The weather broke for the better for teams and athletes in the last weekend giving us great performances all over the state. You can read highlights about all the Girls Conference Meets on this link.
Here are highlights of some of the meets that took place from Friday and Saturday.
DuPage County Meet @ Wheaton-Warrenville South (5/9) – Daniel Robinson won both sprint races to help Neuqua Valley win the 91st annual County Meet with 93 points. York won all four relays to help the Dukes finish second with 87 points. It was nearly perfect conditions at Red Grange Field with perfect conditions with temperatures near 60 degrees. Amari Williams of Wheaton-Warrenville South took advantage of that running his second #1 time in the state as in many weeks. He made up the stagger on the field by the third hurdle going on to run 37.69 missing the meet record by five hundredths of a second. Cooper McGinnis of Neuqua Valley ran 38.37 (IL #5) to finish second. McGinnis earlier in the meet ran 14.35 to win the 110 Meter Hurdles finishing ahead of Williams (14.72), Luke De Simone of York (14.76), and Nico Gall of Naperville North (14.81).
The top race of the meet came in the 1600 Meter Run running the race in windless conditions. Josiah Narayanan of Wheaton-Warrenville South made sure that this race would not be slow and tactical as he passed the 400-meter mark in 60.3 seconds with Patrick Clune of Naperville Central, Aiden Noel of Wheaton-Warrenville South, Aidan Murphy of Wheaton North, and York’s Patrick Hill and Sam Kehoe close behind. Narayanan passed 800 meters in 2:04.8, 1200-meters in 3:10.0, before Clune took the lead as the final lap bell sounded. Clune ran the final lap in 62.1 seconds to win the race with a 4:12.94 time (IL #5). Murphy ran 4:16.06 to finish second ahead of Narayanan (4:16.78). Hill’s time of 4:18.27 finished fourth and set a new school freshman record by four tenths of a second ahead of York great Donald Sage. Noel also dipped under 4:20 timed at 4:18.34 to place fifth. A final kick gave Jesse Gudauskas from Neuqua Valley barely gave him the win (9:33.51) just ahead of Judah McLean of West Chicago (9:34.15) and Patrick McGrail of York (9:34.73). Lucas Galas of Glenbard South ran 1:58.14 to hold off Lukas Probst of Naperville Central (1:58.27) to win the 800 Meter Run.
Robinson got off to great starts in both of his sprint races to put him in position to win. Robinson ran a season’s best of 10.82 to win the 100 Meter Dash. Tyler Ford of Waubonsie Valley was seeded tenth in the event but ran 11.06 to win his section and finished second overall. Robinson came back to run 22.18 to easily win the 200 Meter Dash. Henry Raber of Metea Valley ran 49.40 to win the 400 Meter Dash. York’s relay sweep started in the 4x800 Meter Relay as the Dukes ran 7:57.53 to win with Willowbrook second (8:11.35). York did not have Bruno Massel in their lineup in the 4x100 but still ran 42.42 to win with Naperville North (42.61) and Wheaton-Warrenville South (42.72) finishing second and third. York ran 1:30.23 to win the 4x200 Meter Relay ahead of Naperville Central (1:30.83). York finished the night running 3:25.76 to win the 4x400 Meter Relay with Metea Valley running 3:27.36 to finish second. Carl Givens of Wheaton North threw 174-4 to win the Discus. Ishmaiah Elliott of Waubonsie Valley cleared 6-4 to win the High Jump. Kyle Quaid-Bowman of Glenbard South cleared 15-8 to win the Pole Vault. David Taiwo of Neuqua Valley jumped 46-0.5 to win the Triple Jump finishing ahead of Jaden Royal of Willowbrook (45-4.5).
