Illinois Track & Field HS Weekend Highlights - March 23, 2025

The indoor season ended over the weekend for some schools with an array of conference meets throughout the state. There were several invitationals that will prepare some schools for the outdoor season.

 

Here are highlights of some of the meets that took place over the weekend.

 

West Suburban Conference Silver Boys @ Proviso West (3/21) – Defending Class 3A State Champion Oak Park-River Forest displayed once again they were the kings of the WSC-Silver Friday evening. The Huskies repeated their indoor title scoring 130 points finishing ahead of Downers Grove North (108 points), Glenbard West (92 points), and York (60 points). The return of state champion Caleb Schulz gave Oak Park a huge push. This was his first race of the season after spending most of the winter on the ice rink. Schulz shocked the crowd running 6.47 in the first section of the 55 Meter Dash (IL #4 tie). He would have to wait until the third and final section to see if he would come away with the win. Dominic Tresslar (Hinsdale Central) ran 6.48 (IL #7) in winning the third section and finishing second overall. Mason Ellens (Glenbard West) and Bruno Massel (York) ran 6.51 finishing third and fourth. Ellens came back to run 22.55 in winning the 200 Meter Dash just ahead of Tresslar (22.62). Schulz ran in the opening section and won that race (22.72) finishing third overall. Schulz was in the team’s quartet that won the 4x200 Meter Relay (1:33.29) for the overall title. Glenbard West ran in the final section of the event and ran 1:33.31 finishing second overall.

 

Part of Oak Park-River Forest’s success was in the field events where they won four of the five events. The Huskies went 1-2 in the Shot Put with Jonathan Sibley-Diggs (54-5) finishing ahead of teammate Dylan Pierce (48-1). Malik Griffee and Machi Nelson (Proviso West) cleared 6-6 (IL #6 tie) in the High Jump with Nelson winning on fewer misses. Lukas Brauc after his All-American performance last week cleared 14-6 to win the Pole Vault. Kwabena Osei-Yeboah survived in the Long Jump. He fouled on three of his first for attempts. His fifth-round attempt of 23-1.5. Nelson jumped 21-7 to finish second. Riley Jackson gave Oak Park their fourth field event win in the Triple Jump (42-9.25). Oak Park overall scored 62 of their 130 points in those five events.

 

Class 3A State Cross-Country Champions Downers Grove North were in charge of the distance events winning four of the five races. The one exception came in the 3200 Meter Run. Michael Gamboa (Hinsdale Central) pulled away from the field just after 1600 meters in the race. Gamboa achieved a huge personal best running 9:26.13 for the win ahead of Brady Travers (Downers Grove North) who ran 9:28.97, Ben Wuggazer (Lyons Township} at 9:30.05), Jack Loftus (Downers Grove North) at 9:34.20, and John O’Halloran (Lyons Township) at 9:36.82. The top five finishers all achieved indoor personal bests.

 

Philip Cupial (Downers Grove North) was part of three wins for his team. Cupial ran a casual 2:02.4 anchor split pulling away with a 29 second final lap to help his team win the 4x800 Meter Relay (8:10.40) to finish ahead of York (8:11.30) and Lyons Township (8:14.27). Cupial took the lead in the opening lap of the 600 Meter Run running 1:22.87 (IL #4) for the win in that race. Cupial ran a 51.1 anchor split to lead North to the win (3:29.69) finishing ahead of York (3:31.77). Grant Schorder (Downers Grove North) stormed away to win the 800 Meter Run (1:56.32) by four seconds ahead of Finn Kelly (Oak Park-River Forest. Downers Grove North finished 1-2 in the 1600 Meter Run with Will Surratt (4:22.38) ahead of John Courtney (4:23.95).

 

The only individual double winner in this meet came from York’s Luke De Simone in both hurdle races. De Simone ran 7.68 to win the Highs ahead of Glenbard West’s Ben Schoettle (7.88). The order was the same in the Lows as De Simone ran 7.36 to win ahead of Schoettle (7.81). Praxton Robinson (Proviso West) ran 51.13 to win the 400 Meter Dash just ahead of Oak Park’s Brian Jackson (51.40).

 

West Suburban Conference Silver Girls @ York (3/21) – Downers Grove North dominated this conference meet scoring 138 points for the title placing ahead of York (105 [points), Oak Park-River Forest (86 points) and Glenbard West (76 points). York’s Jillian Booth was one of two double event winners in this meet. Booth ran 7.12 (IL #4) to win the 55 Meter Dash ahead of teammate Norah Peiffle (7.42). Booth in the 200 Meter Dash ran 25.77 to claim the win ahead of Downers Grove North’s Alison Leach (26.27). Isabella Brauc of Oak Park-River Forest cleared 5-1.75 to win the High Jump. She went to the track where Brauc won the 400 Meter Dash (58.89) to edge York’s Morgan Navarre (58.97). Julia Brown (Oak Park-River Forest) ran 41.10 to win the 300 Meter Dash with Brauc finishing second (41.72). Brown and Brauc were part of the Huskies winning quartet in the 4x400 Meter Relay (4:06.44) placing ahead of Glenbard West (4:09.80) and Downers Grove North (4:10.13).

