Payton Godsey, a junior at Oaks Christian High in California, won the Marmonte League girls varsity cross country title at the championship meet at Agoura High. Godsey covered the 3-mile layout in 16:43.07 to elevate to the No. 2 all-time competitor on the course, producing the third-fastest performance in history at Agoura. Only Simi Valley graduate Sarah Baxter, who ran 16:22.92 in 2013 and 16:37.58 in 2012, achieved faster marks than Godsey, who improved from a fifth-place effort last year in 18:09.48. Godsey helped Oaks Christian place five scorers in the top 12 to lead the Lions to a runner-up performance behind Newbury Park by a 26-30 margin.