Kane County Championships @ St. Charles North (5/9) – Weather conditions were perfect in this meet, St. Charles North scored 112 points to edge West Aurora (108 points) and Kaneland (103 points) to win the county team title. Azuriah Sylvester of West Aurora had a big meet winning two events. Sylvester jumped 23-4.75 (IL #8) to win the Long Jump and ran 14.95 to edge Patrick Fitzgerald (14.96) to win the 110 Meter Hurdles. Fitzgerald came back to run 38.73 (IL #9) to win the 300 Meter Hurdles ahead of Sere Iranloye of West Aurora who ran 38.83 (IL #10). Oreoluwa Sobodu of Dundee-Crown ran away from the field to run 10.69 (IL #8) to win the 100 Meter Dash. The junior came back to run 21.99 to win the 200 Meter Dash ahead of Iranloye (22.32). He also anchored Dundee-Crown to a win in the 4x100 Meter Relay in 41. 85 (IL #7) ahead of Batavia (42.24) and Kaneland (42.67). Kaneland ran 1:27.85 (IL #6 Tie) to win the 4x200 Meter Relay. Dundee-Crown ran at 1:29.00 to finish second. Thomas Woodard of Batavia ran 48.56 to finish second. Samuel Wollak of St. Charles East ran a personal best of 49.05 to finish second. St. Charles East ran 3:20.96 (IL #4) to win the 4x400 Meter Relay with Batavia running 3:24.25 to finish second.
West Aurora pulled away to run 7:53.73 (IL #4) to win the 4x800 Meter Relay with Batavia (8:03.56), Aurora Central Catholic (8:04.40), and St. Charles North (8:05.81 following. Samuel Hill of St. Charles North ran 9:24.05 to win the 3200 Meter Dash. Evan Nosek of Kaneland ran 9:31.76 to finish second. Edward Polaski of Batavia won the 800 Meter Run ahead of Gavin Smith of Kaneland (1:57.82) and Lucas Reed of St. Charles North (1:57.91). Cole Tupper of Elgin ran a personal best of 4:17.53 to edge Greyson Ellensohn of St. Charles East (4:17.71) to win the 1600 Meter Run. Carson Kaiser of Kaneland ran 4:21.10 to finish third. Dionte Shaw of West Aurora was a double winner in the Shot Put (57-5.5) and the Discus (169-9).
Collinsville Boys Invitational (5/10) – Some great performances in this meet. Michael Kpomassy of East Moline United unleashed a 66-1 heave to win the Shot Put with the longest put in the state. Andrew Kinsman of Benton had a 59-5.25 mark to finish second. Iose Epenesa of Edwardsville threw 183-4 to win the Discus. Devin Habermehl of Collinsville threw 182-9 (IL #4) to finish second. Larry Wills of Chatham-Glenwood cleared 6-6 to win the High Jump. Parker Owens of Edwardsville cleared 15-1.25 to win the Pole Vault. Rex Hallaran of Richland County jumped 23-10 (IL #2) to win the Long Jump with teammate Gavyn Cothern jumping 23-8.25 (IL #4) finishing second. Three other athletes were over 23-feet in this event including Shamond McLain of East St. Louis (23-4, IL #9), Larry Wills (23-3.25, IL #10), and Braden Missey of Belleville West (23-2). McLain also jumped 46-0 to win the Triple Jump with Leonard Bratton of Centralia finishing second (45-1.5).
Akeelan Dowell of Cahokia won the 100 Meter Dash with a 10.64 wind aided time (+2.9 m/s) and an IL #5 performance. Darren Wilson of Edwardsville (10.88) and Chris Pete of Waterloo (10.89) finished second and third. Cincere Ruffin of Edwardsville ran a wind legal 21,51 (IL #5) to win the 200 Meter Dash. Morquez Bulliner of Belleville West ran 21.59 (IL #7) to finish second. Three more athletes ran under 22 seconds which included Dowell (21.78), Pete (21.87), and Clayton Lakatos of Edwardsville (21.88). Trey Mclean of Belleville West ran 48.08 (IL #2) to win the 400 Meter Dash ahead of Daylin Donaldson of Belleville East at 48.43 (IL #4), and Noah Feldt of Mascoutah at 48.60 (IL #6). Cahokia’s Corrion Raiford (49.32) and Jaylen Pennington (49.47) finished fourth and fifth. The relays always shine in this meet. 2025 was no exception. Edwardsville ran 41.75 to win the 4x100 Meter Relay ahead of Mascoutah (41.85) and East St. Louis (42.05). Cahokia ran 1:27.57 (IL #4) in winning the 4x200 Meter Relay. Springfield finished second at 1:27.76 (IL #5) ahead of Mascoutah (1:28.25) and Belleville West (1:28.52). The top two times in the state came in this meet in the 4x400 Meter Relay. Belleville West ran a state leading time of 3:17.75 with Cahokia in second at 3:18.78 and an IL #2. East St. Louis finished third (3:20.45) ahead of Springfield which ran 3:21.86 (IL #6) to finish fourth. Louis Yohannes of Triad ran 14.34 to win the 110 Meter Hurdles ahead of Michael Mavec of Normal Community (14.74). Nigel Gooden of Cahokia ran 39.50 to edge teammate Reginald Griffin (39.57) to win the 300 Meter Hurdles. Mavec ran 39.60 to finish third.