 

The York quartet of Karlin Janowski, Sofia Stoddard, Scarlett Moriarty, and Sofia Galiano-Sanchez ran great in the 4x800 Meter Relay running 9:27.79 (IL #8) to win the event. Glenbard West ran 9:40.64 to place second. Ella Satre (Hinsdale Central) ran 11:13.28 to win the 3200 Meter Run ahead of Downers Grove North’s Audrey Casten (11:15.28) and Janowski (11:24.07). In the Frosh/Soph 3200 Meter Run, Macy Ermitage (Downers Grove North) ran a solo 11:23.26 to win the race by 81 seconds. Lily Hodneland (Hinsdale Central) won the 800 Meter Run (2:16.67) with Glenbard West’s Mackenzie Gilbert (2:17.43) and Galiano-Sanchez (2:17.77) placing second and third. Alexa Novak (Glenbard West) ) ran 5:11.62 to win the 1600 Meter Run with Downers Grove North’s Lily Eddington (5:14.03) and Alayna Todnem (5:14.06) finishing second and third.

 

Nagel-Saylor Invitational @ North Central College (3/22) – Prospect easily won the Girls team title in this Co-Ed Meet on Saturday scoring 158.5 points. Hersey (73.5 points) and Schaumburg (70 points) finished second and third. Prospect in the Boys Meet won the 4x400 Meter Relay (3:31.87) gave them a slight lead in the team standings. The Pole Vault was the last event scored. Barrington swept the event with Hayden Dahlin clearing 14-11.75 to win the event with teammate Vince Choukas clearing 14-8 to place second. It gave the Broncos the team title with 124 points. Prospect finished second (115 points) ahead of Hersey (86.5 points).

 

Daisha Brunson (Conant) had one of the top performances in the Girls Meet winning the 55 Meter Hurdles and the 55 Meyer Dash within a span of 20 minutes. The top three times in the state kin the 55 Meter Hurdles happened in the final section as Brunson ran 8.08 to edge Amy Carhee (Schaumburg) by one hundredth of a second (8.09). Aisha Kazeem (Palatine) ran 8.22) to finish third. Brunson also had a tight race in the 55 Meter Dash. It was another lead that got her the win timed at 7.11 (IL #3). Prospect’s Anna Niebrugge (7.17, IL #7) and Nikki Niebrugge (7.25, IL #10 tie) finishing second and third. Brunson won the first section of the 200 Meter Dash (25.05, IL #6). Anna Niebrugge followed by running 24.92) to win the event with her sister Nikki finishing third overall (25.49).

 

Madeline Bialko (Hersey) lowered her personal best in winning the 3200 Meter Run (10:46.63, IL #7) by 20 seconds. Prospect swept the first two places in the 1600 Meter Run as Meg Peterson ran 5:01.95 to win the race with Ireland Wildhart (5:09.22). The two runners were part of Prospect’s quartet that ran 9:34.11 to win the 4x8009 Meter Relay with Barrington running 9:43.18 to finish second.

 

Logan Farrell (Hersey) continues to improve in the Boys Shot Put as he had a 58-7.25 put in the fourth round (IL #6) to win the event. Cater Hayes (Palatine) ran an electrifying race in the 3200 Meter Run. Hayes passed through the first 1600 in 4:45 and broke away from the rest of the field clicking off 32/33 second laps. He negative split to run 9:10.50 IL #4) in winning the event. The same type of race applied in the 1600 Meter Run as Rory Gaan (Fremd) ran 4:18.87 to win the 1600 Meter Run with Hersey’s Gabriel Gronski finishing second (4:23.07). Gaan ran a 1:58.7 anchor split to lead Fremd to the win in the 4x800 Meter Relay (8:10.37) finishing ahead of Conant (8:15.68) and Hersey (8:23.98).

 

DuPage Valley Conference Girls @ North Central College (3/20) – Neuqua Valley captured the Girls conference title with 139.5 points finishing ahead of Naperville Central (122 points) and Naperville North (84 points). Neuqua Valley clinched the win in the 200 Meter Dash when Gabi Karvelis ran 26.21 to capture the win and teammate Ava Belle finished third.  Neuqua Valley placed 1-2 in the Long Jump as Karvelis jumped 18-2.5 to claim the win ahead of Olivia Dalson (18-1.5). Karvelis came back to jump 38-4.75 to win the Triple Jump. Kennedi Reed (Naperville Central) jumped a personal best of 37-7.25 to place second. Elizabeth Hall (Neuqua Valley) took the lead with three laps to go in the 3200 Meter Run pulling away to win with a seasonal best of 11:04.82. Rianna Tandon (Naperville North) ran 11:12.22 in finishing second. It was a tight race in the 800 Meter Run as Lola Satre-Morales (Naperville Central) held off Emma Berres (Naperville North) in the final lap to run 2:14.19 (IL #3) for the win.. Berres ran 2:15.37 (IL #6) to finish second.  Less than 30 minutes later, Satre-Morales ran 59.41 to win the 400 Meter Dash with Dalson running 1:01.26 to place second. Satre-Morales anchored Naperville Central to the win in the 4x800 Meter Relay (9:53.95). Lily Baibak (Waubonsie Valley) broke open a tight five runner pack and pulled away in the final two laps to win the 1600 Meter Run. Baibak’s time of 5:06.55 was her best of the season. Berres ran 5:13.97 to place second ahead of teammate Kathryn Bohr (5:16.40).

