Illinois HS XC Weekend Highlights - October 17, 2021

 

A look at primarily conference meets from the past week

Big 12 Conference – October 16

Ali Ince of Normal Community was in control of the Girls race in the first meet of the day at Detweiller Park. The sophomore ran 18:11 to win the conference title for the second year in a row with Teagan Cover of Peoria Notre Dame her closest competition finishing second (18:25). The first three teams in the Girls Varsity race were only separated by seven points. Normal Community placed 3 runners in the first 5 to win the team title with 50 points. Peoria Notre Dame finished second with 52 points behind Cover’s finish as well as placing their second through fifth runners between 8th and 16th. Normal West finished third (57 points) led by top 10 finishes from Addysen Clark (4th) and Ashleigh Horton (6th).

Sam Lambert of Urbana ran 15:39 to easily win the Boys individual race by 34 seconds ahead of Peter Smith of Champaign Central. Trey Socha of Peoria Notre Dame ran 16:15 to finish third. PND placed 5 runners in the top 16 with a 36 second split to win the conference title with 42 points with Urbana scoring 61 points to finish second. Normal Wes and Normal Community finished third and fourth both scoring 78 points.

Big Northern Conference – October 16

Winnebago’s Grace Erb ran 17:45 to win the Girls Varsity title by five seconds ahead of Dixon’s Emma Smith (17:50) on the 2.87 Byron Forest Preserve course. Erb’s win helped the top ranked team in Class 1A win their conference championship with 28 points placing all of their scorers in the top nine. Marissa Roggensack finished third (18:06) as the team’s second runner. She was followed by Sophia Marino (7th), Kaylee Woolery (8th), and Renee Rittmeyer (9th) who finished within 21 seconds of each other. Their top five split was 63 seconds. Dixon scored 49 points to finish second behind top 10 finishes from Smith, Emily Conderman (5th), and Keeley Mick (6th). Rock Falls scored 81 points to finish third.

Rockford Christian swept the first three places while putting 6 in the first 11 to easily win the Boys title with 23 points. Rock Falls was the closest team as they scored 63 points to finish second. Weston Forward led the Royal Lions running 15:39 to win the individual race. Ethan Walsh (15:47) and Aidan Sosnowski (15:52) finished second and third behind their teammate. Rockford Christian’s top five split was 62 seconds.

Cahokia Conference – October 16

This meet was scored in three divisions Saturday at Okaw Valley Park in New Athens. Nick Fehr of Red Bud ran 16:06 to win the overall individual title ahead of Grant Schleifer of Okawville (16:09) and Gavin Hill of Trenton Wesclin (16:29) were the next fastest runners. Freeburg won the Mississippi Division with 27 points. Trenton-Wesclin edged Red Bud 36-42 to win the Illinois Division, and Steeleville scored 15 points to win the Kaskaskia Division. Madison Missey of Columbia won the Girls individual title (19:57) four seconds ahead of Alexis Vogel of Freeburg (20:01). Breanna Thurman of Salem ran 20:13 to finish third. Freeburg scored 37 points to win the Mississippi Division. Okawville scored 31 points to win the Illinois division. Dupo was the only team to have five runners in the Kaskaskia Division and they scored 15 points to win.

Central State Eight Conference – October 16

Chatham-Glenwood placed 4 runners in the top 8 with their fifth runner at 15 to win the Girls conference title with 38 points. Normal University (50 points) finished second while 1A Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin finished third with 86 points. Colleen Zeibert of Rochester won her home course running 18:14 for the win. U-High’s Delaney Fitzgerald (18:24) and Zoe Carter (18:46) finished second and third. Glenwood’s split between fourth-place Nia Gibson and fifth runner Lydia Gurnsey was 77 seconds. The split on their first four runners was only 20 seconds.

Three points separated the top three teams in the Boys race. Springfield scored 46 points for the win ahead of Chatham Glenwood (47 points) and Normal University (49 points). Normal University had the top two finishers as Sachit Muduli ran 16:10 to claim the win ahead of teammate Brandt Henderson (16:28). Springfield placed 5 runners in the top 14 led by the 6-7 finish from Ethan Sommers and Matthew Johnson. Their top five split was only 17 seconds. Chatham-Glenwood placed 5 runners in the top 18 led by the 4-5 finish from Samson Dessalines and Drew Verenski. Their top five split was 44 seconds.

