2021 IHSA Class 1A Girls Sectional Highlights

Here is a look at each of the 1A Girls Sectional Meets that took place from June 2 to June 4.

 

 

1A Belleville (Althoff Catholic) Sectional – June 2

 

Nashville edged host Belleville Althoff 145-134 to win the Sectional team championship. Althoff may be the team to watch qualifying 10 (8 Individuals, 2 Relays) to this Thursday’s state meet.

 

It started with Nariah Parks and the four events that she qualified in. Parks, the defending 1A champion in the 400 Meter Dash, ran a season’s best of 57.89 to win that event. She ran 25.68 to win the 200 Meter Dash ahead of teammate Caitlin Conrad (26.37). Parks finished second in the 100 Meter Dash (12.43) just behind freshman teammate winner of the event Alaina Lester (12.37). Lester and Parks were also a part of the team’s win in the 4x400m Relay (4:17.20). Lester jumped 17’ 2” to win the Long Jump.

 

Allyson Ellis of Dupo ran 17.73 to win the 100 Meter Hurdles. Lydia Luechtefeld of Okawville won the 300 Meter Hurdles (49.94). Ellis ran 50.36 to finish second.

 

Eris Nelson of Althoff Catholic ran 12:14.04 to win the 3200 Meter Run. The sophomore came back to run 5:24.87 to win the 1600 Meter Run with Father McGivney’s Kaitlyn Hatley finishing second. Hatley earlier in the meet ran 2:27.46 to win the 800 Meter Run ahead of Nelson (2:29.28).

 

Nashville won three relay events running 50.80 to win the 4x100m Relay, running 1:48.68 to win the 4x200m Relay, and running 10:52.70 to win the 4x800m Relay.

 

Field events winners included Anaya Davis of Althoff Catholic in the Shot Put (36’ 5.5”), Alyssa Cole of Nashville in the Discus (102’ 2”), Nashville’s Emma Van Hise winning the High Jump (4’ 11.75”) and teammate Sophie Schubert winning the Pole Vault (6’ 11.75”). Carrie Wilson of Madison jumped 30’ 6.25 to win the Triple Jump.

 

1A Tuscola Sectional – June 4

 

Shelbyville claimed the sectional team championship with 83 points with Tuscola finishing second (63 points). Sullivan, Okaw Valley, and Pana all scored 58 points to tie for third.

 

Alyssa Williams will be in the spotlight in next week’s 1A State Finals. She had a great meet on Friday winning three individual events. Williams jumped a personal best of 18’3.75 to win the Long Jump winning by more than a foot ahead of Maroa-Forsyth’s Leah Adalf (16’ 8”). Williams was just as spectacular on the track running a personal best of 12.14 to win the 100 Meter Dash. Brianna Sarver of Pana (12.71) and Alexa Miller of Arthur-Lovington (12.99) finished second and third. Williams ran 25.78 to win by more than second ahead of Sarver (26.96) in the 200 Meter Dash.

 

Trinity Wade of Shelbyville jumped a personal best of 33’ 8.75” to win the Triple Jump. She came back to run a personal best of 49.87 to win the 300 Meter Hurdles finishing ahead of Arcola’s Kelsey Moore (50.38).

 

Macie Fleshner of Okaw Valley won the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.81) by just two hundredth of a second ahead of Chloe Moyer of Macon Meridian. Brooke Oakley of Warrensburg-Latham ran a personal best of 1:01.20 in winning the 400 Meter Dash.

 

Heidi Heldt of Argenta-Oreana was a double winner in this meet. The junior ran 2:25.22 to win the 800 Meter Run with Ellie Nohren of Shelbyville finishing second (2:26.22). Heldt came back to run 5:41.23 to win the 1600 Meter Run by two seconds ahead of Haylee Mayes of Macon Meridian (5:43.59). Brooke Schutt of Shelbyville ran 13:12.18 to win the 3200 Meter Run.

 

Nohren was on Shelbyville’s quartet that ran 11:19.55 to win the 4x800m Relay. Maroa-Forsyth ran 51.25 to win the 4x100m Relay and 1:48.36 to win the 4x200m Relay. Tuscola, with Williams part of their quartet, finished second (1:50.21) in that event to qualify for state. Warrensburg-Latham ran 4:19.64 to win the 4x400m Relay.