 

DuPage Valley Conference Boys @ North Central College (3/21) – Naperville Central scored the Boys team title (145.5 points) ahead of Neuqua Valley (132 points) and Naperville North (104 points). Patrick Clune led Naperville Central with a double win in the distance events. Clune ran 1:59.15 to win the 800 Meter Run finishing ahead of teammate Lukas Probst (2:01.60). Clune won the 1600 Meter Run (4:31.39) ahead of Jesse Gudauskas (Neuqua Valley (4:35.89). Connor McGinnis (Neuqua Valley) won the hurdle sprint double within 20 minutes of each other. McGinnis ran 8.01 (IL #3) to win the 60 Meter Hurdles. McGinnis came right back to run 6.99 to win the 60 Meter Dash ahead of Braylen Anderson (DeKalb) at 7.02 and Eron Kennedy (Naperville Central (7.09). Anderson later in the meet ran 22.25 to win the 200 Meter Dash.

 

Zoelen Perry (Naperville Central) jumped 22-7.5 to win the Long Jump ahead of Neuqua Valley’s Daniel Robinson (22-4.5). Ben Blank (Naperville Central) had an indoor personal best of 55-5.25 to win the Shot Put. Colin Gleason (Metea Valley) cleared a personal best of 13-2.5 to win the Pole Vault. Naperville North edged Naperville Central by one hundredths of a second (1:32.47-1:32.48) to win the 4x200 Meter Relay. Neuqua Valley ran 3:30.25 to win the 4x400 Meter Relay ahead of Naperville North (3:31.08).

 

DuKane Conference Boys @ Batavia HS (3/21) – Batavia won the Boys Conference title (127.5 points) with Lake Park placing second (90 points). It was close for third with St. Charles East (75 points) finishing ahead of Glenbard North and St. Charles North (74 points). The 3200 Meter Run was spectacular in this meet with five runners finishing under 9:30. Edward Polaski (Batavia) edged Greyson Ellensohn (St. Charles East) by six hundredths of a second (9:16.49, IL #7 – 9:16.55, IL #8) for the win. Aidan Murphy (Wheaton North) ran 9:21.56), Samuel Hill (St. Charles North) ran 9:27.75, and Aiden Noel (Wheaton-Warrenville South) ran 9:29.48 to finish in the top five. Francesco Benelli (Batavia) won the 1600 Meter Run (4:23.82) with Josiah Narayanan (Wheaton-Warrenville South) running 4:26.99 to place second with Ellensohn (4:28.98), Murphy (4:30.92), and Hill (4:32.88) following. Michael Wilson (St. Charles East) won the 800 Meter Run (1:59.43) ahead of Glenbard North’s Royce Krush (2:00.81) and Gabriel Early (2:01.12).

 

Glenbard North finished 1-2 in the 55 Meter Dash with Zechariah Morris (6.47) winning ahead of teammate Eduardo Gonzalez (6.50) with Nathan Whitwell (Batavia) finishing third (6.52). Whitwell ran 22.90 to win the 200 Meter Dash with Peter VanLue (St. Charles East) a close second (22.94). Gavin Pecor (Batavia) achieved a personal best of 58-1 (IL #7) to win the Shot Put ahead of Lake Park’s Joseph Michelini (56-1). Nathan McLoughlin (St. Charles North) cleared 15-6 in winning the Pole Vault.

 

DuKane Conference Girls @ Batavia HS (3/22) – Batavia’s Girls team made it a sweep winning the Girls conference team title with 124 points. St. Charles North scored 114 points to finish second. Elizabeth Wende helped Batavia with a triple win in the sprints. Wende ran 7.32 to win the 55 Meter Dash by three hundredths of a second ahead of Geneva’s Alyssa Flotte (7.35). Batavia went 1-2 in the 400 Meter Dash with Wende running 58.39 for the win ahead of teammate Kate Solano (1:00.35). Wende completed the sweep running 25.79 to win the 200 Meter Dash.

 

The closest finish in the meet was in the 4x800 Meter Relay. Both St. Charles North and Wheaton-Warrenville South crossed the finish line at 9:53.29. The North Stars won the race by six thousandths of a second (9:53.283-9:53.289). Maddie Romaine (Wheaton North) ran 11:07.62 winning the 3200 Meter Run with Avery Hacker (Batavia) running 11:09.57) finishing second and Kara Glenn (St. Charles North) with her 11:13.83 time. Glenn came back to run 5:17.26) to win the 1600 Meter Run with Lake Park’s Ruth Dellaria (5:18.23) and St. Charles North’s Gwen Hobson (5:18.27) placing third. Hobson ran 2:18.88 to win the 800 Meter Run by almost six seconds.

