntley’s Ian Geisler. Huntley’s split on their top five was 57 seconds.

 

Interstate Eight/Independents Classic @ Lisle Community Park

Seven points separated the top three teams in the Boys race.  Brian Walsh and Aidan Dunaway finished fourth and fifth to lead Northridge Prep to the team win (57 points) ahead of Herscher (62 points) and Seneca (64 points). Seneca’s Christopher Collet commanded the individual race running 16:11 for five-kilometers in winning by 36 seconds ahead of Herscher freshman Drew Rodgers (16:47).

Herscher placed all of their scorers in the top nine to easily win the Girls team race with 27 points. Molly Raymond led her team with a third-place finish. Seneca scored 66 points to finish second. Freshman took the top two spots as Seneca’s Audrey Jenkins ran 19:53 for the win six seconds ahead of Peotone’s Gracie Battiato.

 

Kishwaukee River Conference @ Richmond-Burton

Burlington Central won both the Boys and Girls Conference titles in two close battles with Woodstock. Anthony Farmer and Gio Martinez captured the first two places in the Boys race as the Rockets edged Woodstock 34 to 37 for the team title. Woodstock’s Julio Arellano-Zapata finished third. Farmer’s winning time of 15:18 was 44 seconds ahead of teammate Martinez.

Burlington Central’s six runners in the top 13 offset the three runners in the top six by Woodstock to capture the Girls team title with 36 points. Woodstock scored 41 points to finish third. Woodstock’s Kylie Hagmann ran 18:21 to win the individual race by 16 seconds ahead of Burlington Central’s Erin Jossart.

 

Metro Suburban Conference Championships @ Elmwood Park

Both the Blue and Red Division races were run on the Elmwood Park Campus course.

Lianna Surtz of Rosary was in another zip code in the Girls Blue Division race. Surtz’s winning time of 17:21 was 88 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Tara Janney of Riverside-Brookfield. St. Francis won the Blue Division (48 points) placing five runners in the top 16. Rosary scored 56 points to finish second.

IC Catholic Prep has developed during the season as a top five 1A team. The Knights placed five in the top seven to win the Red Division with 20 points led by the one-two finish from Carly Manchester (18:23) and Kennedy Calcagno (19:09).

St. Francis also captured the Blue Division title in the Boys race with 46 points led by the one-two finish from Dan Weizeorick (16:00) and Jon Aquino (16:03). Elmwood Park with a 3-4-5 finish led by Carlos Sanchez finished second with 56 points.

Timothy Christian edged Chicago Christian 38 to 39 for the Red Division team title. Timothy Christian’s Clint Fincher ran 16:32 for the win by two seconds ahead of Nathaniel Rivera from Chicago Christian.

 

Mid Suburban League Championships @ Melas Park, Mt. Prospect

Hersey’s Boys team tuned up for the state series with a convincing league championship victory. The Huskies got a 1-3 finish from Josh Methner and Ryan Buch to help win the team championship with 43 points. Barrington was next with 57 points led by Patrick Furlong and his fifth-place finish. Rolling Meadows finished third (76 points) with Eddie Lennon leading the way for the Mustangs finishing second. Methner’s winning time of 14:44 was 38 seconds ahead of Lennon. Hersey, who placed five runners in the top 21, had an 86 second split on their top five. Their split from their second to fifth runner was 52 seconds.

Prospect’s league championship win in the Girls race was just as convincing. The Knights placed all their seven runners in the top 15 with only a 22 second split on five to win with 44 points. Prospect was led by the five-six finish from Audrey Ginsberg and Emily Hubbard. Barrington placed their top three runners in the first four spots to finish second (70 points) just two points ahead of third-place Palatine (72 points). Barrington’s Molly FitzPatrick ran 17:32 to win the individual title by 14 seconds ahead of Palatine’s Anne Marie Jordan.

 

NIB-12 Conference Championships @ Geneseo

Yorkville won the Girls conference title for the final time placing six in the top eight to score only 18 points. The Lady Foxes will move to the Southwest Prairie Conference beginning in the fall of 2019. Yorkville took the first three spots led by Emily Eberhart’s individual win (17:44). Helena Kleronomos (17:49) and Kailey Fox (18:03) finished second and third. Their five-runner split was 71 seconds. Katherine Olsen led DeKalb’s second-place finish (75 points) by finishing fourth overall.