 

Alexis Evrley of Pana achieved a personal best of 39’ 4” to win the Shot Put. Other field event winners included Madison Burwell of Villa Grove in the Discus (113’ 10”), Zoe Walton of Sullivan in the High Jump (5’ 1.75”), and Livia Binder of Maroa-Forsyth clearing 11’ 0” in the Pole Vault.

 

1A St. Joseph-Ogden Sectional – June 2

 

St. Joseph-Ogden edged Salt Fork 139-134 to win the Sectional team factors in the 1A State Finals. St. Joseph-Ogden qualified 12 to state (8 individuals, 4 relays). Salt Fork advanced 13 all of which were in individual events.

 

Atleigh Hamilton will lead St. Joseph-Ogden in the state meet. The senior won three individual events in this meet. Hamilton ran 12.97 to win the 100 Meter Dash with Bre Crose of Hoopeston Area just seven hundredth of a second behind (13.04). Hamilton ran a personal best of 58.83 to win the 400 Meter Dash. She ended her day on the track by running 26.50 to win the 200 Meter Dash with Gracie Jessup of Salt Fork running 26.67 to finish second. Jessup earlier in the meet jumped 17’ 4.25” to win the Long Jump as Hamilton jumped 17’ 2.75” to finish second.

 

Jessup swept the hurdle events running 15.23 to win the 100 Meter Hurdles by more than a second. Jessup came back to run 47.68 to win the 300 Meter Hurdles.

 

St. Joseph-Ogden won all four relays in this sectional. The Lady Spartans ran 10:27.70 to win the 4x800m Relay ahead of Urbana University by over 20 seconds. St. Joseph-Ogden held on to run 52.13 to win the 4x100m Relay with Urbana University (52.32) and Westville (52.55) second and third. Their third win came when they ran 1:51.47 to win the 4x200m Relay. St. Joseph-Ogden ended the meet with a close win in the 4x400m Relay. Their winning time of 4:15.17 finished just ahead of Urbana University (4:16.79).

 

Katie Ahmari will be one of the 1A favorites next week in the distance events. The sophomore ran 11:36.59 to win the 3200 Meter Run and then 5:25.92 to win the 1600 Meter Run. Macie Russell of Salt Fork was the other distance event winner running 2:30.16 in the 800 Meter Run.

 

Olivia Birge of Salt Fork was a double winner in the Shot Put (36’ 6.5”) and the Discus (124’ 6”). Other field event winners include Abby Behrens of St. Joseph-Ogden in the High Jump (4’ 11.75”), Brynlee Keeran of Salt Fork in the Pole Vault (10’ 11.5”) and the Triple Jump (34’ 0.75”).

 

1A Beardstown Sectional – June 3

 

Pleasant Plains scored 132 points to win the sectional team title with Pittsfield scoring 94 points to finish second. Pleasant Plains qualified 11 (8 Individuals, 3 Relays) to the 1A State Finals. Teagan Morley led Pleasant Plains with three individual wins. Morley cleared a personal best of 10’ 0.50” to win the Pole Vault. The sophomore then ran 13.01 to win the 100 Meter Dash. Her third win came in the 400 Meter Dash with a personal best of 1:01.47.

 

Olivia Campbell of Pittsfield had a big meet in the ring. The junior had a personal best of 40’ 4.25” to win the Shot Put. Liberty’s Julia Hahn also achieved a personal best of 39’ 9.25” to finish second in that event. Campbell came back to throw 137-6 to win the Discus by 30 feet ahead of Hahn.

 

Pittsfield’s Katie Cox picked up wins in the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.46) and the 300 Meter Hurdles (48.12). Nikkie Shaffer of Pleasant Plains finished second in both events qualifying for the state meet. Elaina Sunde ran 27.92 to win the 200 Meter Dash.

 

Pleasant Plains ran 11:07.29 to win the 4x800m Relay. Pittsfield took home wins in the 4x100m Relay (52.40) and the 4x200m Relay (1:54.12) just ahead of Winchester (1:54.36). Pittsfield won their third relay running 4:14.84 in the 4x400m Relay.

