The indoor track season kicked into high gear this past weekend for Illinois athletes. The performance that blew me away was the 3200 Meter Run race that Katelynne Hart gave us on Saturday in Michigan.

There were some great performances this weekend. We will look at some of them below. Remember, we have a long way to go in this 2019. This is only February. We still have four months to May and the IHSA State Track & Field Championships.

ILLINOIS WEEKEND RESULTS

RESULTS

Marcellus Moore of Plainfield North has stepped onto the national spotlight in a big way. Another chapter of his journey through his junior season happened Saturday at the University of Kentucky’s Nutter Fieldhouse and their 291-meter oversized track. Moore opened up with the third fastest prelim time in the 60 Meter Dash (6.80) behind Lance Lang of McCluer North MO (6.72) and Langston Jackson of Henry Clay KY (6.75). Moore ran his best race in the finals finishing second (6.65) behind Lang (6.62) who ran the fastest time this season nationally. Moore’s time was US #3.

Moore best race came in the 200 Meter Dash where he ran a personal best 21.09 for the race win and the best time this season in the nation.

Neuqua Valley’s Donovan Turner has not worked much on technique over the hurdles so far this season. The top returnee from last year’s state meet did quite well in the 60 Meter Hurdles Finals as he ran 8.07 for an Illinois leading time and a fifth-place finish. Koren Leonard of Oak Park-River Forest ran 8.10 to finish eighth in the finals. Leonard’s teammate JT Lowder also ran in the event but did not finish in his preliminary heat.
