Congratulations to Ava Parekh of Latin School in Chicago as the 2021 ILXCTF.com Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year. It was not that hard of a decision to select this senior to this honor after the season that she had this fall. Parekh went undefeated against Illinois runners the past couple of months which included winning races at the Richard Spring Invitational in September, the Naperville Twilight Invitational in October, and then running 16:23 to record the fastest time of the day in winning the IHSA Class 2A State Championship at Detweiller Park on November 6. Parekh, who will head to Stanford University next fall, finished second in Minnesota at the Roy Griak Invitational at the end of September. Her post season included a 16:46 5k time to finish ninth at the Garmin RunningLane Cross Country Championships on December 4. Parekh also qualified for the Eastbay Nationals by finishing fifth in the Midwest Regional race. She finished 18th in the Eastbay National Finals on December 11. Parekh was all-state three times for Cross Country including her win this November. There was no IHSA State Meet in 2020. Parekh did win the alternative race at the ShaZam Club Championships. Parekh heads into the 2022 track season with eight all-state medals. Josephine Welin of Oak Park-River Forest, Aly Negovetich of Grant Community, and Brooke Johnston of Lake Zurich were also considered. More news |