 

Kyra Carothers of Mendon Unity cleared 4-10 and won the High Jump on fewer misses. Whitney Wilson of Pleasant Plains jumped 16’ 0” in winning the Long Jump. Tania Taylor of Athens had a 30’ 8.50” personal best to win the Triple Jump.

 

Distance Event winners included Meg Simmons of Astoria winning the 3200 Meter Run (13:30.85) and the 1600 Meter Run (6:09.88), and Megan Derrick of Pleasant Plains in the 800 Meter Run (2:30.15).

 

1A Bloomington (Central Catholic) Sectional – June 3

 

Bloomington Central Catholic won on their home track scoring 137 points. Downs Tri-Valley was the closest as they scored 109 points in finishing second.

 

Megan Becker was one of three multiple event winners for Bloomington Central Catholic. Becker ran 12.70 to win the 100 Meter Dash ahead of Tri-Valley’s Taylor Jones (12.90). Becker’s second win came when she ran a personal best of 58.15 to win the 400 Meter Dash. Becker’s third win came when she ran 26.18 for the 200 Meter Dash win as Jones ran 27.51 to finish second.

 

BCC’s Natalia Garcia cleared 5’ 4” to win the High Jump and then came back to run 16.19 to win the 100 Meter Hurdles. Her teammate Ella Larson jumped a season’s best of 15’ 8.25” to win the Long Jump and then jumped 33’ 5.5” to win the Triple Jump.

 

Windsor Roberts of Tri-Valley will be the favorite in next week’s Pole Vault at state. She tuned up by clearing 12’ 5.25” to win in this sectional meet.

 

Natalie Garneau of Tri-Valley ran 12:21.22 to win the 3200 Meter Run. Anna Zlatic of Bloomington Central Catholic ran 2:28.56 in winning the 800 Meter Run. Bloomington Central Catholic went 1-2 in the 1600 Meter Run as Nora Brady had a 5:48.37 ahead of Zlatic (5:48.64) for the win.

 

Bloomington Central Catholic, with Brady and Zlatic in their lineup, ran 10:38.19 to win the 4x800m Relay. Tri Valley, with Roberts anchoring, won both the 4x100m Relay (52.34) and the 4x200m Relay (1:52.56). Bloomington Central Catholic captured the win in the 4x400m Relay (4:20.76) ahead of Tri-Valley (4:23.53).

 

Cassidy Clark of Mt. Pulaski was a double winner in the Shot Put (38’ 2.75”) and the Discus (131’ 0”). Both performances were personal bests. Meghan Scott of Dwight ran a personal best of 51.39 to win the 300 Meter Hurdles.

 

1A Chicago (Hope Academy) Sectional – June 3

 

IC Catholic Prep scored 103 points to win this sectional meet finishing ahead of Westmont (78.5 points) and Timothy Christian (71 points). The Knights qualified 9 (8 Individuals, 1 Relay) to next week’s 1A State Finals.

 

Tyrah Taylor of Hope Academy will be one of the athletes to watch in the sprints next week. Taylor ran 12.46 to win the 100 Meter Dash and 26.32 to win the 200 Meter Dash.

 

IC Catholic Prep’s Carly Manchester ruled the distance events winning all three. Manchester ran 11:56.59 to win the 3200 Meter Run ahead of Julia Wolke of Christian Liberty Academy (12:03.03) and Lizzy Szynal of Westmont (12:10.09). Manchester had little time to recover before the 800 Meter Run. Manchester had the edge at the end winning in 2:27.84 just 17 hundredths of a second ahead of Sofia Brown of FW Parker (2:28.01). Gabi Walker of DePaul College Prep finished third (2:28.48).

 

Manchester completed the triple by running 5:29.85 to win the 1600 Meter Run with Wolke running 5:32.97 to finish second.

 

Celeste Kone of Westmont cleared 4’ 10.25” to win the High Jump. Kone went to the track to run 16.89 to win the 100 Meter Hurdles. Ella Capozzi of North Shore Country Day ran 51.13 to win the 300 Meter Hurdles. Cate McDaniels of Westmont won the 400 Meter Dash in 1:02.66 just four hundredths of a second ahead of IC Catholic Prep’s Frankie Chaidez (1:02.70).

