It came down to a final relay to determine the Class 3A State Championship as Neuqua Valley was two points ahead of Minooka for the IHSA title. The finish showed how important that the relay events in a championship situation can influence who can be on top.

The tables turned when compiling the relay rankings. The outcome was just as close.

Minooka placed all four of their relays in the top 11 overall to place on top of the overall relay rankings with 186 points. 3A State Champion Neuqua Valley scored 183 points to finish second. Minooka had their 4x100m Relay, 4x200m Relay, and 4x800m Relay among the top three schools. Neuqua Valley had all four relays ranked in the first eight schools including their 3A State championship team in the 4x800m Relay.

Oak Park-River Forest finished third with 150 points. Edwardsville had three-time individual champion Brandon Battle run on their relays but only qualified the 4x800m Relay to state. The Tigers still finished fourth with 143 points. 2019 Overall Relay Rankings champion Batavia finished fifth with 141 points.

Class 2A schools had their influence in the overall rankings with five schools among the top 20. 2A State Champion Mascoutah was the top 2A school as they finished ninth.

The Southwest Prairie was the only conference that had multiple schools in the top 10 with Minooka, Plainfield South (8th), and Plainfield North (10th). The DuPage Valley Conference, Southwest Conference,  and the WSC-Silver had two schools among the top 20.

This is the second time that Minooka had found themselves on top of the Relay Rankings. The first is when this program was started in 2013. It was the second highest point total since Minooka scored 187 points in the inaugural rankings.

The ILXCTF.com (formally the DyeStat Illinois) Relay Rankings are based off the DyeStat TFX Leaderboards on Athletic.net (as of June 19, 2021) for the four relays that are contested at the IHSA State Track & Field Meet. In the All Class, 3A, 2A, and 1A categories, the top 50 quartets are ranked with 50 points given to the fastest school down to 1 point for the 50th fastest.
