Depth puts Batavia on top of the 2019 rankings
By Michael Newman
It was Crete-Monee and Homewood-Flossmoor that everyone had their eyes on in the sprint relays at the IHSA State Track & Field Championships. The ILXCTF.com Relay Rankings places an equal importance on all four relays on the state meet schedule. Batavia had all four relays ranked among the top 20 schools in Illinois this season. It also put them on top of the 2019 Overall rankings with 159.5 points. Their 3200 Meter Relay was the highest ranked relay for the Bulldogs as they were positioned third in that event. Crete-Monee and Homewood-Flossmoor scored 145 points to tie for second overall. 2A State Champions East Louis-Senior scored 138.5 points to finish fourth ahead of Bloom Township who finished fifth (136 points). The winning point total by Batavia is the second lowest since the inception of the rankings in 2013 (Cahokia – 154 points, 2014). The five team DuPage Valley Conference had three of their schools finish in the top 20. The DuKane Conference and the Southland Athletic Conference both had two schools finish among the top six. Lane Tech became the first Chicago Public League School to finish among the top 10 as they finished ninth overall. East St. Louis-Senior and Rich Central (in Class 2A) were the only non-3A schools to finish in the top 20 in the overall rankings. The ILXCTF.com (formally the DyeStat Illinois) Relay Rankings are based off the DyeStat TFX Leaderboards on Athletic.net (as of June 1, 2019) for the four relays that are contested at the IHSA State Track & Field Meet. In the All Class, 3A, 2A, and 1A categories, the top 50 quartets are ranked with 50 points given to the fastest school down to 1 point for the 50th fastest.

2019 1A Boys This was supposed to be a “rebuilding” year for Illini West after losing all-state runners Jacob Bryan and Connor Artman to graduation. All they did was rebuild. Illini West’s 400 Meter Relay was their only relay ranked among the 1A top 10. Their other three relays were among the top 20 1A schools. That was enough to give them the 1A title with 151 points. St. Joseph-Ogden, who finished 14th in the 2018 1A rankings, was only three points back finishing in second (148 points). Clifton Central (143 points), Rushville-Industry (137 points), and Pleasant Plains (136 points) were the other teams in the top five. Pleasant Plains was the only repeat finisher form 2018 in the top five. 1A Standings