Central Suburban League – October 16

Nick Falk of New Trier blew away the Boys field timed at 15:06 to in the league championship Saturday at Maine East. George Cahill of New Trier (15:28) and Cole Bernstein of Deerfield (15:33) finished second and third. New Trier put 5 runners in the top 11 overall to win the Varsity title with 26 points. Deerfield (51 points) and Evanston (105 points) finished second and third. This meet was also scored by North and South divisions. Deerfield (North) and New Trier (South) both scored 19 points to win their respective divisions. New Trier’s top five split in this race was 47 seconds.

There were fresh faces in the front in the Girls Varsity race. Glenbrook North’s Maria Polyakov ran 17:38 for the win followed by another freshman and her teammate Juliet Frum placing second (17:43). Maine South freshman Sofia Arcuri ran 18:05 to finish third. Maine South had 5 runners in the top 19 to win the team title with 51 points. Vernon Hills (66 points) and New Trier (67 points) finished second and third. Maine South in the South (40 points) and Vernon Hills in the North (18 points) were the divisional winners. Vernon Hills placed 5 runners in the top 25 led by Reina Hill’s 4th place finish and Anna Todd’s 7th place finish.

Chicago Catholic League – October 16

Fenwick nipped Loyola Academy 45-46 for the league championship. Fenwick accomplished this without their #1 runner Grayden Rill who did not race in this meet. Loyola’s Spencer Werner pulled away from the field running 15:09 for the individual league title with teammate Aidan Simon running 15:25 to finish second. Fenwick placed 5 runners in the top 13 led by the fourth-place finish from Nathaniel McKillop with Zac Daley (7th) and Lee O’Bryan (9th) also finishing in the top 10. Their top five split was 35 seconds. Loyola Academy placed 5 in the top 20 with Casey Gibbons also finishing in the top 10 (8th). St. Ignatius was a close third (55 points) led by top 10 finishes from Nick Kiley (3rd) and Zach Kiley (6th). 1A DePaul Prep placed fourth (91 points) led by Mac Kittrell finishing 5th and Charlie Richardson finishing 10th.

Chicago Public League Championship – October 16 (Girls), October 17 Boys)

This two-day meet at historic Washington Park featured the Girls Meet on Saturday. Northside Prep won the Girls City Championship 61-63 ahead of Payton. Lane Tech (67 points), Whitney Young (73 points), and Jones Prep (101 points) were the next three teams. Jones ran without their top runner Evelyn Hett who was held out of this meet ahead of the upcoming state series. Elia Ton-That of Northside led the individual race running a fantastic 17:08 to claim the win. Three other runners were under 18-minutes with Nikki Chopra of Whitney Young in 2nd (17:48), Lucia Ton-That of Northside in 3rd (17:50), and Josephine Dziedzic of Payton in 4th (17:54).

The Boys Meet on Sunday belonged to Jones College Prep with 39 points. Lane Tech (49 points) and Payton (99 points) finished second and third. Mather and Northside Prep were fifth and sixth both scoring 155 points. Hunter Whitney of Lane Tech claimed the Chicago City crown running 15:04 for the win. Jones runners took the next two spots with Samuel Berlinghof (15:13) and Alan Menninger (15:21) finishing second and third. The Eagles had 5 runners n the top 14 with a 50 second split.

DuPage Valley Conference – October 16

Host Waubonsie Valley came from behind in the final half mile to win their first league title since 2004. The Warriors scored 38 points to edge Neuqua Valley who scored 43 points to finish second. DeKalb scored 83 points to finish third. Neuqua Valley took the pace out early on try to stretch out Waubonsie Valley. They had the lead until the final 300-meters of the race. Riley Newport of DeKalb ran 15:15 to win the individual title by nine seconds ahead of second-place Gabe Ryan of Naperville North (15:24). Waubonsie Valley placed 5 runners in the top 12 led by the 3-4 finish from Angel Solis and Ethan Marshall who both ran 15:25. Andres Perez (9th), Jacob Tukker (10th), and Chris Miserendino (12th) were the rest of Waubonsie’s top five that had a 38 second split. They were still without one of their top five runners, Aidan Oster in this race. Neuqua Valley had 5 runners in the first 13 led by the 5-6 finish from Noah Schalliol and Ryan Palmer. Zac Close (8th), Charlie Rook (11th) , and Nick Rohlwing (13th) were also a part of the Wildcats top five that had a team split of 36 seconds.

