Plainfield North’s state dominance nets them Girls Relay Program of the Year

By Michael Newman

Plainfield North ended up their season with a fifth-place finish, their highest state meet finish in their history. 36 out of the 39 points that they scored in Charleston were from the four relay events that were contested.

The Tigers’ performances during the season give them the top spot and winner of the 2025 ILXCTF.com Girls Relay Program for this season.

The 197 points scored by Plainfield North is a new point total record in the 12 years that this list has been complied. Two-time defending champion Prospect had great season scoring in all four relays at state. Their 192 points to finish second is the all-time point finish total for a non-program winner.

Plainfield North had the fastest time in the state in both the 4x200 Meter Relay and 4x400 Meter Relay winning both races. The Tigers also finished second in the 4x800 Meter Relay and third in the 4x400 Meter Relay. Prospect won the 4x800 Meter Relay in the Class 3A state meet for a record fifth year in a row. The Knights finished second in the 4x100 Meter Relay, third in the 4x200 Meter Relay, and fourth in the 4x400 Meter Relay.

It was close for the next three places of the top five finishers. Homewood-Flossmoor’s state record win in the 4x100 Meter Relay helped the Vikings to finish third with a 141 points. Kankakee scored 140 points to finish fourth with Whitney Young scoring 139 points to finish fifth.

Class 2A state team champion Normal University was one of two Class 2A teams to finish in the overall top 20 finishing eleventh. Tolono Unity finished eighteenth overall.

The Southwestern Conference placed four teams in the top 20 to lead all conferences led by Belleville East finishing sixth. The West Suburban Conference-Silver placed three teams in the top 20 led by Downers Grove North finishing ninth.

The ILXCTF.com (formally the DyeStat Illinois) Relay Rankings are based off the DyeStat TFX Outdoor Leaderboards on Athletic.net (as of May 31, 2025) for the four relays that are contested at the IHSA State Track & Field Meet. In the All Class, 3A, 2A, and 1A categories, the top 50 quartets are ranked with 50 points given to the fastest school down to 1 point for the 50th fastest.