Quaid Berger of Richland County missed the meet record in the 3200 Meter Run. The freshman ran 9:26.76 to win the race with Hugh Davis of Edwardsville finishing second (9:28.82). Luke Smith of Edwardsville ran 1:55.56 to edge Brady Moser of Chatham-Glenwood (1:55.61) in winning the 800 Meter Run. Darius Ivy of East St. Louis (1:56.23) and AJ Ince of Normal Community (1:56.25) to finish third and fourth. Landon Harris of Granite City ran a personal best of 4:19.01 to win the 16000 Meter Run. Ince doubled back from the 800 to run 4:20.02 to finish second. Brayden Kloeppel of O’Fallon (4:20.84) and Drew Twyman of Troy Triad (4:22.30) to finish third and fourth. Edwardsville ran 7:56.15 (IL #6) to win the 4x800 Meter Relay.
Bill Jackson Invitational @ Lockport (5/9) – This meet is run in three different levels. Dontrell Young of Oswego swept all three sprint races in this meet. Young ran 10.73 to edge Joe Owusu of Plainfield East to win the 100 Meter Dash. Young then ran a season’s best of 48.61 (IL #7) to win the 400 Meter Dash, His third win came when the sophomore ran 21.58 (IL #6) to win the 200 Meter Dash ahead of Xavier Adeniyi from Fremd (22.02). Jezhian Sprinkle of Oswego swept both hurdle events by winning the 110 Meter Hurdles (14.90) and the 300 Hurdles (39.70). Oluwadamilare Hassan of Fremd jumped a state leading 48-2 to win the Triple Jump with Carvelle Caldwell of Plainfield South jumping 46-0 (IL #9) to finish second.
Nolan Lamoreux of Lockport Township ran the fastest time in the state in winning the 800 Meter Run with a 1:51.92 time. Tommy Nitz of Huntley (1:55.49) and Caden Wolfe of Andrew (1:55.77 finished second and third. There were four runners under 4:20 in the 1600 Meter Run. Rory Gaan of Fremd ran a school record of 4:11.43 (IL #2) to win ahead of Owen Horeni of Yorkville at 4:14.91 (IL #10), Aidan Connors of Plainfield North (4:17.49), and Conrad Saner of Downers Grove South (4:18.98). Mateo Ramiro-Garcia of Sandburg ran 9:24.02 to win the 3200 Meter Run. Jack Jennings of Fremd ran 9:27.85 to place second. Sandburg ran 8:03.48 to win the 4x800 Meter Relay. Plainfield East ran 42.22 to win the 4x100 Meter Relay with Lockport close at 42.35. Huntley won the 4x200 Meter Relay by two seconds (1:29.01). Lockport ended the meet running 3:24.41 to win the 4x400 Meter Relay just ahead of Yorkville (3:25.93).
McCarthy Memorial Invitational @ Hinsdale Central (5/9) – The biggest performance in this meet happened when Lukas Brauc of Oak Park-River Forest went over 17-feet for the first time in his career. Brauc had already won the event when he had the bar raised to 17-3. He cleared that height on his opening attempt to rise to #2 in the state.
Carter Hayes of Palatine ran 4:16.11 to win the 1600 Meter Run ahead of Will Surratt of Downers Grove North (4:21.13) and Jack Galminas of Lincoln-Way Central (4:21.69). Grant Schroder of Downers Grove North led three runners under 1:56 as he ran 1:54.73 (IL #8) to win the 800 Meter Run. Bryce Counihan of Lincoln-Way Central (1:55.69) and Finn Kelly of Oak Park-River Forest (1:55.87) placed second and third. Henry Miller of Hinsdale Central ran 9:29.21 to win the 3200 Meter Run ahead of Evan Parker of Niles North (9:33.85) and Nicholas Dul of Lincoln-Way West (9:34.83). Dominic Tresslar of Hinsdale ran 11.02 to win the 100 Meter Dash. Austin Rowswell of Lincoln-Way West won the 400 Meter Dash (48.66) with both Matthew Simon of Fenwick (49.38) and Brian Carter-Jackson of Oak Park-River Forest (49.55) both running personal bests. Rowswell came back to run 22.02 to win the 200 Meter Dash with Tresslar (22.08) finishing second. Brendan Vlasak of Lincoln-Way West easily won the 110 Meter Hurdles timed at 14.60. Vlasak came back to run 38.89 to win the 300 Meter Hurdles.
