Illinois High School Track & Field Weekend Highlights - March 20, 2022

Here is a look of highlights from some of the conference meets that took place in Illinois for the past week along with some other meets.

 

 

BOYS MEETS

 

DuPage Valley Conference Boys Championships

 

Naperville Central scored 116 points to win the team championship ahead of Waubonsie Valley (103 points) and Neuqua Valley (97 points).

 

The story of Friday night at North Central College was the four individual wins from Metea Valley’s Jalen Johnson. His first two wins came back to back. Johnson ran a state leading 7.64 to win the 55 Meter Hurdles with Neuqua Valley’s Jake Lansdowne at 7.91 (IL #8) finishing second. Johnson came right back to run 6.47 (IL #3) to win the 55 Meter Dash as Daniel Eloe of Naperville North ran 6.56 (IL #7) to finish second. Johnson then stepped up a distance to run 50.60 (IL #6) to win the 400 Meter Dash winning by more than a second ahead of Neuqua Valley’s Austin Belle (51.77). Johnson’s night ended when he ran 22.39 (IL #4) to win the 200 Meter Dash.

 

Naperville Central ran 8:08.16 to hold off DeKalb (8:09.59) to win the 4x800m Relay. Riley Newport, who anchored DeKalb’s 4x8, ran 4:28.08 to win the 1600 Meter Run ahead of Waubonsie Valley’s Angel Solis (4:30.22). Naperville Central swept the 800 Meter Run with Samuel Barnard winning (2:00.38) ahead of teammate Luke Noren (2:00.51). Five runners went under 9:50 in the 3200 Meter Run. Gabe Ryan of Naperville North won the race (9:38.96) ahead of Noah Schalliol of Neuqua Valley (9:43.56). Waubonsie Valley’s Ethan Marshall (9:47.28) and Jacob Tukker (9:47.71) and Zachary Close of Neuqua Valley (9:47.95) all finished within a second of each other.

 

Naperville North won the 4x200m Relay (1:3.09) ahead of Metea Valley (1:34.87) and DeKalb (1:35.23). Naperville Central ran 3:32.53 to win the 4x400m Relay with Waubonsie Valley the next closest team (3:38.10). Naperville North was disqualified in that race.

 

Sam Mika of Waubonsie Valley had a 54-11 mark to win the Shot Put with teammates Jeremiah Hatchett (51-7) and Jose Barragan (49-10.5) finishing second and third. Jaisnav Rajesh of Waubonsie Valley , Toriano Tate of DeKalb, and Xavier London of Metea Valley all cleared 6-0.75 in the High Jump. Rajesh won the event on fewer misses. Tate jumped 22-7.25 to win the Long Jump ahead of Waubonsie Valley’s Brody Squires (21-10.5)

 

WSC-Silver Conference Boys Indoor Championships

 

Oak Park-River Forest won the conference team title with 149.5 points. Daniel Watcke of Hinsdale Central ran an US #3 1:19.96 to win the 600 Meter Run. Read more about the meet HERE.

 

Southwest Prairie Conference Boys Indoor Championships

 

Minooka is on a mission this spring and that showed in this conference team championship. The Indians scored 132 points to win ahead of second and third-place Plainfield North (68 points) and Oswego (65 points). Tyler Colwell led the way with two individual wins. Colwell ran 6.50 to win the 55 Meter Dash ahead of teammate Cael Hiser and Dylan Gramley of Plainfield North (6.63). Colwell ran 22.49 to win the 200 Meter Dash ahead of Gramley (22.74) and Hiser (23.00). Malik Armstrong gave Minooka their third win in the sprints. Armstrong ran 52.15 to win the 400 Meter Dash with Colwell coming back to finish second (53.39). Minooka also ran 1:31.95 to win the 4x200m Relay ahead of Plainfield North (1:33.58) and Plainfield South (1:34.74).

 

Oswego ran 8:12.66 to win a close 4x800m Relay ahead of Plainfield Central (8:13.84), Minooka (8:14.79), and Plainfield North (8:17.99). Plainfield North ended the night at Lewis University to run 3:31.10 (IL #5) to win the 4x400m Relay with Minooka finishing second (3:33.22).

 

Oliver Burns of Plainfield North ran 9:28.13 to win by less than a second in the 3200 Meter Run. Plainfield South freshman Dylan Maloney finished second (9:28.98). Emerson Fayman of Minooka ran an indoor personal best of 1:59.18 to win the 800 Meter Run. Ethan Reynoso of Plainfield South ran 4:25.69 to win the 1600 Meter Run finishing ahead of teammate Camryn Viger (4:26.62) and Parker Nold of Oswego East (4:27.79).

 

Kyle Clabough of Yorkville had a 61-6.25 best to win the Shot Put by more than 12 feet. Christian Sobecki of Oswego cleared an indoor personal best of 14-6 to win the Pole Vault. Teammate Caleb Wright had a double win in the Long Jump (21-9.5) and the Triple Jump (43-1.75).

