The choice was clear in Boys Field Events with one athlete standing out ahead of the rest. CJ Shoaf of Mahomet-Seymour was our choice for the ILXCTF.com Boys Field Events Athlete of the Year.

Shoaf was one of eleven athletes to clear 7-0 or better nationally during this outdoor season. The senior earned All-American honors by finishing fifth at The Outdoor Nationals in Oregon this past June. Shoaf was dominant in the event in Illinois this season going undefeated in the eight events he competed in outdoors. He cleared 7-0 or better twice in 2021 with his best of 7-0.25 coming in a meet in Chicago at the end of March.

His clearance of 6-9.25 was good enough to win the Class 2A State Meet in the High contested in temperatures of 96 degrees when he jumped.

Kyle Clabough of Yorkville was the choice as the Class 3A Boys Field Events Athlete of the Year. The junior went undefeated in the 14 meets that he competed in the Shot Put this season. His best came early in the season with a 65-5.75 season opener on April 22. His put of 61-6.5 was good enough to win the state championship on June 19. He also qualified for the state meet in the Discus.

Clabough was ranked among the top 10 athletes in the Shot Put nationally in 2021. He is currently ranked #7.

Jadon Robertson of Cowden-Herrick was all-state in three events at the 1A State Finals on June 17. His win in the High Jump locked up our choice as the Class 1A Boys Field Events Athlete of the Year. Robertson was one of two athletes on Cowden Herrick’s team that finished in a tie for third in the team state competition.

The junior cleared a personal best of 6-6.25 to win the High Jump. He also jumped 21-8.25 to finish third in the Long Jump. Robertson also won the 110 High Hurdles.