 

Chicago Public League Championships @ Gately Park (3/22) – State powers Whiney Young and Kenwood reigned supreme in the Chicago City championships. Whitney Young were dominant in winning the Girls title scoring 141 points. Lane (91 points) and Kenwood (73 points) placed second and third. Kenwood repeated as Boys champions scoring 136 points ahead of Whitney Young (99 points) and Lane (70 points).

 

All-American Angelina Bullocks was one of the many reasons why the Dolphins repeated as City champions. Bullocks ran a state leading 7.40 to win the 60 Meter Dash ahead of Kenwood’s Kee’Lani Whitlock (7.60) and Chloe Gilbert (7.74). Bullocks repeated in the 200 Meter Dash winning with a state leading time of 23.79 with Whitlock finishing second (25.18) and Ella Sweatt (Whitney Young) who ran 25.29). Bullocks was part of the Whitney Young quartet that ran 1:41.74 (IL #5) to win ahead of Kenwood (1:42.68, IL #5). Four runners went under 60 seconds in the 400 Meter Dash as Amelia Arquillano (Lane) ran 59.11 to claim the win. Sa’Myah McCraney (Simeon) ran 59.70 finishing second with Mia Seaton (Whitney Young (59.76) and Leah Smith (South Shore International) at 59.79. Jordan Hamb (South Shore International) ran 8.72 (IL #2) to win the 60 Meter Hurdles with Simone Bernard (Whitney Young) running 8.78 (IL #4) in finishing second.

 

Taya Rice (Agricultural Science) jumped 18-1 to win the Long Jump ahead of Hamb (17-10.5) and Bullocks (17-10.25). Whitney Young finished 1-2 in the Triple Jump with Courtney Burt jumping 39-0.5 (IL #5) ahead of Layla Bonilla (38-7.25) and Hamb (38-1.75). Bonilla and Phoenix Higginbottom gave Whitney Young another 1-2 finish both clearing 5-3.75 in the High Jump.

 

One of the top performances in the Boys Meet was in the 800 Meter Run. Payton established a 1-2 finish in the event as Tra’Monti Williams ran 1:53.72 (IL #2) ahead of teammate Preston Ellis (1:55.41, IL #3). Silas Moody (Whitney Young) ran 1:56.06 (IL #6) to place third with Owen Lilley (Lane) running 1:56.42 (IL #9) to place fourth. Armond Boulware (Kenwood) won both sprint events. Boulware and teammate Parish Hartley Jr. both ran 7.03 with Boulware winning by two thousandth of a second. The two runners also finished 1-2 in the 200 Meter Dash with Boulware (21.85) ahead of Hartley Jr. (22.03). Logic West was a double winner for Kenwood clearing 6-3.5 to win the High Jump. West also ran 49.28 (IL #2) to win the 400 Meter Dash with Lucas Rumsa (Taft) running 49.95 (IL #7) finishing second. West was also a part of Kenwood’s team that ran 3:25.07 to win the 4x400 Meter Relay finishing ahead of Whitney Young (3:28.72) and Payton (3:29.58).

 

Chicago Catholic League Championships @ Gately Park (3/23) – Brother Rice scored 118 points to win the Varsity team title ahead of Loyola Academy (106 points). One of the reasons why Brother Rice won the team title was by the 1-2 finishes from Gavin O’Connor and Andrew Straley achieved in the two distance races. O’Connor ran 9:45.93 for the win with Straley at 9:46.16 placing second in the 3200 Meter Run. Manuel Alvarez (St. Ignatius Prep) ran 9:49.14) to place third. Straley won the 1600 Meter Run (4:29.67) followed by O’Connor (4:20.56). Ethan Petrillo (St. Ignatius Prep) won the 800 Meter Run with a 1:55.78 time (IL #4) finishing ahead of Loyola’s Colin McKinney (1:56.92). Aurora Central Catholic ran 8:07.34 to win the 4x800 Meter Relay ahead of Marmion Academy (8:15.88).

 

Luke Leverett (Providence Catholic) won the 60 Meter Dash (6.86) with Harley Rizzs (St. Laurence) running 6.94 to place second. Rizzs ran 22,28 IL #9) to win the 200 Meter Dash ahead of Brother Rice’s Emer White (22.31) and DePaul Prep’s Thomas Christian (22.35). Matthew Simon (Fenwick) ran 49.78 (IL #4) to win the 400 Meter Dash. St. Laurence won the 4x200 Meter Relay (1:29.89) finishing ahead of Brother Rice (1:30.70). DePaul Prep (3:31.53) edged Marmion Academy (3:31.64) to win the 4x400 Meter Relay.

 

East Suburban Catholic Conference @ North Central College (3/22) – Marist edged Benet Academy 147-143 for the Boys team title. Marian Catholic scored 110 points in finishing third. Benet Academy scored 186 points to win the Girls conference title ahead of Marian Catholic (133 points) and Marist (132 points). Zach Coleman (Marian Catholic) was the only double winner on the track in the Boys Meet. Coleman ran 7.18 to win the 60 Meter Dash ahead of teammate Harrison Russell (7.23). Coleman came back to run 22.91 to win the 200 Meter Dash. Braiden Ferrell (Marist) ran 51.88 to win the 400 Meter Dash. He also cleared 6-1.5 to win the High Jump. Finn Richards (Benet Academy) ran 9:31.53 to win the 3200 Meter Run with Peter Kipp (Northridge Prep) running 9:41.17 to finish second. Henry Thuet (Niles Notre Dame) ran 4:28.09 to win the 1600 Meter Run with Richards finishing second (4:28.84).