 

Southwest Suburban Conference Boys Indoor Championships

 

Homewood-Flossmoor took home the conference title (120 points) ahead of Andrew (81 points) and Lockport (72.5 points). Gabe Czako of Lockport ran the fastest time in the state (8.19) in winning the 60 Meter Hurdles. Jerry Hester III of Homewood-Flossmoor finished second (8.51). Czako also won the 400 Meter Dash (52.51). Robert Scott of Homewood-Flossmoor prevented a third win for Czako by running 22.70 (IL #10) to win the 200 Meter Dash. Czako ran 22.83 to finish second. Two hundredths of a second separating the first three spots in the 60 Meter Dash. John Gore of Homewood-Flossmoor claimed the win (7.03) ahead of teammate Taji Mathis-Akinremi (7.04) and Bolingbrook’s Kyle West (7.05). Gore came back to jump 22-1.25 to win the Long Jump.

 

Homewood-Flossmoor ran 1:31.14 (IL #2) to win the 4x200m Relay ahead of Andrew (1:32.41, IL #9). Andrew claimed the 4x400m Relay title (3:32.89) finishing ahead of Bolingbrook (3:35.36).

 

Brett Wasick of Bolingbrook cruised to the win in the 800 Meter Run (2:03.75). It was a close race in the 1600 Meter Run as Caden Simone of Lincoln-Way Central ran 4:19.05 (IL #9) to edge Brock Rice of Sandburg (4:19.46) in winning the 1600 Meter Run. Wasick ran 4:21.63 to finish third. Declan Tunney of Sandburg ran 9:19.88 in his win in the 3200 Meter Run. Tunney won by 13 seconds ahead of Lincoln-Way East’s Nolan Rogers (9:32.98). Homewood-Flossmoor came away with the win in the 4x800m Relay (8:15.57) more than a second ahead of Sandburg (8:17.33).

 

DuKane Boys Indoor Championships

 

Batavia did not let the conference trophy leave their fieldhouse scoring 130.5 points to win the Boys Conference title finishing ahead of Lake Park (97.5 points), St. Charles North (91 points), and Wheaton-Warrenville South (85 points).

 

The sprints were dynamite. Joshua Duncan of St. Charles North ran the fastest time in the state (6.40) to win the 55 Meter Dash. Reese Young of Wheaton-Warrenville South ran 6.46 (IL #2) to finish second. Duncan came back with the fastest time of the state in the 200 Meter Dash (22.21) ahead of Batavia’s Jacob Hohmann (22.78) and Vince Solano (22.84). Jonah Fallon of Batavia dipped under 50-seconds for the first time indoors with a 49.94 time (IL #2) to win the 400 Meter Dash. Batavia swept the sprint relays running 1:32.58 to win the 4x200m Relay ahead of St. Charles North (1:34.43) and 3:32.59 to win the 4x400m Relay ahead of Wheaton North (3:35.96).

 

It was a family affair in the 3200 Meter Run as Micah Wilson cruised to the win in the 3200 Meter Run (10:04.26) ahead of his sophomore brother Jedidiah (10:06.45). It was closer in the 1600 Meter Run as Micah Wilson ran 4:23.67 for the win edging Michael Atkins of Wheaton-Warrenville South (4:23.77) by a tenth of a second. Ryan Schreiner of Wheaton North claimed the conference title in the 800 Meter Run (1:57.20) ahead of Batavia’s Quintin Lowe (1:58.48).

 

Paolo Gennarelli of St. Charles North achieved a personal best of 59-9 (IL #3) to win the Shot Put. Gennarelli only won by two inches ahead of Cooper Cerese of Lake Park (59-9, IL #4). Desmond Horton of Lake Park was a double winner in the horizontal jumps. Horton jumped 22-8.5 (IL #4) to win the Long Jump more than a foot ahead of Batavia’s Jalen Buckley (21-6). Horton came back to jump 45-10 to win the Triple Jump.

 

Big 12 Conference Boys Indoor Championships

 

Normal West scored 138 points for the conference title ahead of crosstown rival Normal Community (92 points). Evan Lowder of Normal Community won the 400 Meter Dash (52.37) and the 200 Meter Dash (23.12). Jerome Cranford of Peoria Manual ran 7.02 (IL #10) to in the 60 Meter Dash ahead of Normal West’s Jonovan Findley (7.12) and Charlie Nolan (7.15). Chris Taylor of Normal Community cleared a personal best of 6-6.75 (IL #4) to win the High Jump. Normal West’s Nolan and Findley both cleared 6-4.75 to finish second and third. Taylor also jumped 21-2.75 to win the Long Jump. Alex Sohn of Normal Community won the Shot Put (57-7.25) two days after earning All-American honors in New York.