Daniel Occhipinti won the Boys individual race helping Kaneland win the team title with 56 points. Yorkville (50 points), DeKalb (56 points), and Sycamore (67 points) were the next three teams. Occhipinti’s winning time of 15:49 was five seconds ahead of the DeKalb duo of Aidan Donohue and Jacob Trapp.

 

NIC-10 Conference Championships @ Rockford

Hononegah was in charge in this meet capturing both the Girls and Boys team titles. Taylor Frommier finished third to lead Hononegah to the team win 28 to 32 ahead of 2A top ranked Belvidere North. The Indians placed five runners in the top eight with a 49 second split on the group. Belvidere North were led by Madison Diercks individual win (18:04) just four seconds ahead of teammate Gianna Sagona.

Hononegah placed five runners in the top 13 to win the Boys team title with 38 points as Belvidere North scored 73 points to finish second. Noah Friske of Rockford East ran 16:00 to win by eight seconds ahead of Max Beutel of Belvidere North.

 

North Lake County Conference Championships

Grant Community won the Girls Championship with (39 points) placing their top five in the first 13 places. Lakes Community and Grayslake Central both scored 76 points with Lakes getting second on the tiebreaker. Fatima Giron of Round Lake ran 17:31 to outdistance Lakes’ Brooke Stromsland by six seconds for the conference individual title. Grant’s Aly Negovetich ran 18:10 to finish third.

Lakes Community grouped their top three runners from fifth to seventh to help them win the conference title with 47 points. Antioch finished second (72 points) behind Charlie Smith’s individual win. Smith’s winning time of 16:06 was just four seconds ahead of second-place Connor Riss of Grayslake North.

 

North Suburban Conference @ Vernon Hills Athletic Complex

Mundelein’s Boys team won their first conference title in the program’s history with 39 points. Carter Schorr, Dillon Blake, and Robert St. Clair finished third through fifth to lead the Mustangs. Mundelein ran a 30 second split on their top five that finished in the top 13 places. Lake Zurich finished second with 59 points. Nathan Schmitt of Lake Forest ran 15:20 to pick up the individual win by eight seconds ahead of Lake Zurich’s Jack Gilboy.

Warren Township placed three runners in the top 10 to help them win the Girls Championship with 63 points. Libertyville and Mundelein finished second and third both scoring 65 points. Warren was led by freshmen Raina Rice and Athena McGinn who finished fifth and sixth. Lake Zurich’s Emily Burns ran 18:17 to win the individual title as Stevenson’s Kendall Roberts ran 18:38 to finish second.

 

Peoria Heights Patriot Invitational @ Detweiller Park

The Boys team standings changed when it was discovered that Robinson ran eight runners in the Varsity race in this meet Saturday afternoon at Detweiller Park. With Robinson out of the scoring, Elmwood-Brimfield scored 94 points to win the team title with Monticello at 96 points placing second. Athens scored 186 points to finish third. With Robinson figured into the scoring, the outcome would have been Monticello 104, Elmwood 105, Robinson 146, Athens 201.

Elmwood’s pack looked great led by the 12-13 finish from Griff Inskeep and Thomas Harmon. Their split on five was only 19 seconds. Monticello was led by the individual win from Garrett Dixon. His winning time of 15:05 was 20 seconds faster than second-place finisher Negus Bogard of Robinson. Unity’s Cameron Woodard ran 15:29 to finish third.

Area rivals Tolono Unity and St. Joseph-Ogden will race each other the next three weeks. Meeting #1 on Saturday went to the 1A top ranked Tolono Unity Girls team as they scored 59 points for the win. St. Joseph-Ogden scored 93 points ahead of third-place Pleasant Plains (100 points). Unity, led by Jordan Harmon’s third-place finish, put five runners in the top 20 with only a 60 second split on that group. Sterling Newman’s Karlie Hey picked up her second major win within a week winning the Girls race (17:54) by four seconds ahead of Liberty’s Katelyn Robbins.

 

South Suburban Conference – Blue Division @ North Creek Meadow, Lansing

Lemont won both team titles in this conference meet. Lemont’s Boys team placed five in the top 15 to win with 47 points ahead of TF North (56 points) and Bremen (67 points). The finish was close as Mike Reif of Oak Forest edged TF North’s Jesus Espinosa by three tenths of a second for the win. Both were timed at 16:29.

