Notes – We should get some questions answered after the three NXR Regional races that will take place this weekend.

Illinois teams looked extremely strong at last weekend’s state meet. Naperville North and Yorkville were only separated by seven points in the 3A race with Naperville North winning their third straight state title. Both squads ran the fastest team times ever in the state race surpassing the previous best time by almost a minute. Downers Grove South also ran great and moved into the top 10 on this list. With Ohio teams forced out of this race due to their state being moved to this Saturday, the three teams look to take those spots in Sunday’s race. Fort Wayne Carroll IN could be close after a dominating in in their state meet two weeks ago. The question will be whether they are running their full state lineup in this race. It appears they only have four runners that they were in the entries released on Thursday.

Naperville North, Yorkville, and Summit OR are interchangeable in the top three spots. Then a slight gap and then Boise ID and Great Oak CA. That gap should get even tighter in the next three weeks. Summit and Boise looked strong in winning their respective state meets. The two face each other Saturday at the Northwest Regional in Boise, Idaho. Portland Jesuit, North Central WA, and Hellgate MT are all among the top 16 national squads making this meet one of the best regional races in the next three weekends.

St. Michael-Albertville MN surprised many by winning the 2A State Meet in Minnesota last Saturday ahead of Wayzata and Edina. It makes Sunday’s Heartland Region race interesting to watch with any of those three teams capable of winning.

At-large school opportunities start popping up with this weekend’s regionals. In no particular order, California, Midwest, New York, and Heartland have the best chance to have a third team make it to Portland. There is still many meets and plenty of politicking left to decide who will be in Portland.