It was a close Girls Varsity race with the top five runners within 11 seconds of each other. Lucy Westlake of Naperville North claimed the title running 17:57. Liv Phillips of Naperville Central finished second (18:01 ahead of Naperville North’s Sophie Golobitsch (18:04). Sarah Maggio of Metea Valley (18:06) and Ava Hendren of Naperville Central (18:08) finished fourth and fifth. Naperville North scored 29 points to win the team championship with 5 runners in the top 12. Naperville Central finished with 48 points with 5 runners in the top 20. Metea Valley scored 72 points to finish third.

East Suburban Catholic Championships – October 16

Could this have been the final cross-country race at Arlington International Racecourse? Mary Grace Herberg of St. Viator claimed on of the Varsity wins in this crossing the finish line in 17:39. Louisa Diamond of Benet Academy ran 18:22 to finish second. Nazareth Academy won the Girls team title (50 points) placing 4 runners in the top 11. Benet Academy scored 53 points to finish second. Benet Academy placed 6 runners in the top 10 to easily wins the Boys Championship with 32 points. Marist (70 points) and Niles Notre Dame (85 points) finished second and third. Jake Phillips of Marist ran 15:30 to claim the individual title ahead of St. Viator’s Michael Schumacher (15:44).

Fox Valley Conference – October 16

Crystal Lake Central freshman Hadley Ferrero ran 17:56 to win the Girls title ahead of Isabella Gonzalez of Crystal Lake South (18:12) and Jocelyn Onstot (18:16) of Cary-Grove. Breana Burak of Huntley (18:17) and Danielle Jensen of McHenry (18:24) placed fourth and fifth. 2A top ranked Crystal Lake South put 5 runners in the top 18 to score 52 points to win the Girls team title. Jacobs (66 points) and Crystal Lake Central (72 points) finished second and third.

Hampshire edged Jacobs 59-62 for the Boys Varsity title behind top 10 finishes from Aidan Gonzalez (4th) and Sebastian Abreu (9th). Jacobs placed three in the top 10 with Alex Melendez (6th), Aidan DeMuth (7th), and Mitchell Ruffin (10th). Yusuf Baig of Burlington Central was in charge in the Boys Varsity race running 15:25 to claim the win with Will Gelon of Prairie Ridge (15:57) finishing second.

Girls Catholic Athletic Conference – October 16

This meet was held in conjunction with the CCL Championship at Lewis University. Loyola Academy was without two of their top five runners in this race, Morgan Mackie, and Maeve Norman. They were still able to come away with the conference win with 27 points placing 4 runners in the top 6 and 5 runners in the first 12. Ellie Grammas led Loyola running 17:49 to win the individual race. Bella Daley of Fenwick was 10 seconds back in second place running 17:59.

Heart of Illinois Conference – October 16

Anna Perry of Eureka pulled away from the field early running 17:41 to claim the win by 53 seconds ahead of Nellie Melick of El Paso-Gridley. Eureka placed all their scorers in the top 10 to easily win the Girls Conference title with 27 points. El Paso-Gridley and Tremont finished second and third both scoring 71 points. Mason Stoeger of Fieldcrest tuned up for the upcoming state series races winning this conference title (15:45) by 39 seconds ahead of Colton Knowles of Deer Creek-Mackinaw (16:24). El Paso-Gridley, behind the third-place finish from Noah Ludy, placed 5 runners in the first 13 to win the team title (46 points) finishing ahead of Eureka (54 points).

Independents Classic Meet – October 16

Drew Rogers of Herscher got ready for the upcoming state series with a win on the sectional course in Lisle. His time of 16:06 was more than one minute ahead of Northridge Prep’s Mark Masaka (17:27). Herscher edged Northridge Prep 29-37 for the Boys team title. Willows Academy won the Girls title 30-39 ahead of Herscher. Gracie Kent of Herscher ran 20:49 to win the Girls individual race.

Interstate Eight Conference – October 16

Kaneland placed 5 runners in the top 9 to win this conference meet with 28 points with Sycamore finishing second (39 points). Kaneland freshman Evan Nosek ran 16:03 for the win ahead of Naif Al Harby of Sycamore and Matt Clark of Morris who were both timed in 16:15. Morris won the Girls Conference team title 44 to 54 ahead of Sycamore. Makensi Martin of Morris just edged Lily Baker of Sycamore for the individual win. Both were timed at 19:20.