 

Relay highlights include Timothy Christian running 10:39.76 to win the 4x800m Relay ahead of DePaul Catholic Prep. Hope Academy, with Taylor anchoring, ran 52.45 to win the 4x00m Relay as IC Catholic Prep ran 52.71 to finish second. Taylor and Hope Academy ran 1:56.19 to win the 4x200m Relay. Timothy Christian won their second relay running 4:24.64 to win the 4x400m Relay ahead of Westmont (4:27.69).

 

Field event winners include Alia Johnson of IC Catholic Prep in the Long Jump (15’ 7”), Hannah Schuringa of Timothy Christian in the Triple Jump (33’ 4”), Mikayla Hickey of Westmont in the Pole Vault (7’ 11.25”), Amanda Gladney of Chicago Christian in the Shot Put (31’ 0.75”), and Rachel Turner of Walther Christian in the Discus (89’ 1”).

 

1A Knoxville Sectional – June 3

 

It was close for the sectional team championship as the top four teams were separated by only four points. Farmington won the team title 66-64 ahead of Knoxville. Kewanee Wethersfield and Stark County scored 62 points to tie for third.

 

Lindsey Johnston of Stark County had a big meet qualifying for state in four events. Johnston cleared 5’ 3.75” to win the High Jump. The sophomore picked up her second win when she ran 59.85 to win the 400 Meter Dash. Johnston’s third win was when she ran 26.69 to win the 200 Meter Dash. Her teammate Lena Becker also picked up multiple event wins running 15.84 to win the 100 Meter Hurdles and 50.44 to win the 300 Meter Hurdles. It was a photo finish in the 100 Meter Dash as Grace Dearing of Princeville and Miranda Hursey of Farmington both crossed the line in a 13.15 time. Dearing was awarded the win after reviewing the photo.

 

Maleigha Hustn of Bushnell Prairie City is a runner to watch for next week after winning two distance events last Thursday. Huston ran the fastest 1A sectional time in the 800 Meter Run (2:17.91) for the win with Wethersfield’s Kennady Anderson running 2:25.11 to finish second. The two runners faced off again in the 1600 Meter Run. Huston again had the advantage for the win (5:22.77) again ahead of Anderson (5:27.41). Miranda Reed of Cambridge ran a personal best 12:07.63 to win the 3200 Meter Run with Eden Mueller of Mercer County finishing second (12:17.22).

 

Relay highlights include Knoxville winning all four relays in this meet. They started by winning by almost a minute in the 4x800m Relay running 10:25.04. Their team in the 4x100m Relay ran 52.60 for the win with Wethersfield finishing second (53.08). Win #3 came when Knoxville ran 1:52.93 to win the 4x200m Relay. They completed the sweep with a time of 4:17.53 for the win ahead of Illini West (4:19.39).

 

Field event winners included Josie Bryan of Illini West winning the Long Jump (15’ 3”), Sadie Lenz of Biggsville West Central in the Triple Jump (33’ 2”), Miranda Hursey of Farmington in the Pole Vault (9’ 11.75”), Cassidy Miller of Wethersfield in the Shot Put (36’ 6.25”), and Anna Webel in the Discus (100’ 4”).

 

1A Seneca Sectional – June 3

 

Seneca won their own Sectional with 163 points. Newark the closest team finishing second with 84 points. The Irish advanced 13 (9 Individuals, 4 Relays) to the 1A State Meet.

 

Maddie Boley of Beecher threw 126’ 9” to win the Discus and then came back to win the Shot Put with a 38’ 1.75 meet best. Brooklyn Giertz of Seneca cleared a personal best of 5’ 3.5” to win the High Jump. Kiara Wesseh of Newark won the 100 Meter Hurdles (15.90) just two hundredth of a second ahead of Giertz (15.92). Giertz came back in the 300 Meter Hurdles running a personal best of 48.02 for the win.

 

Maria Lambert of Aurora Christian won the 100 Meter Dash (12.98) by just a tenth of a second ahead of Wilmington’s Kate McCann (12.98). McCann in the field events jumped 17’ 11.25” to win the Long Jump. Lambert won the 200 Meter Dash (26.43) this time by just one hundredth of a second ahead of Halle Nugent of Bishop McNamara. Mya Gardner of Aurora Christian ran 1:03.45 to win the 400 Meter Dash.