Lemont swept the first six places in the Girls race to score 15 points for the win. Oak Forest was the closes team with 69 points. Kaylie Politza led the Lemont sweep running 18:54 for the win finishing 50 seconds ahead of teammate Marin Schiffman.

 

South Suburban Conference – Red Division @ Evergreen Park

Shepard, paced by Evan Jamrozy’s individual win, put three runners in the top six places to win the Boys team title with 42 points. Reavis scored 68 points to finish second just ahead of Oak Lawn (71 points). Jamrozy’s winning time of 16:18 was 34 seconds ahead of Richards’ David Olmos.

Reavis won the Girls team title with 45 points placing their scorers in the top 15. Abby Lopez of Argo was in charge of the individual race as she ran 18:22 to win by more than two minutes.

 

Southwest Suburban Conference Championships @ Lockport Township Campus Course

Sandburg put five runners in the top 13 led by Will and Ben Giblin finishing third and fifth to capture the team title with 39 points. The split on Sandburg’s top five was 56 seconds. Lockport scored 58 points to finish second led by Donovan Paske’s sixth-place finish. Their split on five was 38 seconds. Two runners were under 15-minutes as Lincoln-Way East’s Brett Gardner ran 14:57 to capture the individual title ahead of Lincoln-Way Central’s Jared Kries (14:59) by two seconds.

Lockport Township was in charge in the Girls race. The Lady Porters placed five runners in the top seven to win with 28 points. Lincoln-Way East (61 points) finished second. Lincoln-Way Central’s Merrigan Allen ran 18:53 to win the Girls race by 24 seconds ahead of Lockport’s Josephine Bober. Lockport’s split on five was 38 seconds.

 

Upstate Eight Conference Championships @ Sunrise Park, Bartlett

Glenbard East’s Maddie Weltin finished ninth to lead the Rams. It was their pack running that won the conference championship with 65 points as they had all their runners in by 18th place. Their split on five was only 32 seconds. West Aurora (82 points) and West Chicago finished second and third. South Elgin freshman Naomi Ruff ran 18:14 for the win. Bartlett sisters Jenna and Camille Buchanan finished second and third.

West Aurora won the Boys title before moving to the Southwest Prairie Conference in 2019. The Blackhawks scored 36 points led by Julian DeLeon’s third place finish. East Aurora (66 points) finished second and were led by individual race winner Jesus Nava. His time of 16:00 was 20 seconds ahead of teammate Hugo Mosqueda.

 

West Suburban Conference – Gold Division @ Harvester Park, Burr Ridge

The new course at Harvester Park received rave reviews on Saturday. Two course records were set because this was the first time that this layout was used.

Downers Grove South won the Girls Conference title for the 20th straight season as the Mustangs swept the first seven places. Brenna Cohoon ran a fast 17:05 to win the individual race by 28 seconds ahead of teammate Melissa Weidner.

Downers Grove South’s Boys team put six in the first seven to score 17 points for the win ahead of Morton Township (66 points). The Mustangs had a 50 second split on their top five led by Eddie Siuda’s individual win. His time of 15:02 was 10 seconds ahead of teammates John Heneghan (15:12) and John Norris (15:14).

 

Friday

 

Mid-Illini Conference Championships @ Detweiller Park

Snow flurries hit Detweiller Park Friday afternoon just in time for this meet. Sloppy conditions welcomed the runners throughout the course. Washington put four runners in the top nine to help them win the Boys conference title with 44 points ahead of Metamora (47 points) and Pekin (55 points). Morton’s Sam Lange ran 15:35 to win by two seconds ahead of Pekin’s Brody Blackwell.

Dunlap, led by Macy Priess and her fifth-place finish, placed five runners in the top 17 to win the conference title with 51 points. Morton (64 points), Washington (71 points), Metamora (74 points), and Pekin (80 points) were next in line. Morton put three runners in the first four led by Aspen Gordon running 17:43 for the individual win. Megan Moreno followed (18:02) with Pekin’s Paige Arseneau finishing third (18:11).

 

Thursday

 

Black Diamond Conference @ Ferne Clyffe State Park, Goreville

Hamilton County placed six runners in the top nine for the team win (19 points) led by Evan Shelton’s individual win. Hamilton County’s Girls team scored 39 points for the team win led by freshman Maddie Karcher and her individual win. She ran 18:46 to win by 71 seconds ahead of Carmi’s Mackenzie Willis.