 

Byron Boys Invitational

 

Camden Foesch of Dakota ran 6.60 to win the 55 Meter Dash. He was on his team’s quartet that ran 1:38.02 (1A #10) to win the 4x200m Relay. Brock Loftus of Amboy was a double winner on the track with a 10:22.31 time to win the 3200 Meter Run by 18 seconds. Loftus came back to run 4:48.38 to win the 1600 Meter Run. Grant Milbrath of Pecatonica had a 54-4 (1A #3) best to win the Shot Put.

 

CCL Indoor Championships

 

Loyola Academy and St. Ignatius Prep tied for the team title with 110 points Friday evening at Gately Park. St. Ignatius thought they had lost by one point. An unexpected eighth place finish from Steven Hinton in the Triple Jump in the final event of the night got them even with the Ramblers.

 

Spencer Werner of Loyola picked up two wins in the distance events. Four runners went under two-minutes in the 800 Meter Run with Werner winning (1:56.10) ahead of Lee O’Bryan of Fenwick (1:57.91, IL #7), Charlie Richardson of DePaul Prep (1:59.26), and Zach Kiley of St. Ignatius Prep (1:59.38). Loyola swept the first two spots in the 1600 Meter Run with Werner picking up his second win (4:21.76) with teammate Aidan Simon finishing second (4:26.53). Grayden Rill of Fenwick finished third (4:28.48). Simon was part of Loyola’s quartet that ran 8:18.50 to win the 4x800m Relay ahead of St. Ignatius Prep (8:22.06) and DePaul Prep (8:25.47).

 

EJ Nwagwu of St. Rita ran 50.82 (IL #10) to win the 400 Meter Dash ahead of Austin Cabanban of Loyola Academy (51.30). The two faced again in the 200 Meter Dash with Nwagwu again winning in 22.36 (IL #3) ahead of Cabanban (22.79). Nwagwu’s teammate Wayne Conley II gave St. Rita the sweep in the sprints as he ran 7.10 to win the 60 Meter Dash.

 

Isaac Rice of St. Ignatius Prep was also a multiple event winner clearing 6-1.5 to win the High Jump and jumping 21-0.75 to win the Long Jump.

 

CSL North Boys Indoor Championships

 

Deerfield captured the conference title with 137 points. Niles North (115 points) and Highland Park (113 points) finished second and third. Highland Park’s Nate Wehner was a double winner in the 3200 Meter Run (9:46.97) and the 1600 Meter Run (4:32.85). David Mun of Vernon Hills had a 52-9 mark to win the Shot Put.

 

CSL South Boys Indoor Championships

 

Glenbrook South edged Evanston 137-136 for the team title. New Trier scored 94 points to finish second. Nathan Shapiro of Glenbrook South ran 6.71 to win the 55 Meter Dash and 23.47 to win the 200 Meter Dash just ahead of Vorn Ellis of Evanston (23.55). Shapiro finished second in the Long Jump (20-5.75) behind teammate Ryan Schaffer (20-9.5). Shapiro’s third win came when he ran 7.46 to win the 55m Low-Hurdles. Matt Cless of Evanston cleared 6-6.75 to win the High Jump. Brian Hiltebrand of Glenbrook South easily won the 800 Meter Run (2:00.11) by more than four seconds ahead of teammate Brendan Tanaka (2:04.44)

 

D117 Boys March Madness

 

Hampshire ran 8:18.19 to win the 4x800m Relay ahead of Grayslake Central (8:19.76) and Crystal Lake Central (8:23.49). Rockford Christian swept the first three places in the 800 Meter Run with Ethan Walsh winning (2:02.91) ahead of teammates Adison Elliott (2:03.85) and Aidan Sosnowski (2:04.79). Richmond-Burton claimed the win in the 4x400m Relay (3:33.95) with Rockford Christian running 3:35.09 to finish second. Paul Migas of Lakes improved on his personal best clearing 15-4.25 (IL #4) to win the Pole Vault.

 

Fox Valley Conference Boys Championships

 

Burlington Central scored 87 points to win the conference championship Tuesday. Host Huntley (73 points) and Dundee-Crown (71 points) finished second and third. Yusuf Baig of Burlington Central was a double winner running 9:46.75 in the 3200 Meter Run and 4:28.83 to win the 1600 Meter Run.

 

Upstate 8 Boys Indoor Championships

 

South Elgin claimed the team title with 161 points ahead of Glenbard South (86 points) and Glenbard East (75.5 points). South Elgin’s Konrad Sacha was a double winner running 52.10 to win the 400 Meter Dash and 23.41 to win the 200 Meter Dash. Alonso Perkins of Glenbard East also picked up two titles running 6.69 to win the 55 Meter Dash and jumping 22-3 (IL #5 tie) to win the Long Jump.

