2023 ILXCTF.com Illinois HS Relay Rankings - Boys Schools

Homewood-Flossmoor’s relays gets them state title; clinches as top Boys relay program for 2023

By Michael Newman

The dominance of the Homewood-Flossmoor relays showed throughout the season and were on display in the IHSA 3A Boys State Track & Field Championships. The Vikings were the overall 3A team state champions boosted by state titles in the 4x100m Relay and 4x200m Relay as well as third in the 4x400m Relay.

The Vikings are named the 2023 ILXCTF.com Illinois HS Relay Champion with 184 points. Homewood-Flossmoor becomes the sixth school overall to be ranked a top of this rankings program and the first school from the Southwest Suburban Conference.

It was one of the most dominant performances in the rankings history. There was a 31.5 point margin before second-place Oak Park-River Forest who scored 152.5 points.

Southwestern Conference schools Edwardsville (135 points) and East St. Louis-Senior (127 points) finished third and fourth. York was the second WSC-Silver school to place in the top five as they scored 125 points. The WSC-Silver placed four schools in the top 20 with Hinsdale Central (9th) and Downers Grove North (20th).

This was the lowest overall point total in the history of these rankings. Only eight schools scored 100 points or more in 2023. 13 schools were over 100 points in 2022. Part of it had to do with some of the programs focusing on two of the relays when they got closer to the state series.

For Homewood-Flossmoor, they had the fastest Boys time in the state in the 4x100m and 4x200m Relay, sixth in the 4x400m Relay, and twelfth in the 4x800m Relay.

The Class 2A schools had the biggest presence in the overall history with five schools overall in the top 20, with four schools among the top 11. East St. Louis-Senior was followed by Sterling (6th), Urbana (8th), and Herrin (11th).

The ILXCTF.com (formally the DyeStat Illinois) Relay Rankings are based off the DyeStat TFX Leaderboards on Athletic.net (as of May 27, 2023) for the four relays that are contested at the IHSA State Track & Field Meet. In the All Class, 3A, 2A, and 1A categories, the top 50 quartets are ranked with 50 points given to the fastest school down to 1 point for the 50th fastest.
