Class 1A Girls Notes – There are not that many big changes in this week’s rankings with Paxton-Buckley-Loda jumping back into the top 30 after one week out because of a good race at the St. Joseph-Ogden Spartan Classic. Tolono Unity moves up one spot, Monticello switches spots with the Rockets after the team’s finished 1-2 at SJO. Father McGivney moved into the top 10 at #9. Rockford Christian jumps back into the top 30 at #21 after their race at Duck Pond Meet in Wisconsin. Winnebago is a solid #1. The gap actually grew bigger between Bago and the next 5 teams in the rankings.

Class 1A Girls – September 22, 2021

Class 1A Girls Notes – There were no changes in the first 10 spots in this classification. Winnebago has a solid hold on the #1 spot. Monticello finished 12th last week at Peoria. The Lady Sages inched their way closer to Bago. DePaul Prep moved up 8 spots to #12 after a strong race in Peoria. 4 teams move into the top 30 this week led by Mercer County (#19) after winning last week at Bureau Valley. Illinois Valley Central, who finished behind Mercer County, makes their seasonal debut at #25. Sherrard returns at #27. Robinson makes their debut in the top 30 at #28. Sectional assignments came out last Thursday. The sectional at St. Teresa had the most ranked teams (8) followed by Elmwood (7), Lisle (6), Oregon (5), and Trenton-Wesclin (3).

Class 1A Girls – September 15, 2021

Class 1A Girls Notes – There is more of s foundation in the rankings especially at the top after last Saturday’s First to the Finish Invitational. Winnebago continues to have a stranglehold on the top spot after a strong win at FTTF even without one of their top five runners, Katie Erb, not racing. 3 runners in the top 8 in that race will give you more confidence. Tolono Unity moves back to #3 after a strong race in Peoria. Monticello stays at #2 after a strong race at Springfield. It will be interesting to compare Detweiller times since Monticello races there on Saturday. Eureka and Rosary remain in the top five. St. Joseph-Ogden had a strong showing in the 3A race at Detweiller. The Spartans remain at the #6 spot. IC Catholic Prep jumps into the top 10 after finishing sixth at FTTF. El Paso-Gridley had a strong race in Peoria and is the rankings top mover sliding from #27 up to #17. There are four teams that move into the Top 30 led by Chicago University and their race in Peoria.  Fithian Oakwood’s race at Paxton-Buckley-Loda moves them into #26. Tremont and Paxton-Buckley-Loda makes their first appearance in the 2021 rankings.

Class 1A Girls – September 7, 2021

1A Girls Notes – There is no change at the top in this class. Winnebago did not run half of their top seven at Oregon last Saturday but still stay at the top spot. They should be at full strength on Saturday at Peoria. Monticello stays at #2. Their strength up front of Estella Miller, Mabry Bruhn, and Rachel Koon will be a difference maker in big invitationals. Rosary has already run four meets early in their season and have looked good moving up two spots. Lianna Surtz leads this team. The addition of two freshmen to their top five has given them a boost. Eureka looked strong at the end of August at Meta and has jumped up two spots. Tolono Unity moved back two spots. If someone sneezes, they could move back top 2 or 3. That is how even this group is in the front, after Winnebago.

We stated at the beginning of the year this would be a wild season in the rankings. After the first nine spots, we could see a ton of changes. Stanford Olympia and Bloomington Central Catholic jumped into the first 15. IC Catholic Prep moved out of the top five but could be back soon with the return of one of their top runners Kennedy Calcagno.

Nine schools moved into the top 30 with Father McGivney (#14), Seneca (#17), and DePaul College Prep (#20)  all moved into the top 20.

8/23 1A Girls Notes – Normal University was in 2A in 2020; they were mistakenly moved to 1A for the 2021 season. Normal University was ranked in Class 1A. Mercer County moves into the top 30 at #30.
