Lincoln-Way East scored in three of their four relays helping them win the IHSA Class 3A Girls State Championship on June 12. The team depth to get the baton around the track also allowed them to finish on top of the ILXCTF.com Illinois High School Relay Rankings for the 2021 season.

The Griffins were ranked among the top 10 teams in the 4x100m Relay and the 4x400m Relay. Their 4x800m Relay team was ranked 11th overall.

Whether it was parody of the teams this season or the effects of no track season in 2020, the scores were closer than in any other year. Lincoln-Way East scored the lowest point total (156 points) since the rankings were started in 2013.

Evanston Township finished second with 145 points. The Lady Wildkits finished second also the last time these rankings were compiled in 2019.

Area rivals Wheaton-Warrenville South and Naperville North finished third and fourth. The Lady Tigers scored 139 points to finish third. It is also the first time that South has finished in the top five in the history of these rankings. Naperville North’s point total was 137 points.

Homewood-Flossmoor scored 125 points to finish fifth overall.

This is the third time that Lincoln-Way East has landed on top of these rankings. They were also first in 2015 and 2016.

Geneseo was the only 2A school to finish in the top 20 as they tied for ninth overall. There were no other 1A or 2A schools that finished among the top 20 schools.

The DuPage Valley Conference, the Southwest Suburban Blue Division, and the DuKane Conference each had two schools finish in the top 10. The DuKane Conference and the Central Suburban South Division had three schools finish among the top 20.

The ILXCTF.com (formally the DyeStat Illinois) Relay Rankings are based off the DyeStat TFX Leaderboards on Athletic.net (as of June 19, 2021) for the four relays that are contested at the IHSA State Track & Field Meet. In the All Class, 3A, 2A, and 1A categories, the top 50 quartets are ranked with 50 points given to the fastest school down to 1 point for the 50th fastest.