 

Erin Hinsdale (St. Francis) was a double winner in the distance events. The 800 Meter Run produced top times. Hinsdale ran 2:13.77 (IL #3) to win the race with Keira Jenke (Benet Academy) running 2:13.77) to finish second. Hinsdale came back to run 5:20.83 to win the 1600 Meter Run ahead of Benet Academy’s Faye Ferrell (5:21.19) and Delilah Helenhouse (5:25.01). Helenhouse earlier in the meet ran a solo 10:59.49 to win the 3200 Meter Run by almost two minutes. Margaret Andrzejewski (St. Francis) ran 59.22 to win the 400 Meter Dash ahead of Marist’s Rose Cosme (1:00.45).

 

Girls Catholic Athletic Conference @ Gately Park (3/21) – St. Ignatius Prep almost doubled the score on the next closest team scoring 160 points to claim the conference title. Loyola Academy (80,5 points) and DePaul Prep (73 points) finished second and third. Maliyah Miller (St. Ignatius Prep) ran 7.69 to win the 60 Meter Dash with Addison Bartling (St. Laurence) her closest competition (8.12). Miller also won the 200 Meter Dash (25.32) winning the event by almost two seconds. Emily Stecky (DePaul Prep) ran 2:13.42 in winning the 800 Meter Run. Annika Swan (St, Ignatius Prep) ran 2:14.73 (IL #7) to finish second ahead of Cecilia Hilby (Aurora Central Catholic) at 2:19.54 and Ella Sheaffer (St. Ignatius Prep) at 2:20.29). Allison Shutler (St. Ignatius Prep) ran 10:56.55 to win the 3200 Meter Run. Jane Lynch (Loyola Academy) finished second (11:02.28). Sydney Gertsen (Montini Catholic) ran 11:07,58 to place third, an indoor best. The 1600 Meter Run turned out to be a sprint to the finish. St. Ignatius Prep finished 1-2 with Swan (5:02.29) ahead of Shutler (5:02.85). Abigail Radich (DePaul Prep) finished third (5:03.47) with her teammate Stecky placing fourth (5:06.67).

 

Fox Valley Conference Boys @ Huntley HS (3/18) – Host Huntley scored in 13 of 15 events to win the Boys Conference title on Tuesday with 110 points ahead of Jacobs (79 points) and Dundee-Crown (73 points). One of the most impressive performances of the meet came in the sprints. Matt Scardina (Jacobs) is in his first year of competing in track. He came away in this meet with three wins. Scardina ran 6.89 in the 60 Meter Dash edging Oreoluwa Sobodu (Jacobs) at 6.90 and Vincent Costa (Huntley) at 6.98. Scardina came back to run 22.62 to win the 200 Meter Dash ahead of teammate Jackson Cook (23.12). Scardina and Cook were part of Jacobs’ quartet that ran 1:31.02 to win the 4x200 Meter Relay finishing ahead of Huntley (1:33.30). Tommy Nitz (Huntley) was a double winner in the distance events. He was part of the Huntley quartet that ran 8:19.86 to win the 4x800 Meter Relay. Nitz stormed away from Max Sudrzynski (Jacobs) in the final laps to win the 1600 Meter Run timed at 4:22.59. Sudrzynski ran 4:28.80 to finish second. Sudrzynski earlier in the meet ran 9:45.20 to win the 3200 Meter Run just ahead of Jackie Clark (Crystal Lake Central) who ran 9:48.79. Jameson Tenopir (Cary-Grove) ran an indoor personal best of 1:56.28 to win the 800 Meter Run. Adam Strombom (Crystal Lake Central) ran 1:57.60 in finishing second. Jackson Hopkins (Crystal Lake Central) and Joshua Maya (Hampshire) both ran 52.80 in the 400 Meter Dash with Hopkins winning by eight thousandth of a second.

 

Fox Valley Conference Girls @ Huntley HS (3/21) – Huntley was in command on their home track scoring 153 points to win the conference title. Hampshire (88.5 points), Burlington Central (65.5 points), and Prairie Ridge (64 points) finished second through fourth. Katherine Jewell (Prairie Ridge) was a double winner. The senior ran 7.67 to win the 60 Meter Dash ahead of teammate Kaitlyn Harmke (7.99). Jewell came back to run 25.69 to win the 200 Meter Dash to win by over a second. Alyssa Garcia (Hampshire) ran under 60 seconds again running 59.45 to win the 400 Meter Dash. Hudson Szymonik (Jacobs) pulled away to run 11:27.31 to win the 3200 Meter Run. Cori Kilvinger (Huntley) ran 11:38.68) to finish second. Haley Rahman (Huntley) won a close 1600 Meter Run timed in 5:17.79 for the win. Emaline Foster (Prairie Ridge) was second (5:20.19) ahead of Szymonik (5:24.18) and Huntley’s Isabella Ciesla (5:25.37).

