2016 DyeStat Illinois Athlete of the Year - 3A GirlsPublished by
By Michael Newman DyeStat Illinois Editor There was only one athlete that stood out in a group of great 3A athletes during the 2016 Track & Field season in Illinois. That would have to be Alton’s LaJarvia Brown. Just like Jenny Kimbro and Imani Carothers did in 1A and 2A carrying their teams to top five team finishes. Brown did the same scoring 35 of her team’s 37 points. She ran a personal best 13.89 to win the 100 Hurdles and jumped a personal best 42-1 ¾ (wind-aided) to win the Triple Jump. Brown also finished second in the Long Jump and third in the Triple Jump. The only other athlete that we considered in this category was Kayla Hylton (Lincoln-Way East HS, Frankfort). After missing her junior year of competition after transferring from Lincoln-Way North to Lincoln-Way East, Hylton was one of the reasons why her school won their fourth straight 3A state championship. Hylton was runner up in both the 100 and 200 but anchored their 400 and 800 relays to state championships. We are proud to congratulate LaJarvia Brown of Alton High School as the 2016 DyeStat Illinois 3A Girls Athlete of the Year. More news |