 

WSC-Gold Conference Boys Indoor Championships

 

Downers Grove South scored 181 points to win the conference title Friday night ahead of host Morton (125 points). Elijah Reed led the Mustangs winning the 55 Meter Dash (6.63) and the 200 Meter Dash (22.96) ahead of teammate Kenny Creamer (23.38), and the 400 Meter Dash (53.70). Tim Neumann helped South winning the 800 Meter Run (2:02.36) by over 11 seconds. Neumann came back to run 4:28.59 to win the 1600 Meter Run ahead of Morton’s Alex Bacci (4:31.98) and Daniel Chavez (4:32.01). The two Morton runners ran together in the 3200 Meter Run with Bacci winning (9:42.02) ahead of Chavez (9:43.01).

 

GIRLS MEETS

 

WSC-Silver Conference Girls Indoor Championships

 

It came down to the 4x400m Relay to decide a winner for the team championship. York took home the win in that race with a 4:07.56 (IL #5) time. It was Hinsdale Central’s second-place finish in 4:08.54 (IL #8) that sealed the deal for the Red Devilettes and a conference championship. Hinsdale Central edged York 110-107 for the conference championship. Lyons Township scored 100 points to finish third.

 

The distance races again were spectacular on Friday night at Proviso West. It was close in the 4x800m Relay with Downers Grove North running 9:38.02 (IL #3) for the win ahead of Lyons Township (9:39.45, IL #5) and York (9:47.33). Sarah Fischer of Hinsdale Central took the lead at 1200-meters into the 3200 Meter Run pushing the pace. It resulted with three runners all under 11-minutes. York’s Katelyn Winton won the conference title in 10:48.57 (IL #5) ahead of teammate Bria Bennis who ran 10:52.38 (IL #8) and Fischer who ran 10:55.30 (IL #10). It was extremely close in the 800 Meter Run as Catie McCabe of Hinsdale Central ran 2:18.59 to win just six hundredths of a second ahead of York’s Brooke Berger and her 2:18.65 time (IL #10). Berger, in her second meet of the season, anchored her team’s 4x4. She also ran 5:06.34 to win the 1600 Meter Run with teammate Katherine Klimek at 5:08.48 finishing second.

 

Maya Reed of Hinsdale Central edged Emma Kwak of Lyons Township by one hundredth of a second to win the 55 Meter Dash. Reed’s winning time was 7.48. Reed came back to jump 35-0 to win the Triple Jump.

 

DuPage Valley Conference Girls Indoor Championships

 

The win by Naperville North in the 4x400 Meter Relay (4:09.80) secured the conference championship for the Huskies with 138 points. Naperville Central, who finished third in that relay, was 1 point behind their cross town rival scoring 137 points. Metea Valley finished third (114 points).  

 

It was those battles all night that defined this meet for Naperville North. The Huskies ran 9:54.76 to win the 4x800m Relay just ahead of Central (9:55.95). Naperville North’s Emma Berres (5:07.77) and Julie Piot (5:07.78) finished 1-2 in the 1600 Meter Run with Naperville Central’s Liv Phillips running 5:17.79 to finish third. This was Berres’ final meet of the season. The freshman will be playing soccer during the spring for the school’s team. Berres earlier in the meet ran 2:19.59 to win the 800 Meter run with teammate Jackie Liu second (2:20.95).

 

Carissa Hamilton of Neuqua Valley won the conference title in her first high school track meet in the 3200 Meter Run. Hamilton ran 11:11.45 for the win with Sarah Maggio of Metea Valley finishing second (11:19.74). Madeline Andelbradt ran on North’s 4x4 team and also cleared 5-3 to win the High Jump.

 

DuKane Girls Indoor Championships

 

Batavia claimed the conference title on their home track scoring 145 points. Wheaton-Warrenville South scored 108 points to finish second. Jessica Newburn of Batavia swept all three sprint events. The senior started by running 7.52 to win the 55 Meter Dash ahead of Lake Park’s Martina Latora (7.60). Newburn followed by running 1:01.31 to win the 400 Meter Dash ahead of Wheaton-Warrenville South’s Sydney Anton (1:02.28). Newburn’s final win came when she ran 26.51 in the 200 Meter Dash. Wheaton-Warrenville South ran a season’s best of 1:47.30 (IL #10) to win the 4x200m Relay by almost three seconds.

 

Grace Schager of Glenbard North ran 10:53.98 to win the 3200 Meter Run ahead of Batavia’s Katrina Schlenker (11:18.49). Schager completed the distance double running 5:03.84 to win the 1600 Meter Run finishing ahead of Schlenker (5:09.25) and Wheaton-Warrenville South freshman Nicole Poglitsch (5:21.66). Poglitsch was also a part of her team’s quartet that ran 9:52.20 to win the 4x800m Relay. Annie Macabobby, who ran in that relay, came back to run 2:21.42 to win the 800 Meter Run ahead of St. Charles East’s Amelia Bellizzi (2:22.40).

 

Martina Latora won two field events jumping a personal bests of 17-6.75 to win the Long Jump and 36-5.5 in her Triple Jump win.