Kishwaukee River Conference – October 16

Woodstock dominated the Boys race in this meet placing 5 runners in the top 6 to easily win the team title with 16 points. Marengo was the closest team scoring 72 points to finish second. Ishan Patel of Woodstock  led Woodstock running 16:10 for the individual win. Teammate Alan Wickersheim ran 16:23 to finish second. Maggie Adams ran 19:59 for the win teammate Keira Bogott second to lead Woodstock to a 29-51 win ahead of crosstown rival Woodstock North.

Metro Suburban Conference – October 16

Lianna Surtz and her sister Chiara finished first and third to lead Rosary to the Blue Division win in this conference with 41 points. Lianna Surtz’s winning time of 17:38 was just five seconds ahead of Carly Manchester of IC Catholic Prep (17:43). Rosary had 5 runners in the top 14. IC Catholic Prep finished second (55 points) behind top five finishes from Manchester along with Graziella Narcisi (4th) and Kennedy Calcagno (5th). St. Francis and Wheaton Academy finished third and fourth both scoring 74 points. Timothy Christian scored 37 points to win the Red Division title placing 4 runners in the top 9. Westmont scored 58 points to finish second. Angela Borek of Ridgewood ran 19:20 for the Red Division win.

Riverside-Brookfield swept the first three spots while placing 6 runners in the top 13 to win the Boys Blue Division title with 29 points. St. Francis was close with 38 points placing 5 runners in the top 10. Paul Proteau led the Bulldogs running 15:05 to win by 10 seconds ahead of teammate Cooper Marrs. Timothy Christian also won the Boys Red Division title with 22 points. Tim Rosland of Westmont ran 16:34 to win the individual title by 50 second ahead of Timothy Christian’s Tyce Plaisier.

Mid-Suburban League – October 16

Prospect was back at full strength in the Girls Varsity race. The Lady Knights placed 5 runners in the top 9 and scoring 31 points for the league championship Saturday at Busse Woods. Anna Harden of Hersey ran 17:33 to win the league championship with Barrington freshman Scout Storms running 17:37 to finish second. Prospect was led by the third and fourth place finishes from Lily Ginsberg and Hailey Erickson. Bridget Derengowski (7th), Audrey Ginsberg (8th), and Cameron Kalaway (9th) rounded out Prospect’s top five who had a 49 second split on that group. Barrington (58 points), Palatine (87 points), and Hersey (90 points) finished second through fourth.

Palatine won their first Boys League title since 2012 scoring 50 points while placing 5 runners in the top 16. Hersey and Barrington finished second and third both scoring 64 points. Prospect finished fourth (72 points). Sean Safford of Hersey ran 14:59 winning the Boys league title ahead of Palatine’s Jack Casaccio who was timed in 15:02. Palatine’s Mukal Verma (8th), Mason Krieg (10th), Tyler Murphy (12th), and Andy Hansen (16th) were separated by 24 seconds. Their overall top five split was 55 seconds.

NIC-10 Conference – October 16

Belvidere North edged Rockford Guilford 33-36 for the Boys Conference title despite Guilford taking the first two places. Guilford’s Juan Del Real ran 15:36 for the win followed by teammate Brandon Lawson in second (15:46). Evan Horgan led Belvidere North finishing third (16:03). Belvidere North placed 5 runners in the top 10 with a 25 second split. Guilford put 5 in the top 14 with a 70 second split. Hononegah placed 5 runners in the top 9 to easily win the Girls Conference title with 28 points. Boylan Catholic was the closest school to Hononegah scoring 56 points to finish second. Michelle Gasmund of Guilford was timed at 18:41 winning the individual race ahead of Indigo Sterud of Hononegah (19:04) and Isabella Anderson of Boylan Catholic (19:05).

North Lake County Conference – October 16

Aly Negovetich of Grant racing at the final time in her high school career at Bulldog Athletic Complex ran 17:40 to claim the individual title in this conference meet. Becca Runyan of Lakes was a distant second running 18:33. Grayslake Central edged Lakes 40-48 for the team title behind the 3-4 finish from Bella Domier and Sara Armstrong. Sofia Witt (9th), Bryn Sato (10th), and Suhani Peramanu (14th) completed the Rams top five. Grant scored 69 points to finish third.

Grayslake Central swept the first three spots in the Boys Varsity race to win the conference title with 31 points. Lakes scored 65 points to finish second. Trey Sato led the Rams winning the individual race with teammates John Vagnoni (16:33) and Bryan Vale (16:40) finishing second and third. Central placed 5 4unners in the first 14 with a 71 second split.

