Homewood-Flossmoor Boys Relay Program of the year for second time in three years

By Michael Newman

For the second year in a row, there was no Boys team that were overly dominant in the four relays that we compile this list compared to the Girls list where there were two power teams.

This year, it was Homewood-Flossmoor’s turn. The Vikings had the top time in the 4x100 Meter Relay and second fastest time in the 4x200 Meter Relay and scored in the other two relays. The Vikings scored 158 points to become the ILXCTF.com Boys Relay program for 2025. It is the second time in three years that Homewood-Flossmoor has been the top team on this list having scored 184 points in 2023 to win. They finished sixth in 2024.

York had four strong relays this season with their 4x100 Meter Relay quartet entering the state meet with the fastest time. The Dukes ended the year with the fourth fastest time in that event with all three other relays scored in the top 20. York scored 147 points to finish second overall. Class 2A second-place team finisher East St. Louis won three of the four relays at the state meet which helped them finish third overall with 137 points. Oswego East scored 131 points to finish fourth. Springfield had a great season especially in the relays. The Senators scored 128.5 points to edge Kenwood (128 points) for fifth place.

The Southwestern Conference had four teams among the top 20 in the overall division with Belleville West in seventh and Edwardsville tenth in the top 10. There were no other conferences/leagues that had more than two teams to place in the top 20.

Three schools from Class 2A finished in the top 20 including East St. Louis, Cahokia in ninth and 2A State Champion Sycamore in eleventh.

The ILXCTF.com (formally the DyeStat Illinois) Relay Rankings are based off the DyeStat TFX Leaderboards on Athletic.net (as of May31, 2025) for the four relays that are contested at the IHSA State Track & Field Meet. In the All Class, 3A, 2A, and 1A categories, the top 50 quartets are ranked with 50 points given to the fastest school down to 1 point for the 50th fastest.