 

Southwest Suburban Conference Girls Indoor Championships

 

Lincoln-Way East was in full control to score 160 points to again win the conference title. Lockport (98 points) and Homewood-Flossmoor (93 points) finished second and third. Mariam Azeez led the Griffins with two individual wins. Azeez ran the state’s fastest time in the state (7.57) to win the 60 Meter Dash ahead of Homewood-Flossmoor’s Alexandria Edison (7.72). Azeez jumped 19-1.25 too win the Long Jump with Edison again finishing second (18-6). Third time was a charm for Edison as she ran a state leading 24.75 to win the 200 Meter Dash. Azeez also ran under 25-seconds with a 24.79 time (IL #2) to finish second. Jailee Clemmons of Lincoln-Way East jumped 36-0 to win the Triple Jump.

 

Gianna Arizzi of Lincoln Way West (11:42.53) in the 3200 Meter Run, Caroline Schoen of Homewood-Flossmoor (5:09.58) in the 1600 Meter Run, and Daija Brown of Homewood-Flossmoor (2:23.55) in the 800 Meter Run were distance event winners.

 

Big 12 Conference Girls Championships

 

Normal Community edged Bloomington 107-100 for the conference title. The main reason for Normal’s win was the presence in this meet from Ali Ince. 24 hours before, Ince was at the New Balance Indoor Nationals earning All-American honors in the 800 Meter Run and also running in the 1 Mile Run. The sophomore came back Monday night to run 2:16.91 to easily win the 800 Meter Run by 19 seconds. Ince at the end of the meet anchored her team to a 4:07.77 (IL #7) to win the 4x400m Relay by an incredible 22 seconds.

 

Bloomington Raider Girls Invitational

 

This was one of the last meets at the Shirk Center before next weekend’s Illinois Top Times Championships. Lillianna Ifft of Bloomington had the top performance of Saturday in this meet clearing a personal best of 12-8.75 (IL #2) to win the Pole Vault with St. Joseph-Ogden’s Payton Carter (11-1, 1A #5) and Grace Schmitz (10-9.25) finishing second and third. Grace Alongi of DuQuoin was a double winner in this meet jumping 32-5 to win the Triple Jump and running 1:02.00 (1A #4) to win the 400 Meter Dash.

 

Byron Girls Invitational

 

Isabella Orozco of Aurora Central Catholic won a tight 800 meter Run race (2:25.92) ahead of Winnebago’s Grace Erb (2:27.69). Hannah Logan of Winnebago had a 36-5.75 personal best (1A #5) to win the Shot Put.

 

Burlington Central Girls Indoor Classic

 

This meet on Saturday was one more chance to get an indoor meet in either before the outdoor season or before Top Times. Dominique Johnson of Huntley had a big day establishing a new Illinois lead in the Triple Jump. The freshman jumped 40-9.25 (US #5) to win the Triple Jump. She surpassed her sister Alexandria in the rankings who has jumped 40-7.5 last week at her conference meet. Lianna Surtz of Rosary turned in a great double win. Surtz ran 10:50.52 (IL #7) to win the 3200 Meter Run ahead of a personal best from Louisa Diamond of Benet Academy (10:50.52, 2A #3). Surtz’s time is second fastest in Class 2A. The Rosary senior came back to run 5:05.46 to win the 600 Meter Run with Heather Durrant of Larkin running 5:10.29 to finish second. Alexandria Johnson of Huntley tied for the state lead in the Long Jump with a 19-5.5 mark to win the event. Zawadi Brown of Neuqua Valley jumped 18-5.25 (IL #5) to finish second. The two met up in the 60 Meter Dash with Johnson winning in 7.88 ahead of Brown’s 7.98. Brown came back to run 25.82 to win the 200 Meter Dash.

 

CSL North Girls Indoor Championships

 

Vernon Hills won the north league title Thursday night with 156 points Highland Park was second (91 points). Anna Todd of Vernon Hills ran 5:29.69 on this Niles West track to win the title in the 1600 Meter Run.

 

CSL South Girls Indoor Championships

 

New Trier scored 138 points to win the south league title ahead of Maine South (108 points) and Glenbrook South (107 points). Hayden Nelson of Glenbrook South ran 6.93 to win the 50 Meter Dash and 26.69 to win the 200 Meter Dash. New Trier ran 9:40.43 (IL #6) to win the 4x800m Relay with Maine South at 9:43.46 (IL #8) to finish second. Abigail Milott of Glenbrook South won the Long Jump (16-10) and the Triple Jump (35-4.5).