 

Southwest Prairie Boys Conference @ Lewis University (3/21) – Performances inside the Lewis University Fieldhouse were on fire Friday evening. Plainfield North scored 86 points to win the team title with Plainfield South scoring 76 points to place second. Oswego East (66 points), Bolingbrook (53 points), and Minooka (50 points) were in the top five in this 12-team field. Joe Owusu (Plainfield East) ran the fastest time in the state this (6.38) to win the 55 Meter Dash with Max Smith (Minooka) placing second (6.47, IL #4 tie), and James Kokuro Jr (Joliet West (6.50, IL #10) placing third. Bruce Duncan III (Bolingbrook) ran a personal best of 49.83 (IL #3) to win ahead of Kokuro Jr. (50.12, IL #9) and Austin Ward (Oswego East) who ran 50.66. Duncan III ran a 49.7 anchor leg to lead Bolingbrook to the win in the 4x400 Meter Relay (3:29.90) just ahead of Yorkville (3:29.96) and Oswego East (3:31.22).

 

Zach Morrison (Oswego East) unleashed a state leading 60-8 put to win the Shot Put. Donavin Eason (Oswego East) ran 7.83 (IL #9) in winning the 55 Meter Hurdles. Dylan Maloney (Plainfield South) ran a seasonal best of 9:12.19 IL #5) to win the 3200 Meter Run with Aidan Connors (Plainfield North) running 9:18.91 (IL #10) to finish second. It was close in the 800 Meter Run with Quinn Davis (Plainfield North) running 1:56.53 for the win by three hundredth of a second ahead of Owen Horeni (Yorkville). Dylan Buturusis (Plainfield South) ran 1:57.17 to finish third. Maloney competed his double running 4:21.85 to win the 1600 Meter Run with Plainfield North’s Thomas Czerwinski finishing second (4:22.37)

 

Southwest Prairie Girls Conference @ Lewis University (3/22) – It came down to three teams to determine the Conference champions. Plainfield North won the team title scoring 104 points finishing ahead of Minooka (91 points) and Oswego East (88 points). Plainfield North had some great distance performances but their success in the sprints helped them to the win. Taylor McLain led the Tiger charge running 7.16 (IL #6) to win the 55 Meter Dash. The second through eighth place finishers were separated by less than a tenth of a second led by the second-place finisher Plainfield East’s Haley Anderson (7.31). Plainfield North swept the top two finishers in the 200 Meter Dash won by Lauren Dellangelo (25.33) with McLain finishing second (25.47). Plainfield North’s Lindsey Wenz ran 58.94 to win the 400 Meter Dash. Briyah Beatty (Plainfield East) ran 59.17 to place second. Layla Brisbon (Oswego East) ran 8.60 (IL #7) to win the 55 Meter Hurdles. Plainfield North won the 4x200 Meter Relay (1:44.75) to win by over three seconds ahead of Bolingbrook. Plainfield North was in control of the 4x400 Meter Relay running 4:06.78 off the win by seven seconds ahead of Minooka (4:13.65).

 

The 4x800 Meter Relay was close as Minooka ran 9:31.06 to edge Plainfield North (9:33.70). Less than a second separated the top two runners in the 3200 Meter Run with Leah Kleckauskas (Yorkville) winning 11:34.33 edging Joliet West’s Erin Santerelli (11:34.52). Madison King (Joliet Central) ran 2:17.57) to edge Plainfield North’s Marlie Czarniewski (2:17.85) to win the 800 Meter Run. Natalie Nahs (Minooka) finished third (2:18.88). Czarniewski came back to run 5:01.44 to win the 1600 Meter Run with Maya Ledesma (Minooka) running 5:04.28 to finish second. Courtney Clabough (Yorkville) had a 39-.2.5 meet best in winning the Shot Put.

 

Southwest Suburban Conference Boys @ Olivet Nazarene (3/21) – Homewood-Flossmoor won the Boys team title with 131 points finishing ahead of Lincoln-Way East (106 points) and Lincoln-Way West (100 points). Austin Rowswell (Lincon-Way West) ran a state leading 49.10 to win the 400 Meter Dash with Lockport’s Nolan Lamoureaux finishing second (49.87, IL #6). Homewood=Flossmoor’s Zion Morrison (6.88) and Joaquin Jordan (6.95) finished 1-2 in the 60 Meter Dash. Rowswell came back to run 21.78 to win the 200 Meter Dash with Jordan running 22.34 to finish second ahead of teammate Morrison (22.50). Morrison also won the 60 Meter Hurdles with a 8.14 time (IL #5). Homewood-Flossmoor won the 4x200 Meter Relay (1:31.22) while Lincoln-Way West ran 3:27.94 to win the 4x400 Meter Relay.

