3A BOYS

Congratulations to Marcellus Moore of Plainfield North High School in Plainfield as the 2019 ILXCTF.com 2A Boys Athlete of the Year.

It was closer than expected in this category between Moore and Sam Liokumovich of Deerfield High School. Liokumovich was untouchable in the Shot Put winning the 3A State title in the event and then finishing third in the New Balance Outdoor Nationals. Moore was close to state records in running 10.36 for 100-meters and 20.89 for 200-meters during the season. A hamstring injury slowed Moore down right before the state meet but he was still able to defend his state championships for both events. His 200 Meter Dash race will go down as one of the most memorable as his hamstring acted up in the final 50-meters. He was still able to cross the line ahead of the rest of the field.

Andrew O’Keefe of Granite City was also considered in this category.

2A BOYS

Congratulations to Finnigan Schirmer of Marengo High School as the 2019 ILXCTF.com 2A Boys Track & Feld Athlete of the Year.

Schirmer had a banner junior season winning state championships in the 100 Meter Dash, 110 High Hurdles, and the 300 Intermediate Hurdles. He also earned all-state honors by finishing fourth in the 200 Meter Dash. Schirmer has earned seven all-state honors in the past two seasons.

Hunter Hendershot of Mahomet-Seymour was also considered in this category. Hendershot defended his state title in the Class 2A Shot Put as well as winning the 2A State title in the Discus for the first time.

1A BOYS

Congratulations to Kyle Kruthoff of Erie High School as the 2019 ILXCTF.com 1A Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Kruthoff won his second straight 1A state championship in the Pole Vault. He cleared a personal best of 16-8 established a new Class 1A state meet record in the event.

Mason Barr of Colfax Ridgeview, who won both the Class 1A State titles for the 110 High Hurdles, and 300 Hurdles, and Cody Klein of Pana, who won both the Class 1A State titles for the100 Meter Dash and 200 Meter Dash, were both considered in this category.