 

D117 Girls March Madness

 

Brooke Johnston of Lake Zurich almost lapped the field in running 5:00.01 to win the 1600 Meter Run finishing 32 seconds ahead of second-place Kelly Giardina of Rockford Christian (5:32.88). Mia Morello of Grayslake Central had another meet where she achieved winning multiple events. Morello cleared 12-2 to win the Pole Vault. She came back to run 9.22 in winning the 60 Meter Hurdles. Kylie Spytek of Vernon Hills was also a multiple event winner running 8.01 to win the 60 Meter Dash and 26.71 to win the 200 Meter Dash. Abrielle Artley of Evanston, who finished second in the 200, ran 59.20 (IL #10) to win the 400 Meter Dash. Jordyn Miller of Mundelein won the 800 Meter Run (2:19.84) to finish ahead of Alyssa Moore of McHenry (2:20.94).

 

GCAC Indoor Championships

 

Loyola Academy dominated this meet Sunday at Gately Park scoring 200 points for the conference win. Mother McAuley was the closest team scoring 81 points to finish second. Morgan Mackie led the Lady Ramblers winning the 800 Meter Run (2:24.96) and the 1600 Meter Run (5:18.33).

 

Normal West Girls Invitational

 

Ali Ince of Normal Community broke the meet record in the 400 Meter Dash and ran the second fastest time in the process. Ince’s time of 56.27 was over two seconds ahead of Sophia Yaklich of Bloomington Central Catholic who ran 58.35 (IL #6).

 

Southwest Prairie Conference Indoor Championships

 

Minooka edged Oswego 80-76 to win the conference title. Plainfield North scored 54 points to finish third. Tessani Foster of Plainfield Central cleared a state leading 12-9 to win the Pole Vault. Oswego’s Emma Ponx (11-6) and Gwen Berenyi (10-9) finished second and third. Courtney Clabough of Yorkville won the Shot Put with a 37-10 put.

 

Minooka ran 9:38.31 (IL 34) to win the 4x800m Relay with Plainfield North running 9:46.55 to finish second. Oswego’s Audra Soderlind was a double inner in the distances. Soderlind ran 11:15.56 to win the 3200 Meter Run finishing ahead of Minooka’s Gabriella McCollom (11:26.44) and Jocelyn Host (11:33.74). Soderlind came back to run 5:16.66 to win the 1600 Meter Run with Cassie Fuhrman of Minooka finishing second (5:23.55). Lauren Dellangelo of Plainfield North ran 2:24.17 to edge Sydney Williams of Oswego East (2:24.84) to win the 800 Meter Run.

 

Upstate 8 Girls Indoor Championships

 

South Elgin edged Glenbard East 131-124 for the conference title. Naomi Ruff of South Elgin was a double winner in the 800 Meter Run (2:24.54) and the 1600 Meter Run (5:11.25). Ruff started the meet by anchoring her team to the win in the 4x800m Relay (10:16.48). Keeli Dunaway of Glenbard East won both the Long Jump (18-0.25) and the Triple Jump (36-7.25). Kali Waller of West Chicago ran 7.40 to win the 55 Meter Dash and 27.40 to win the 200 Meter Dash. Waller also finished second in the 200 Meter Dash.

 

WSC-Gold Conference Girls Indoor Championships

 

It was once again Downers Grove South that was in command of this conference meet. The Mustangs scored 178 points to easily win ahead of Willowbrook (96.5 points) and Hinsdale South (81.5 points) finishing second and third. Holly Johnson of Downers Grove South picked up a double win in the middle distances. The freshman ran 2:24.96 to win the 800 Meter Run by more than 11 seconds. Johnson came back to run 1:02.78 to win the 400 Meter Dash by more than a second. Johnson also anchored her team to a win in the 4x400m Relay (4:29.54). DGS swept the distance races with Kelsey Casella wining both the 3200 Meter run (12:00.18) and the 1600 Meter Run (5:36.58).

 

CO-ED MEETS

 

CPS Indoor Championships

 

Lane Tech captured the Boys City team title Saturday at Gately Park dominating with 112 points for the win. Kenwood (74 points) and Payton (56 points) finished second and third. Kenwood was just as dominant in winning the Girls City Championship with 107 points. Whitney Young was the closest scoring 88 points to finish second.

 

The sprints headlined the Girls meet with three top 10 times achieved in the 60 Meter Dash. Lindsey Miller of Simeon ran 7.66 (IL #2) to win a close final race in the 60 Meter Dash ahead of Jaliyah Shepherd of Kenwood (7.68, IL #3), Symone Frison of Lindblom (7.75, IL #8 tie), and Sydney Weaver of Kenwood (7.86). Weaver earlier in the meet jumped 35-10 to win the Triple Jump. Miller came back in the 200 Meter Dash to run 25.41 (IL #3) for the win ahead of London Gibson-Purcell of Whitney Young (25.61, IL #4 tie), Weaver in third (25.61, IL #4 tie), and Jayden Eickhoff-Brown of Whitney Young running 25.66 (IL #7) to finish fourth. Miller earlier in the Long Jump jumped 18-3 for the win ahead of Shepherd (17-11.25).