 

How close was the 16700 Meter Run in this meet? It was almost a dead heat as Mateo Ramiro-Garcia (Sandburg) and Braden Hoff (Lincoln-Way Central) came across the line together at 4:23.60. Ramiro-Garcia won the race by one thousandths of a second. Lincoln-Way Central ran a season’s best of 8:00.36 (IL #7) to win the 4x800 Meter Relay with Homewood-Flossmoor running 8:04.54 (IL #9). Another close finish in the distance events was in the 800 Meter Run. Bryce Counihan (Lincoln-Way Central) won the 800 Meter Run (1:58.13) just five hundredths of a second ahead of Caden Wolfe (Andrew) who ran 1:58.18. Sean Hanrahan (Lincoln-Way East) ran 9:40,09 to win the 3200 Meter Run with Lincoln-Way West’s Nicholas Dul (9:43.82) and Henry Eissing (Lockport) who ran 9:46.96 finishing second and third. Judah Van Engen (Andrew) had a distance of 53-5 to win the Shot Put. Anthony Edison Jr (Homewood-Flossmoor) had a best of 22-0.25 to win the Long Jump. Malachi Lee (Bradley-Bourbonnais) jumped 21-10.25 to finish second.

 

Southwest Suburban Conference Girls @ Olivet Nazarene (3/22) – Homewood-Flossmoor pulled away to win the conference title with 141 points. Lincoln-Way East finished second (112 points) ahead of Lockport (90 points) and Lincoln-Way Central (74 points). The addition of All-State athlete Mariyah Robinson to the Homewood-Flossmoor roster gave the Vikings a boost in this meet as Robinson won two individual events. The junior led a 1-2 finish for her team as she ran 7.54 to win the 60 Meter Dash ahead of London Willingham (7.79). Robinson came back to run a state leading 56.45 for the win in the 400 Meter Dash. Alaina Steele (Lincoln-Way East) ran 57.28 (IL #4) to finish second with Sydney Fontaine (Lockport) running 58.48 to finish third. H-F also had a 1-2 finish in the 200 Meter Dash led by Anniya Mullins running 25.08 (IL #7) for the win with Willingham running 25.10 (IL #9) finishing second. Nkeoma Nwachukwu (Sandburg) ran 8.94 (IL #6 tie) to win the 60 Meter Hurdles ahead of Kyra Hayden (Lincoln-Way East) who ran 9.07.

 

Homewood-Flossmoor easily won the 4x200 Meter Relay (1:43.50) to win by five seconds ahead of Lincoln-Way East (1:48.10). The Vikings came back to run 4:03.84 to win the 4x400 Meter Relay finishing ahead of Lockport (4:06.69). Lincoln-Way Central showed their strength in the 4x800 Meter Relay winning with a 9:38.89 time. Sandburg (9:50.99) and Lincoln-Way East (9:51.46). Jaloni Wiley (Homewood-Flossmoor) achieved a new personal best and state leading mark of 44-0 to win the Shot Put by more than eight-feet.

 

Invitationals

 

Gene Armer Invitational @ University of Illinois Armory (3/22)D’Mario Jackson (Danville) had a great Saturday winning two sprint events. Jackson ran 6.94 to win the 60 Meter Dash where two more of his competitors were also under seven seconds with Cole Rinkenberger (Morton) running 6.96 and Dane Whitaker (Normal Community) who ran 6.98. Jackson came back to run 22.16 (IL #6) to win the 200 Meter Dash. Prezadent Morgan (Thornton) ran 22.27 (IL #9) placing second ahead of Connor Smith (Fithian Oakwood) who ran 22.47). Mascoutah ran 1:31.56 to win the 4x200 Meter Relay.

 

Raphael Greer (Marion) ran a huge personal best of 9:21.53 to win the 3200 Meter Run by 21 seconds. Landon Harris (Granite City) won a tactical 1600 Meter Run with a 4:25.91 time finishing ahead of Belleville East’s Chase Cooley (4:29.14) and Marion’s Gabriel Greer (4:29.69). Four runners within a second of each other in the 800 Meter Run. Caleb Mathias (Champaign Central) ran 2:00.07 for the win. Jack Tate (Marion) at 2:00.23, Drew Twyman (Troy Triad) at 2:00.64, and Arlin Orr (Urbana) at 2:00.90 were next. Devin Habermehl (Collinsville) had a 56-3.75 best to win the Shot Put. Gavyn Cothern (Richland County) and Matt Pluff (Freeburg) both cleared 6-5.5 in the High Jump with Cothern winning on fewer misses. Pluff jumped 22-9.25 (IL #10) to win the Long Jump.

 

Sophia Schardan (Troy Triad) was a double winner in the Girls meet. Schardan ran 7.64 (IL #8) to win the 60 Meter Dash with Cassidy Willis (Belleville East) running 7.65 (IL #9 tie) finishing second. Schardan came back in the 200 Meter Dash running 25.10 (IL #8 tie) for the win in the 200 Meter Dash. Willis ran 25.81 to finish second. Jamison Love (Mascoutah) won the 60 Meter Hurdles edging Ann Marie Trentman (Freeburg) by one hundredths of a second (9.06-9.07).

 

Kankakee ran two great races in winning the two sprint relays. The Kays ran 1:42.53 to win the 4x200 Meter Relay ahead of Belleville East (1:43.87). Kankakee came back to run 4:02.11 (IL #5) to win the 4x400 Meter Relay with Belleville East again finishing second (4:06.40).