North Suburban Conference – October 16

Despite Warren taking the first two places in the Boys race, it was Lake Zurich that had the final say. The Bears placed 5 runners in the top 10 to win with 28 points. Warren scored 41 points to finish second ahead of Libertyville (76 points). Luke Wiley of Warren ran 14:58 for the win and by 18 seconds ahead of teammate David Lara. Danny Burns, Dylan Myers, Brandan Eckman, and Will Perez were next for Lake Zurich as the quartet were within 28 seconds of each other. Their overall split was 48 seconds.

Brooke Johnston of Lake Zurich ran 17:19 to win the Girls conference title by 31 seconds ahead of Mia Pasha of Warren. Isabella Marasco of Lake Forest (17:55) and Kristin Loftus of Lake Zurich (18:31). Libertyville had a top five split of 58 with Margaret McGormley (7th), Bree Ponchak (9th), and Sheila Tucker (10th) finishing in the top 10. It was enough to give the Tigers the conference win with 59 points ahead of Lake Zurich (70 points), Warren (72 points), and Lake Forest (80 points).

NUIC Conference – October 16

East Dubuque edged Durand 38-39 for the Boys team title. Aiden Ruiz of Dakota ran 17:19 for the individual win. Durand won the Girls title with 36 points behind the individual win of Angela Meiners. Her winning time was 22:32.

Southland Conference – October 16

Juan Tavares of Bloom Township ran 17:42 to win the Boys Individual title ahead of Chris Montgomery of Rich Township (17:50). Rich Township edged Thornton 58-59 for the Boys team title. Bloom Township scored 27 points to win the Girls team title. Addison Perkins of Thornwood was the Girls individual winner (21:03).

South Suburban Blue Conference – October 16

Lemont placed four runners between fourth and seventh to give them the Boys team win with 33 points. Oak Forest was second with a close 37 points. Diego Duran of TF North ran 16:21 for the individual win finishing ahead of Oak Forest’s Brandon Bagnara (16:55) and Liam McGoldrick (16:57) and Lemont’s Andrew Tilly (17:00). Lemont placed 5 runners in the top 10 to win the Girls Conference title with 24 points. Oak Forest scored 38 points to finish second. Casey Kittridge of Lemont was the individual winner (20:39).

South Suburban Red Conference – October 16

Richards took the top two places and put 4 runners in the top 10 to win the Boys conference title with 48 points. Reavis (68 points) and Shepard (76 points) finished second and third. Richards’ Louie Leahy ran 16:42 to claim the win less than a second ahead of his teammate Owen Forberg (16:43). Jose Lozano of Reavis finished third (16:57). Reavis scored 58 points to edge Evergreen Park (61 points) and Argo (62 points for the team title. Eisenhower’s Isabella Alatore ran 21:21 to win the girls individual title by a second ahead of Ariana Martinez of Evergreen Park.

Southwest Suburban Conference – October 16

State top ranked Sandburg looked impressive in winning their conference title Saturday at Lockport. The Eagles swept the first four places and placed 6 in the top 9 to easily win with only 18 points. Declan Tunney ran 14:39 to win by 16 seconds ahead of teammate Brock Rice. Sean Marquardt (15:09) and Grant Giblin (15:15) finished third and fourth. Trent Anderson (8th) and Ibrahim Tineh (9th) were 27 seconds behind the front pack. Sandburg’s split on their first four runners was 36 seconds. Their split on the top five was 63 seconds. Bolingbrook finished second (61 points) behind top 10 finishes from Ignacio Escamilla (7th) and Hussein Almousawi (10th).

Caroline Schoen of Homewood-Flossmoor readied herself for the state series by destroying the field in the Girls race. Schoen ran 17:19 to win by close to a minute ahead of Kayla Shea of Lockport (18:12. Lily Molloy of Sandburg ran 18:41 to finish third. Lincoln-way East, led by top 10 finishes from Kara Waishwell (5th), Kate Guderjan (6th), and Maura Hanrahan (10th), placed 5 in the top 12 to win the Girls team title with 39 points. Lockport (53 points), Lincoln-Way West (74 points), and Sandburg (80 points) finished second through fourth.