 

Jolee Larson of Indian Creek ran 12:15.06 to win the 3200 Meter Run. Evita Martinez of Bishop McNamara ran 2:24.94 in winning the 800 Meter Run. Chloe Proffitt of Wilmington ran 5:36.17 to win the 1600 Meter Run. Amber Vroman of Seneca finished second in the 800 Meter Run and 1600 Meter Run qualifying in both events for the state meet.

 

Seneca captured wins in all four relays. The Irish ran 10:54.11 to win the 4x800m Relay, 50.90 to win the 4x100m Relay, 1:50.42 to win the 4x200m Relay, and 4:25.15 to win the 4x400m Relay. Chelsea Hasulube jumped 32’ 11.75” to win the Triple Jump.

 

1A Taylor Ridge (Rockridge) Sectional – June 3

 

Sherrard edged Erie 81-75 for the sectional team title. Bureau Valley scored 58 points to edge Amboy (56 points) for third.

 

Jordan Gallentine of Morrison had a big meet winning three individual events. The senior ran 12.90 in winning the 100 Meter Dash. She ran a personal best of 59.45 to win the 400 Meter Dash finishing ahead of Amboy’s Lauren Althaus (1:00.90). Gallentine only won by two hundredth of a second ahead of Althaus running 27.08 in the 200 Meter Dash.

 

Maddie Kindelsperger of Sherrard picked up two wins in the distance events. She should be a factor at EIU next week. The senior ran 12:07.72 to win the 3200 Meter Run by more than a minute. Kindelsperger came back to run 5:36.76 to win the 1600 Meter Run with Olivia Thomsen of Orion finishing second (5:49.73). Thomsen earlier in the meet ran 2:26.80 to win the 800 Meter Run by 15 hundredth of a second ahead of Erie’s Riley Packer.

 

Amboy freshman Elly Jones won both the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.03) and the 300 Meter Hurdles (48.96).

 

Orion ran 10:46.28 to win the 4x800m Relay. Sherrard won the short sprint relays running 51.70 to win the 4x100m Relay and 1:50.47 to win the 4x20m Relay. Erie ran 4:19.63 to win the 4x400m Relay.

 

Field event winners included Kamryn Kolb of Bureau Valley in the Long Jump (16’ 8.5”), Jade Aber of Bureau Valley in the Triple Jump (35’ 9.5”), Teghan Tillman of Peru St. Bede in the High Jump (4’ 11.75”), Hayley Wuebben of Erie in the Pole Vault (9’ 0.25”), Karlie Krogman of Milledgeville in the Shot Put (38’ 3”), and Charlotte Frere of Sherrard with a personal best in the Discus (134-10).

 

1A Tremont Sectional – June 3

 

El Paso-Gridley dominated the team competition in this sectional scoring 127 points for the meet title. They advance 11 (8 Individuals, 3 Relays) to the 1A State Finals. Tremont (64 points) and Henry-Senachwine (60 points) finished second and third.

 

Cambria Geyer of Tremont had a great day on her home track. She first helped her team finish second (52.58) in the 4x100m Relay behind race winner El Paso-Gridley (52.34). Geyer’s first individual rave was a personal best and a win in the 100 Meter Hurdles (15.38). Her race in the 400 Meter Dash was her closest as she won by one hundredth of a second ahead of Nakeita Kessling of Henry-Senachwine. Geyer’s winning time was 1:00.03. Her final race was also a win in 26.65 in the 200 Meter Dash. Jaela Pierson of Peoria Heights ran 12.79 to win the 100 Meter Dash. Tristyn Grube of El Paso-Gridley finished second in both the 100 and 200 qualifying for state in both events. Grube’s teammate Tori Witzig ran 49.63 to win the 300 Meter Hurdles. Kessling jumped 17’1” to win the Long Jump.

 

Audrey Brinkman of Illini Bluffs was a double winner in the Shot Put (34’ 4.5”) and the Discus (122’ 5”). Other field event winners include Savannah Robinson of Delavan in the Triple Jump (31’ 2”), Sophia Sumer of Tremont in the Pole Vault (11’ 0”), and Belle Kelly of Illini Central in the High Jump (4’ 11.75”).

