Most of the focus on this weekend came from the thrilling finishes of the races at Distance Night in Palatine Saturday Night. We can’t forget about Katelynne Hart running a nation’s best time in winning the 1600 Meter Run at the Sue Pariseau Invitational earlier in the day. The Bob Cohoon Invitational at Downers Grove South was run in frigid conditions Friday evening, but was completed in under three hours. There were also some good sprint and hurdle times. The finishes of the distance races, though the times were not as fast as usual, provided excitement for the fans that braved the weather elements.

The winds played a big factor in some of the meets this weekend. It does look like winter’s death grip in not allowing warmer weather could be at its end. Now the excitement can begin as we close in on the state series meets and then the action down in Charleston.

Here are some of the highlights from this past weekend.

The distance runners did not seem to mind the winds as some good times were recorded at Red Grange Field. Eight runners in the three sections of the 3200 Meter Run. Crete-Monee’s Victor Cameron equaled his state best time in the 110 High Hurdles by running 14.01 (1.8 m/s) for the win. Six runners were under 15-seconds in the race led by Dixon’s Brayden Forrest finishing second (14.39, IL #4) and Robert Williams of Springfield placing third (14.41, IL #5).

Deonte Mcgoy of Alton took home the top honors when he ran 10.74 (1.2 m/s) for the win as five runners ran 11-seconds or faster. Jermarrion Stewart of Collinsville ran 10.82 to finish second.