Upstate Eight Conference – October 16

Naomi Ruff of South Elgin clocked 17:37 to win the Girls Conference championship Saturday morning at Bartlett High School. Ruff was 29 seconds ahead of second-place Jenna Buchanan of Bartlett. Heather Durrant of Larkin ran 18:30 to finish third. South Elgin placed 3 runners in the top 5, 5 runners in the top 16 to win the team championship with 39 points. Glenbard East (84 points) and Bartlett (91 points) finished second and third. Carter Eid of Bartlett ran 15:31 to win the Boys conference title on his home course. He finished 16 seconds ahead of Victor Vazquez of Fenton (15:47) and another 14 seconds ahead of Dylan Angel Lainez of South Elgin. Glenbard South had a nice pack with 5 runners in the top 18 and a 34 second split to win the Boys title with 43 points. South Elgin (68 points) and Elgin (82 points) finished second and third.

WSC-Gold Conference Meet – October 16

Downers Grove South was almost perfect in winning their 23 straight conference title Saturday morning on the West Leyden campus course. The Lady Mustangs, without one of their top runners Sophia McNerney, took the first 4 places and 7 in the top 8 to score 16 points to win the Girls title. Hinsdale South scored 61 points to finish second. Holly Johnson won her first conference championship running 17:23. Teammate Kelsey Casella ran 18:23 to finish second. The Boys team from Downers Grove South was just off step of what the Girls team did placing 7 in the top 9 to win the team title with 23 points. Morton scored 53 points to finish second. Tim Neumann of Downers Grove South ran 15:23 to win by 15 seconds. Morton’s Daniel Chavez (15:38) and Alex Bacci (15:44) finished second and third. South’s top five split was only 57 seconds.

Peoria Heights Patriot Invitational – October 16

The final race at Detweiller Park before the state meet took place Saturday afternoon against some of the top 1A teams in the state. Elena Rybak of Father McGivney proved that she is ready to go after a state title again in this race. The freshman ran 18:09 to capture the individual title by nine seconds ahead of another freshman Savanna Franzen of St. Joseph-Ogden and Mabry Bruhn of Monticello who were both timed at 18:18. Ava Knap of St. Joseph-Ogden (18:28) and Rachel Koon of Monticello (18:36) finished fourth and fifth. Tolono Unity won the team championship with 81 points led by Reagan Stringer placing 7th. St. Joseph-Ogden (88 points) and Monticello (95 points finished second and third. Monticello was again without one of their top five runners Estella Miller.

Ryder James of Paxton-Buckley-Loda had a HUGE race in his win in the Boys race. James showed he is ready for the state series running 14:46 to claim the individual win. Tommy Murray of Riverdale was half a minute behind running 15:16 to finish second. Bryson Grant of Iroquois West (15:35), Cannen Wolf of Liberty (15:43), and Brock Loftus of Amboy (15:43) were also in the top five. St. Joseph-Ogden is ready for the drive to state scoring 80 points for the team win. The Spartans placed 5 runners in the top 28 led by the 9-10 finish from Charlie Mabry and Luke Stegall. Arthur-Lovington (101 points) and Riverdale (132 points) finished second and third.

Mid-Illini Conference – October 15

The first of three weekend meets at Peoria’ Detweiller Park provided little drama. Wilson Georges of Limestone, who earlier in the day made a verbal commitment to attend the University of Colorado next fall, cruised to the win in the Boys race timed in 15:01. Cade Zobrist of Morton finished second (15:27) ahead of Jackson Ward of Washington (15:34). 2A top ranked Morton had no problems in this race placing 5 in the first 11 with a 57 second split to win the Boys team title with 30 points. Washington (90 points) and Dunlap (103 points) were the next two teams.

Dunlap had no problems wining the Girls title also placing 5 in the first 11 to also score 30 points. Metamora (54 points) and Morton (72 points) finished second and third. Dunlap freshman Kate Robertson ran 18:26 to claim the individual title with Emma Skinner of Morton (18:39) and Olivia Nordheilm of Washington (18:40) in the next two places. Dunlap’s top five split was 49 seconds.

Central Illinois Conference – October 14

St. Teresa packed it up placing their first 5 in the top 10 to win the Boys Conference title with 37 meets Thursday afternoon at Wimple Park in Tuscola.. Tuscola (46 points) and Shelbyville (54 points) placed second and third. Phoenix Firnhaber of Shelbyville captured the individual title with a 16:30 winning time. Tuscola’s Josiah Horton and Jackson Barrett finished second and third. St. Teresa’s Caleb Kernaghan led his team’s pack by finishing fourth. Their top five split in this race was 38 seconds. Clinton took the first three places to win the Girls team title with 29 points. Shelbyville scored 44 points to finish second Freshman Lexi Lord led her team running 19:42 for the individual win followed by teammates Claire Holland (20:15) and MaKayla Koeppel (20:37).