 

Central Illinois Conference Championships @ Weldon Springs

Clinton, led by the 2-3 finish from Ethan Black and Ty Brennan, scored 31 points for the team title ahead of Tuscola (56points) and Shelbyville (72 points). St. Teresa’s Jackson Stewart ran 15:51 for the individual win by 54 seconds ahead of Black.

Paige Turney of Clinton ran 18:23 to win the Girls individual race ahead of the Shelbyville duo of Ailey Mitchell (18:29) and Gabrielle Spain (18:36). St. Teresa placed five runners in the top 13 including four runners in the top nine to win the team title (37 points) ahead of Shelbyville (59 points).

 

Independent School League @ Washington Park, Chicago

Latin School placed four runners in the first six to score 24 points to win the Girls title with Chicago University placing second (39 points). Latin’s Marianne Mihas ran 17:48 for the win five seconds ahead of teammate Ava Parekh.

Chicago University edged Northridge Prep 34 to 36 behind the win by U-High’s Abraham Zelchenko. His time of 16:33 was three seconds faster than teammate Nicky Edwards-Levin.

 

Mississippi Valley Conference Championships @ Principia College

Triad’s Boys team won their first conference title in six years as they scored 40 points finishing ahead of Mascoutah (48 points) and Waterloo (79 points). Triad was led by the 4-5 finish from Jarod Willis and Drake Bleier. Casmir Cozzi of Mascoutah ran 15:42 for the win 18 seconds ahead of Waterloo’s Eli Ward.

Waterloo’s Jenna Schwartz ran 17:51 to win by 108 seconds ahead of Highlands Julia Loeh in the Girls race. Highland placed five runners in the top nine to win the team title with 26 points. Waterloo finished second (40 points).

 

South Seven Conference Championships @ Marion

Crede Correll ran 15:33 for the individual win to lead Centralia to the Boys Conference team win with 34 points. Carbondale scored 46 points to finish second. Correll’s time of 15:33 was seven seconds ahead of Carbondale’s Ethan Cherry and Camden Sadler of Belleville Althoff.

Carbondale scored 28 points to win the Girls team title ahead of Belleville Althoff (37 points). Carbondale’s Madeline Prideaux ran 18:34 to win the individual race by 30 seconds ahead of Centralia’s Cheyenne Finley.

 

SIRR Conference Championships @ Carterville

Benton and DuQuoin were the divisional winners in this meet. Michael Oliver of Harrisburg won the Ohio Division race in 16:04. Benton took the next five places led by Joey Sample to win the team title with 20 points. Sparta’s Isaac Sinn ran 15:55 to win the Mississippi Division as DuQuoin won the team title (47 points) to finish ahead of Pinckneyville (58 points).

Amelia McLain ran 18:05 to win the individual race leading Benton to the Ohio Divisional with 25 points. DuQuoin edged Pinckneyville 32 to 39 to win the Mississippi Division race behind the 1-2 finish from Gabrielle Alongi (18:25) and Olivia Phillips (19:27).

 

Southwest Conference Championships @ Belleville West

It became a dual meet in the Boys race between O’Fallon and Edwardsville as O’Fallon had the edge winning 278 to 30. O’Fallon placed five runners in the top eight with a 39 second split on the group. Edwardsville placed their scorers in the top 12 led by Roland Prenzler’s win. His time of 14:42 was nine seconds ahead of O’Fallon’s Will Van Alstine.

Edwardsville had the edge in the Girls race. Led by Abby Korak’s individual win, the Lady Tigers scored 36 points for the win ahead of O’Fallon (45 points) and Belleville East (53 points). Korak’s time of 17:14 was 50 seconds ahead of Hannah Eastman of Belleville East.

 

Western Big Six Conference Championships @ Empire Park

Moline swept the Boys and Girls team titles in this meet. Their Boys team placed five runners in the top 12 led by the 5-6 finish from Tim Wolf and Nikola Stojanovic. The Maroons scored 36 points finishing ahead of Galesburg (72 points) and East Moline (73 points). Quincy freshman Fiker Rosen ran 15:41 for the individual win finishing eight seconds ahead of Moline’s Jackson McClellan.

It was closer in the Girls race as Moline scored 53 points for the win edging East Moline by two points. Moline’s Lylia Gomez ran 18:54 to win by 30 seconds ahead of Alleman’s Alexandra Cajigal.