 

Deer Creek-Mackinaw ran 11:37.09 to win the 4x800m Relay. El Paso-Gridley ran 52.34 to edge Tremont (52.58) to win the 4x100m Relay. Tremont had the advantage when they ran 1:56.68 to win the 4x200m Relay with El Paso-Gridley running 1:57.30 to finish second. Henry-Senachwine won the 4x400m Relay (4:25.72) with Lowpoint-Washburn finishing second (4:32.57).

 

Distance event winners include Kalei McDaniel of Havana in the 3200 Meter Run (12:55.52), Krista Koke of Havana in the 800 Meter Run (2:26.87), and Jenna Kent of El Paso-Gridley in the 1600 Meter Run (5:55.45).

 

1A Winnebago Sectional – June 3

 

Winnebago’s strength in the distance events will help them contend for the Class 1A State Championship next Thursday. Winnebago won their own sectional with 163 points qualifying 15 (12 Individuals, 3 Relays) to next week’s state meet.

 

Bago won all three distance events along with two relays in this meet. The Indians ran 10:16.54 to win the 4x800m Relay finishing 14 seconds ahead of Harvest Christian Academy (10:30.05). Sophia Martino ran 12:23.73 to win the 3200 Meter Run finishing ahead of Kelly Giardina of Rockford Christian (12:28.88). Grace Erb came back from the winning relay team to run 2:22.89 to win the 800 Meter Run. Natalia Martino ran 5:15.21 to win the 1600 Meter Run with teammate Kaylee Woolery running 5:30.01 to finish second. Winnebago also won the 4x400m Relay (4:09.19) ahead of Rockford Christian (4:12.51).

 

Rockford Christian had a big day in the short relays running Class 1A Sectional bests in two of the relays. The Royal Lions ran 50.44 to win the 4x100m Relay by almost a second ahead of Byron. Rockford Christian came back to run 1:47.51 to win the 4x200m Relay finishing ahead of Winnebago (1:48.63).

 

Winnebago’s Hayley Starkey captured wins in the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.90) and the 300 Meter Hurdles (50.50). Dakota’s Cali Minkle won in both the 400 Meter Dash (1:00.41) and the 200 Meter Dash (26.57). She also jumped 18’ 2.5” to win the Long Jump and then jumped 34’ 2.5” to win the Triple Jump.  Paige Kirkham of Rockford Christian ran 12.82 for a personal best and the win in the 100 Meter Dash.

 

Other field event winners include Ella Maher of Winnebago in the Pole Vault (10’ 5.5”), Renee Rittmeyer of Winnebago clearing 5’ 1.75” to win the High Jump, Brenna Noon of Oregon in the Shot Put (40’ 9”), and Jenae Bothe of Oregon with a 118’ 10” throw to win the Discus.

 

1A DuQuoin Sectional – June 2

 

DuQuoin will look for another team state championship on Thursday after winning their own sectional with 175 points. Hamilton County (62 points) and Chester (60 points) were the closest to the Indians. Duquoin advanced 15 (11 Individuals, 4 Relays) to Charleston.

 

DuQuoin dominated this meet winning 10 of the 18 scored events including all four relays. They ran 10:32.29 to win the 4x800m Relay and 54.73 to win the 4x100m Relay ahead of second-place Pinckneyville (55.37). The margin was closer for DuQuoin in the 4x200m Relay as they ran 1:54.81 to win with Pinckneyville at 1:54.02. DuQuoin ran 4:14.90 to win the 4x400m Relay by 24 seconds.

 

Olivia Phillips of DuQuoin will be one of the favorites at EIU in the 800 Meter Run. The junior ran 2:19.31 for the win five seconds ahead of teammate Jacqueline Crain (2:24.96). Maddie Karcher of Hamilton County was a double winner in the 3200 Meter Run (12:51.91) and the 1600 Meter Run (5:50.54).

 

White County’s Jessica Smith won the 100 Meter Dash (13.45) and the 200 Meter Dash (28.00) by just one hundredth of a second ahead of Emersyn Robbins of Fairfield. DuQuoin’s Grace Alongi ran 1:00.28 to win the 400 Meter Dash after jumping 32’ 11” to win the Triple Jump. Robbins jumped 16’ 3” in winning the Long Jump.