 

Kenwood ran the fastest time in the state in the 4x200m Relay with a 1:42.74 winning time. Whitney Young in 1:45.82 (IL #5) finished second. Kenwood came back to run 4:07.63 (IL #6) to win the 4x400m Relay. Asia Thomas, who was part of Kenwood’s 4x4 team, ran earlier 56.77 (IL #3) to win the 400 Meter Dash by almost 3 seconds ahead of teammate Harmony Brown (59.27) and Lane Tech’s Katie Burns (59.36). Northside Prep ran the fastest time in Class 2A (9:51.58) to win the 4x800m Relay. Elia Ton That, who ran a 2:16.9 split in that relay, came back to run 2:17.78 to win the 800 Meter Run.

 

Joseph Spaulding of ML King was king of the city sprints running 7.14 to win the 60 Meter Dash. John Green of Agricultural Science ran 22.60 (IL #8) to win the 600 Meter Dash. Jack Klein of Lane Tech ran 1:59.05 to win a close 800 Meter Run ahead of Taft’s Michael Polizzi (1:59.12). Will Kozlowski of Lane Tech pulled away to win the 1600 Meter Run (4:24.55) ahead of Sam Berlinghof of Jones Prep (4:27.97).

 

Lane Tech ran 8:16.03 to win the 4x800m Relay ahead of Jones Prep (8:19.36). Kenwood ran 3:31.33 (IL #6) to win the 4x400m Relay ahead of Lane Tech that ran 3:32.27 (IL #10) to finish second. Kenwood earlier in the meet ran 1:32.03 (IL #7) to win the 4x200m Relay finishing ahead of Lane Tech and their 1:32.38 time (IL #8).

 

Silver Streak Last Chance @ Monmouth

 

Jettason Rose of Quincy improved her personal best in the 200 Meter Dash running 22.62 (IL #9) for the win. Wilson Georges of Limestone had an easy time in winning the 1600 Meter Run (4:18.70) by 28 seconds ahead of Elmwood’s Thomas Harmon (4:46.03). Harmon earlier in the meet ran 2:02.79 to win the 800 Meter Run. Blake Orwig of Stark County achieved a personal best of 51-0.5 (1A #5) in winning the Shot Put. Adreian Roper of East Moline United and Teegan Davis of Princeton achieved a personal bests of 6-6 (IL #4 tie) in the High Jump. Roper won the event on fewer misses. Roper also jumped 20-8.75 to win the Long Jump again ahead of Davis (20-5.25).

 

Ali Rapps of Geneseo was one of the double winners in the Girls Meet. Rapps ran a personal best of 9.20 (IL #8) to win the 60m Hurdles. Rapps came back to run 1:01.19 (2A #4) to win the 400 Meter Dash by more than three seconds. Anna Scheuring of Quincy won two distance races running 2:23.16 to win the 800 Meter Run and 5:24.17 to win the 1600 Meter Run. Lindley Johnson of Stark County cleared 5-4.25 (1A #2) to win the High Jump.

 

Comet Classic Invitational

 

This meet at Reed-Custer was the season’s debut for defending 1A sprint state champion Tony Phillips of Kankakee McNamara. The sophomore ran 7.17 in the prelims of the 60 Meter Dash, then came back in the finals to run 7.06 (1A #3) for the win. Phillips was also part of his team that ran 1:38.36 to win the 4x200m Relay. Luke Jelderks of Chicago Christian won the Long Jump (21-1.25) to win the Long Jump and then run 24.20 to win the 200 Meter Dash. Michael Doll of Westmont won both the 60 Meter Hurdles (9.41) and the Triple Jump (41-8).

 

Kiara Wesseh of Newark was a double winner in the Girls Meet. The sophomore cleared 5-1 (1A #7 tie) to win the High Jump. She ran 10.12 in the prelims, 10.23 in the finals to win the 60 Meter Hurdles.

 

Gene Armer Invitational @ U of I Armory

 

Kankakee once again showed their sprint stuff like they have all indoor season in this meet. Naomi Bey-Osborne of Kankakee ran 25.65 (IL #6) to win the Girls 200 Meter Dash. Bey-Osborne was on the Kankakee quartet that ran 1:44.18 (IL #2) to edge Evanston (1:44.98) for the 4x200m Relay win. Evanston ran the state’s fastest time of 4:04.22 to win the 4x400m Relay ahead of Kankakee running 4:07.31 (IL#4) to finish second. Brianna Dixon of Rantoul ran 8.86 (IL #2) to win the 60 Meter Hurdles. Olivia Whatley of Evanston had a 39-11.5 personal best (IL #4) to win the Shot Put. Ali Ince of Normal Community ran a solo 4:57.26 to win the 1600 Meter Run by 32 seconds ahead of Hannah Meiser of Civic Memorial (5:29.33).

 

Jayden Morrow of Kankakee again had some good performances in the Boys portion of this meet. Morrow ran 7.07 to edge Skylar Giles of Peoria Richwoods (7.11) to win the 60 Meter Dash. Morrow was part of Kankakee’s team that ran 1:31.66 to win the 4x200 Meter Relay winning by more three seconds ahead of Triad (1:34.91). Kankakee, with Morrow on the quartet, ran 3:31.89 to win the 4x400m Relay.