 

Clinton Last Chance Indoors @ Shirk Center (3/22) – The last meet at the Shirk Center before we get to Illinois Top Times this weekend in this Girls only meet. Freshman Carly Ulrich (Lowpoint-Washburn) cleared a personal best of 5-4.5 to win the High Jump. Jaida Reed (El Paso-Gridley) and Hannah Safranek (Normal University) both ran 7.92 in the finals of the 60 Meter Dash with Reed winning on the photo review. Lydia McIntyre (Normal University) ran 7.94 to finish third. Daniella Bumber (Henry-Senachwine) ran 8.01 to place fourth. Bumber had a great tune-up in this meet running 57.83 to win the 400 Meter Dash. Bumbler came back to run 26.18 to win the 200 Meter Dash ahead of Emma Swisher (Tolono Unity) who ran 26.34, and Ayva Davis (Normal West) who ran 26.38.

 

Champaign Centennial ran 9:57.01 to win the 4x800 Meter Relay ahead of Sacred Heart-Griffin (10:02.21) and Anna-Jonesboro (10:10.09). Normal University ran 1:46.40 to win the 4x200 Meter Relay with Sacred Heart-Griffin finishing second (1:50.06). Sacred Heart-Griffin came back to win the 4x400 Meter Relay (4:11.86) just ahead of Normal West (4:12.32) and Normal (University (4:13.76). The 1600 Meter Run was a competitive race. Zoe Carter (Normal University) ran a season’s best of 5:07.94 to win. Emily Dowling (Cambridge) who ran 2:21 earlier in the 800 Meter Run, ran 5:13.07 to finish second just ahead of Washington’s Sophia Ramirez (5:13.65) and Renee Warren (Normal Community West) who ran 5:14.29.

 

SWIL Relays @ Principia College (3/21) – Relays dominated this meet putting up some impressive performances. In the Girls competition, the top three teams in the 4x200 Meter Relay were separated by a second. Belleville East ran 1:45.48 to claim the win ahead of Edwardsville  (1:45.95) and Alton (1:46.46). Edwardsville running 4:12.01 won the 4x400 Meter Relay with O’Fallon (4:13.98) and Alton (4:15.06) finishing second and third. Chatham-Glenwood, led by a 2:24.4 anchor from Sophie Rentmeister, ran 10:01.48 to win the 4x800 Meter Relay ahead of O’Fallon 10:15.74.

 

It was a great race in the Boys 4x800 Meter Relay with some of the top programs in the state facing off. O’Fallon held on to run 8:03.76 (IL #9) to win the race with Chatham-Glenwood (8:06.50) and Edwardsville (8:07.88) finishing second and third. Cahokia ran 1:32.18 to hold off Chatham-Glenwood (1:32,32) to win the 4x200 Meter Relay. The Comanche won their second relay of the meet as they ran 3:27.00 (IL #7) to win the 4x400 Meter Relay ahead of Chatham-Glenwood (3:28.90) and Alton (3:33.88).

 

Cogdal Boys Invitational @ Illinois State (3/22)Riley Hogan (St. Thomas More) tuned up for Illinois Top Times clearing a personal best of 14-5.25 to win the Pole Vault with Logan McCabe (Pontiac) also clearing a personal best of 13-5.25 to finish second. Will Nohren (Shelbyville) cleared 6-6.75 in winning the High Jump. Jamarion Bardwell (Sacred Heart-Griffin) achieved a personal best of 44-11.5 to win the Triple Jump. Zane Hoffman (Colfax-Ridgeview) ran a personal best of 7.00 to win the 60 Meter Dash with Dylan Anderson (Pekin) running 7.10 in finishing second. Ben Gorsage (Washington) ran 2:02.08 in winning the 800 Meter Run finishing ahead of Effingham’s Alex Gordan (2:03.00) and Metamora’s Trae Helwig (2:03.91). Liam Bettis (Taylorville) established a personal best of 4:25.99 to win the 1600 Meter Run with Daniel Grauer (Mt. Zion) running 4:31.72. Joe Atkins (Washington) had a best of 55-11.75 to win the Shot Put ahead of teammate Jace Lott (51-1.5).

 

Cogdal Girls Invitational @ Illinois State (3/21)Lia Patterson (Tuscola) ended up winning two events Friday evening in this meet. The Tuscola senior started out this meet running 9.23 to win the 60 Meter Hurdles ahead of Brunn Kendall (Normal University) who ran 9.78 and Ianni Jones (Springfield) who ran 9.96. Patterson came back in a load field in the 60 Meter Dash where she finished third overall. Nina Brown (Champaign Centennial) ran 7.72 for the win with Lena Jackson (Peoria Richwoods) who ran 7.83 in finishing second. Patterson’s time of 7.89 is currently #2 in Class 1A this indoor season. Patterson easily won the 200 Meter Dash (26.08) with Jackson running 26.95 a distant second. Marco Reynolds (Normal Community) achieved a seasonal best of 41-1 (IL #3) to win the Shot Put.
