Congratulations are in order for Katelynne Hart, a junior at Glenbard West in Glen Ellyn as the 2018 ILXCTF.com Illinois Girls Runner of the Year. This is the second year in a row that Hart has received this honor.

Hart had a perfect regular season in Illinois High School running culminating with her third straight 3A State title at Detweiller Park. She has now won seven state individual titles in both cross-country and track as well as being part of Glenbard West’s team state championship in track in 2017.

“KK” was successful in the post season winning the NXR Midwest Regional for the third straight year, finishing third at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional, finishing 16th at the Nike Cross Nationals, and finishing second at the Foot Locker National Championships.

Three other runners were considered in this category.

Alex Morris of Naperville North was seriously considered after a standout post-season. The senior finished two seconds behind Hart in finishing second in the NXR Midwest Regional and finishing 10th at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional. Morris led Naperville North to second at the Nike Cross Nationals as a team by finishing seventh individually and following that up by finishing 15th at the Foot Locker Nationals. She finished third at the 3A State Meet running the fifth fastest time ever in that meet (16:10). Morris ends her High School Cross-Country career earning three All State honors and three All-American honors.

Emma Argo of Eureka was considered after winning every race in her senior season while winning her second straight 1A state championship and leading Eureka to the 1A State team title. Argo ends her High School Cross Country career being all-state three times.

Katrina Schlenker of Batavia wowed most of the fans she raced in front of this fall culminating with a second-place finish in the 3A State race with the fourth fastest Girls state meet time ever (16:07). The freshman won six of eight races she entered this fall. She finished second at the Naperville Twilight Invitational and the IHSA 3A State Meet both finishing behind Hart.