 

Jadon Robertson of Cowden-Herrick jumped 21-9.5 (1A #2) to win the Long Jump. He came back to run 8.24 (IL #3 tie) to win the 60 Meter Hurdles by six hundredths of a second ahead of DeWayne Johnson of Pontiac (8.30). Bryson Wilson of Marion ran 51.4 (2A #5) to win the 400 Meter Dash. Alex Sohn of Normal Community had a 60-1.75 mark to win the Shot Put ahead of Daniel Lucas of Cowden-Herrick (55-6.25). Chris Taylor of Normal Community cleared 6-5.5 to in the High Jump.

 

Heart of Illinois Conference Indoor Championships

 

Cambria Geyer of Tremont was a triple event winner in the Girls Meet. Geyer ran 9.23 to win the 60 Meter Hurdles by more than a second. She came right back to run 8.06 (1A #3) to win the 60 Meter Dash ahead of Taylor Jones of Tri-Valley (8.23). Geyer later ran 26.79 (1A #3) to win the 200 Meter Dash. Delaney Fitzgerald of Normal University dominated the 3200 Meter Run running 11:15.00 (2A #4) to win the race by 35 seconds. Anna Perry of Eureka also ran solo with a 5:34.84 time to win the 1600 Meter Run winning by 51 seconds.

 

Luke Myszka of Tri-Valley won both the 60 Meter Hurdles (8.46) and the 200 Meter Dash (23.64).

 

Nagel-Saylor (MSL) Indoor Invitational

 

Prospect swept the team titles in this meet Saturday at North Central College. Prospect’s Girls team won 149.5 to out distance Barrington (89.5) for the Girls team title. Hersey and Fremd tied for third with 59 points. Prospect also won the Boys title (142 points) ahead of Hersey (75 points), Barrington (70.5 points), and Schaumburg (69 points).

 

Daria Tersina of Prospect was the star of the Girls meet winning three events and finishing second in another. Tersina jumped 38-8.5 to win the Triple Jump with Kiera White of Fremd who leaped 36-5.75 (IL #9) to finish second. White jumped 18-4.5 (IL #7 tie) to win the Long Jump with Tersina jumping 17-3.75 to finish second. The Prospect senior ran 7.40 to win the 55 Meter Dash and then her final win in the 200 Meter Dash (26.37).

 

Audrey Ginsberg of Prospect ran 2:21.17 to win the 800 Meter Run. Ashley Oliver of Hoffman Estates ran 58.84 (IL #7) to win the 400 Meter Dash with Ginsberg doubling back from the 800 to finish second in 59.09 (IL #9). Scout Storms of Barrington ran 5:08.71 to win the 1600 Meter Run edging Lily Ginsberg of Prospect by less than a second (5:09.43). Prospect’s Hailey Erickson finished third (5:10.28).

 

DaSharr Scott of Hoffman Estates cleared 6-7 (IL #3) to win the Boys High Jump. Dominik Balenda of Prospect ran 50.65 to win the 400 Meter Dash by more than a second. Balenda came back to run 23.06 to win the 200 Meter Dash ahead of Omarion Jones of Schaumburg (23.16). Jones earlier ran 6.57 to win the 55 Meter Dash edging Will Stewart of Fremd by two hundredths of a second. Sean Safford of Hersey won the 3200 Meter Run (9:30.88) ahead of TJ Garland of Prospect (9:36.56). Barrington swept the first two spots in the 1600 Meter Run with Zach Daniel with the win (4:23.81) ahead of teammate Joey Furlong (4:25.62).

 

NIC-10 Indoor Championships

 

Belvidere North won the Boys team title (138 points) ahead of Rockford East (108 points) and Hononegah (98 points). Rockford Guilford won the Girls championship (168 points) with Hononegah scoring 152 points to finish second.

 

Jolena Sites of Guilford headed the Girls Meet with two individual event wins. Sites and Essence Horton-Graves both ran 7.82 in the 60 Meter Dash with Sites winning on the photo finish review. The two finished again 1-2 in the 200 Meter Dash with Sites (26.38) again ahead of Horton-Graves (26.57). Marquez Gray of Rockford East ran 7.09 to win the 60 Meter Dash. Gray was part of his team’s quartet that ran 1:34.60 to win the 4x200m Relay. Javius Catlin of Rockford East was part of that relay. He also jumped 21-0.5 to win the Long Jump and ran 23.32 to win the 200 Meter Dash.

 

Sterling Warrior Invitational

 

Dale Johnson of Sterling was on his own in the 3200 Meter Run winning by almost two minutes and running 9:48.43 (2A #9). Alice Sotelo of Sterling was a double winner jumping 15-0 in the Long Jump and 34-5 in the Triple Jump win.