Independent School League – October 14

Latin School swept the first five spots in the Girls race to score 15 points in winning the league title. Willows Academy scored 50 points to finish second. Ava Parekh covered the 3.05-mile course in 17:20 to win the individual title by 18 seconds ahead of teammate Mia Kotler. Latin School also won the Boys title edging Northridge Prep 28-37. Akili Parekh made it a family affair winning the Boys individual title crossing the line in 16:00. His teammate Ben Gibson ran 16:25 to finish second. Latin School held out Ryan Hardiman from running in this race. Latin School still 6 runners finish in the top 11. Mark Masaka led Northridge Pre by finishing third while his team placed 5 runners in the top 14.

Mississippi Valley Conference – October 14

Joe Schwartz of Waterloo tuned up for the upcoming state series running 15:43 to win on Principia College’s three-mile course. Dallas Mancinas of Highland ran 15:56 to finish second. Highland, behind Mancinas’ finish 5 runners in the top 14 won the Boys conference title with 42 points. Mascoutah scored 67 points to finish second. Waterloo placed 3 runners in the top 5 behind Angelynn Kanyuck’s individual win to win the Girls team title with 43 points. Highland (56 points) and Mascoutah (61 points) finished second and third. Kanyuck’s winning time of 18:31 was 20 seconds ahead of her teammate Danielle Mudd who finished second.

Southern Illinois River to River Conference – October 14[MN1] 

Benton sophomore Gavin Genisio ran 14:28 to break the Herrin City Park course record in winning the individual title ahead of Pinckneyville’s Isaac Teel (14:47). The course length was 2.98-miles. There was one race per varsity race but scored in two divisions. Pinckneyville easily won the Boys Mississippi Division with 19 points ahead of Nashville (42 points). Pinckneyville placed 5 runners in the top 11 in that division. Benton scored 18 points to win the Boys Ohio Division placing 6 runners in the top 8. Olivia Phillips of DuQuoin ran 17:53.3 to win the Girls overall title with Brodie Denny of Anna-Jonesboro (18:41) and Molly Robertson of Carterville (18:51) finishing second and third. DuQuoin placed 5 runners in the top 13 to win the Girls Mississippi Division title with 35 points. Pinckneyville scored 48 points to finish second. Murphysboro won the Ohio Division title with 3 points behind the divisional win from Miah Gilmore who ran 18:56 to finish fifth in the overall race.

Southwestern Conference – October 14

Edwardsville was in control in the Boys race placing 5 in the first 8 to win with 23 points Thursday afternoon at Belleville West. Geordan Patrylak and Ryan Watts finished 1-2 in leading the Tigers running 15:28. Byron Jones of Belleville East was just a second back to finish third. O’Fallon (52 points) and Belleville East (77 points finished second and third. Peyton Schieppe of O’Fallon dominated the Girls race. Her winning time of 17:33 was 50 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Emily Nuttall of Edwardsville. It was close for the conference title. Edwardsville edged O’Fallon 31-33 for the team title placing 5 runners in the top 11. O’Fallon put their top 5 in the first 13 places.

Western Big Six Conference – October 14

This meet on Thursday was the first time this meet was held at Sterling’s Hoover Park. Quincy swept both team titles. Anna Schuering of Quincy ran 18:42 to claim the Girls Individual title ahead of East Moline’s Maddie Miller (19:04). It was al Quincy in the team race as they placed 3 in the first 4 places and 5 in the first 12 spots to win the conference title with 28 points. Geneseo (77 points) and Moline (92 points) finished second and third. The split between Quincy’s second runner Alexandria Meyers and fifth runner Keeauna Scheufele was 67 seconds. Their overall split on five runners was 110 seconds.

It was a close Boys Individual race. Fiker Rosen of Quincy prevailed running 15:18 for the win three seconds ahead of Dale Johnson of Sterling (15:21). Quincy placed 4 runners in the first 11 with their fifth runner placing 17 to win the Boys team title with 43 points. Geneseo, led by top 10 finishes from Justin Johnson (5th), Gavin Allison (6th), and Tyler Gehl (9th) finished second with 49 points. East Moline (81 points) and Sterling (84 points) finished third and fourth. Eric McClelland (4th), Ayden Triplett (10th),Thomas Hess (11th), and Cameron MacDonough (17th) were Quincy’s top five behind Rosen. Their top five split was 119 seconds. Their split from Johnson to MacDonough was 52 seconds.