 

DuQuoin’s Jalynn Wood cleared 8’ 7.25” to win the Pole Vault and ran 16.62 to win the 100 Meter Hurdles just ahead of Maci Tosh of Goreville (16.63). Tosh came back to run 50.28 to win the 300 Meter Hurdles with Wood running 51.58 to finish second.

 

Sparta’s Kayla Braun won both the Discus (103’ 5”) and then the Shot Put with a personal best of 38’ 1.5”.

 

1A Newton Sectional – June 2

 

Newton won the team championship on their home track with 93 points. Red Hill (80 points) and Robinson (72.5 points) finished second and third.

 

Kaitlyn Vahling of Teutopolis ran 12.89 to win the 100 Meter Dash and 26.37 to win the 200 Meter Dash by a tenth of a second ahead of Altamont’s Grace Nelson (26.47). Whitney Zumbahlen of Newton ran 1:00.82 to win the 400 Meter Dash ahead of teammate Laney Hemrich (1:01.38). Zumbahlen also jumped 16’ 2.5” to win the Long Jump.

 

Nelson also won the 100 Meter Hurdles (15.12) finishing ahead of Red Hill’s Katie Moore (15.31). That order changed in the 300 Meter Hurdles with Moore winning (44.97) ahead of Nelson (45.16).

 

Marshall won all four distance events. Brooklyn Bender ran 11:43.89 to win the 3200 Meter Run ahead of teammate Cailin Morris (12:45.45). The order was the same in the 1600 Meter Run as Bender won (5:39.23) ahead of Morris (5:55.34). Isabel Arthur ran 2:28.08 to win the 800 Meter Run. All three runners, along with Ashley Sanders, were part of Marshall’s team that won the 4x800m Relay (10:13.11) ahead of Casey-Westfield (10:18.47) and Robinson (10:22.72).

 

Other relay winners included Flora running 53.59 to win the 4x100m Relay, Robinson winning the 4x200m Relay (1:53.72), and Newton running 4:16.42 to win the 4x400m Relay.

 

Alexis Hetzer of Newton achieved a personal best of 32’ 11.75 to win the Triple Jump. Other field event winners included Isabelle Hemmen of Teutopolis in the Pole Vault (11’ 0”), Gracee Smithenry of Newton in the High Jump (4’ 11.75”), Reilly Ward of Vandalia in the Shot Put (36’ 0”), and Sydney Kibler of St. Anthony throwing 106’ 5” to win the Discus.

 

1A Virden (North Mac) Sectional – June 2

 

New Berlin scored 118.5 points to win the sectional team title ahead of Litchfield (73 points) and Pawnee (63 points). Payton Schurman of New Berlin was a double winner in the Long Jump (15’ 2.25”) and the Triple Jump (30’ 11.25”). Riverton’s Jolie Foreman also won two events with a 118’ 5” seasonal best throw in the Discus and 35’ 2.75” mark to win the Shot Put. Carson Lemon of Litchfield cleared 8’ 6’ to win the Pole Vault. Kylie Periman of New Berlin cleared a personal best of 5’ 5.75 to win the High Jump.

 

Kamryn Flesch of Pawnee ran 2:28.44 to win the 800 Meter Run. Flesch came back to win the 200 Meter Dash (27.23).

 

Other distance event winners included Erica Gill of Gillespie running 12:47.37 to win the 3200 Meter Run and Caroline Peters of New Berlin running 6:09.47 to win the 1600 Meter Run.

 

New Berlin’s Alonda Shelton ran 13.24 to win the 100 Meter Dash. Other sprint / hurdle event winners included Kendall Stewart of Litchfield winning the 400 Meter Dash (1:01.71), Aleese Trimmingham of Auburn in the 100 Meter Hurdles (17.10), and Emma Terwische of Jacksonville Routt in the 300 Meter Hurdles.

 

Relay team winners included Carlinville in the 4x800m Relay (11:57.80), New Berlin in the 4x100m Relay (51.83) and the 4x200m Relay (1:51.83), and Litchfield in the 4x400m Relay (4:30.76).