Ron Gummerson Track Classic @ Conant (5/9) – Matt Scardina of Jacobs has improved week to week. He showed his strength with a sprint double win. Scardina ran 10.88 to win the 100 Meter Dash. Max Smith of Minooka finished second (10.96) ahead of Joran Ademuyiwa of Glenbard West (10.99). Scardina ran a personal best of 21.86 to win the 200 Meter Dash. Scardina was also a part of Jacobs quartet in the 4x100 Meter Relay. Jacobs ran 42.01 to win (IL #10) ahead of Maine South (42.37). Scardina was also a part of the quartet that ran 1:27.46 (IL #2) to win the 4x200 Meter Relay. Max Sudrzynski of Jacobs ran 1:56.75 to win a close 800 Meter Run just ahead of Luis Mendoza of Maine East (1:56.96). Glenbard West’s Graham Faris ran 4:21.60 to win the 1600 Meter Run ahead of Elliot Batz of Rock Island (4:22.93). Matt King of Glenbard West won the 3200 Meter Run (9:22.32) with Brady Faulkner of Conant running 9:25.29 to finish second.
Thornton Township Classic @ Rich Township HS (5/10) – William Landwehr of New Trier ran 10.51 (IL #2) to win a fast 100 Meter Dash with Justin Johnson of Evanston Township (10.74) and Joaquin Jordan of Homewood-Flossmoor (10.76) finishing second and third. It was a close finish in the 200 Meter Dash as Landwehr ran a state leading 21.21 for the win with Zion Morrison of Homewood-Flossmoor running 21.23 (IL #2) to place second. Johnson ran 21.62 to finish third. Homewood-Flossmoor ran a state leading 41.55 to win the 4x100 Meter Relay, Crete-Monee (42.10) and New Trier (42.55) finished second and third. Enijel Shelton of Evanston Township won both the Shot Put (55-7.75) and the Discus (149-9).
Holt Invitational @ DeKalb (5/9) – The first race of the 2025 season for Jacob Barraza of DeKalb was in the middle of April. He is now getting into elite shape just in time. Barraza tuned up for championship season by running 1:43.15 (IL #7) to win the 800 in this meet by five seconds. Colin Frederiksen of Moline ran 10.76 to win the 100 Meter Dash ahead of Alexander Perry of Guilford (10.89) and Edquinn Sanders of Rockford Auburn (10.97). Perry came back to run 21.85 to win the 200 Meter Dash ahead of Frederiksen (22.21).
Mike Mowen Boys Invitational @ Winnebago (5/9) – It was not that big of a surprise that Nicolai Martino of Winnebago had run 9:06 at Prospect two weeks ago. The fact that on Friday on his home track that Martino ran 9:00.96 (IL #6) by himself on his home track for one last meet makes this race extremely impressive. He lapped the field winning the race by 83 seconds. Tim Starwalt of Byron ran 4:29.51 to win the 1600 Meter Run. Daniel Gonzalez of Oregon ran 1:59.30 to win the 800 Meter Run ahead of Winnebago’s Daniel Hodgdon (1:59.25) and Aiden Vazquez (1:59.43).
Lady Spartan Classic @ St. Joseph-Ogden (5/9) – Most of the teams and runners in this Girls meet competed in conference meets earlier in the week. The big race of the weekend belonged to Molly Farrell of Marshall. The junior ran 4:52.74 (IL #6) ahead of teammate Madeline Fox (5:06.79) and Klaire Eighner of Maroa-Forsyth (5:12.27). Farrell took the pace out in 69 seconds already taking a six second lead on the opening lap. She ran the next three laps in 74.9, 75.5, and then 73 seconds on her final lap. Her confidence this spring is growing and was evident in this race. Savanna Franzen of St. Joseph-Ogden achieved a personal best of 2:17.19 to win the 800 Meter Run.