South 7 Conference – October 13

Alex Partlow of Carbondale tuned up for the upcoming state series in this conference meet on Wednesday. Partlow was timed at 14:43 on this SIU-Carbondale course for 3-mles winning by two minutes ahead of Logan Morgan of Marion who ran 16:34. Marion placed 6 runners in the top 10 to easily win the Boys Conference title with 27 points. Anna Schurz of Carbondale was also a big winner in the Girls Varsity race. Schurz was timed at 19:44 to win by 72 seconds ahead of freshman Claire Nash of Belleville Althoff Catholic. Carbondale placed 3 runners in the top 6, 5 in the top 15 to win the Girls Varsity title with 32 points. Belleville Althoff Catholic scored 50 points to finish second. They did not have their top runner Eris Nelson in their lineup for this meet.

Apollo Conference – October 12

Mahomet-Seymour placed 5 runners in the top 12 to win the Boys Conference meet with 29 points. The Bulldogs’ Joseph Scheele ran 15:46 to win the individual title ahead of Brenden Heitzig of Lincoln (15:50) and Brock Davee of Mattoon (15:58). Taylorville (77 points) and Mt. Zion (86 points) finished second and third in the team standings. Kyle Nofziger (4th), Jonah Singer (5th), Ben Wallace (11th), and Taylor Fan (12th) were the rest of Mahomet-Seymour’s top five. The split from Scheele to Wallace was 43 seconds. The split from Scheele to Fan was 76 seconds.

Becca Heitzig of Lincoln claimed the Girls Varsity race in 18:04 winning the individual race by 65 seconds. The team race was even closer. Mt. Zion placed 5 runners in the top 12 to win 38-39 ahead of Mahomet-Seymour who had 5 runners in the top 15. Mt Zion was led by Sofia Munoz and her second-place finish. Renee Ballard (6th), Emma Mallory (7th), and Ashleigh Anderson (8) were only separated by 11 seconds. Camille Mavis was the team’s fifth runner (12th). Mt. Zion’s top five split was 61 seconds. Ava Boyd led Mahomet-Seymour by finishing third. Chloe Bundren (5th) and Callie Jansen were next (6th) followed by Elizabeth Sims (10th) and Klein Powell (15th). Their overall top five split was 88 seconds.

Little Illini Conference – October 12

Nick Zwilling won the individual while his next four teammates finished in the top eight to give Newton the Boys Conference with 27 points Tuesday afternoon at Lawrenceville’s City Park. Zwilling’s winning time of 16:53 was 13 seconds ahead of second-place Austin Wesley of Robinson (17:06). Robinson (63 points) and Richland County (78 points) finished second and third. Newton’s top five split between Zwilling and their fifth runner Luis Zavala was 50 seconds. Robinson edged Marshall 42-43 for the Girls team title. Robinson was led by the third-place finish from Katelyn Jones while placing 5 runners in the top 16. Marshall placed 3 runners in the top 5 led by the 1-2 finish from Brooklyn Bender (19:02) and Isabel Arthur (19:46) with Cailin Morris placing fifth. Marshall’s fourth and fifth runners placed 17th and 23rd. Robinson placed their sixth and seventh runners in before Marshall’s fifth runner crossed the line.

Sangamo Conference – October 12

Pleasant Plains had five runners finish before Williamsville’s fourth runner crossed the line. That was enough for the win for Pleasant Plains 30-37 ahead of Williamsville to win the Girls Conference title. It was two freshmen that lead the way in this race as Louisa Wilson of Williamsville ran 19:01 to claim the individual title. Abigail Wolters of Pleasant Plains ran 19:17 to finish second. The rest of the race was a minute behind the two runners. Pleasant Plains depth was the difference as they placed those runners in the top 19 before Williamsville’s fifth runner placed 24th.

Vermillion Valley Conference – October 12

Bismarck-Henning was the only Boys school that had a full team in this conference meet held at Kickapoo Pak outside of Danville. Eli Mojonnier of Bismarck-Henning ran 16:15 to win the individual title one second ahead of Bryson Grant of Iroquois West who ran 16:16. Grant the day before finished third at the Amboy Columbus Day Invitational. There were no team scores in the Girls Varsity race. Gabby Moreman of Bismarck-Henning won the Girls Individual title (19:52) by 20 seconds ahead of Macie Russell of Fithian Oakwood (20:12).
