Class 1A Noys Notes – Latin School solidifies the top spot in 1A after a great race at the Roy Griak Invitational. St. Joseph-Ogden’s convincing win in their home meet moves them up from #3 to #2. Rockford Christian had a strong race at the Duck Pond Invitational last Thursday. The Royal Lions move from #5 to #3. The top 30 is becoming more of a solid group with only three new schools a part of it this week. Bismarck Henning’s strong race at SJO moves them into #19. Robinson and Pinckneyville moved up not the top 30 in the final two spots

Class 1A Boys Notes – Latin School finished ahead of DePaul College Prep by one spot at the Richard Spring Invitational last Saturday. These two Chicago schools separated themselves from the rest of the Class 1A teams after that race. St. Joseph-Ogden split their team between the Varsity and Frosh/Soph races at Peoria and stay in the top five at #3. Benton made a big move in the top 10 this week. They had a good performance two weeks ago. Their win at Belleville Althoff was strong enough to move them up to #8. Three teams jump back into the top 30 after dropping out for one week. Newton moves into #19 followed by Shelbyville at #22 and Amboy at #26. The IHSA released the sectional assignments on Thursday. Six teams advance out each of the five sectionals. The Lisle Sectional and St. Teresa Sectional each have 9 ranked teams at their site. Elmwood has 6 ranked teams followed by Oregon and Trenton-Wesclin who each have 3 teams.

Class 1A Boys Notes – If you thought that Class 1A Boys was interesting at the start of the season, the races at Peoria this past weekend did not make things any clearer. Latin School adding Ryan Hardiman back in their lineup gave them 3 runners in the 10. The win at the First to the Finish Invitational catapults them into the top spot for this week. Olympia, Rockford Christian, and Hamilton-West Hancock all had good races in Peoria and are in the top five. Rockford Christian finished ahead of HWH in last week’s race. The strength up front for Hamilton led by Miles Sheppard flip flops the Peoria finish in the rankings. St. Joseph-Ogden looked strong in the 3A race in Peoria. Their times are good enough to move the team back into the #2 position. Arthur-Lovington dropped from the #1 position to #7 this week. They ran well enough to win at PBL last week. It was the fact that the teams ahead of them ran better on Saturday. They are missing one of their top five runners in which we accounted for when doing this ranking. If the runner still remains out, it could change how we look at this team in the rankings. Nevertheless, ALAH is a team that could win a state championship in November if healthy. 6 Teams move into the top 30 led by Pontiac at #12 and their strong race in Peoria. Urbana University at #24, Montini at #25, Tuscola at #26, Steeleville at #27, and Kankakee McNamara at #30 are first time teams in the 2021 rankings.

1A Boys Notes – We thought the rankings would be going through a wild ride this season. This classification gives us a good example of that. Elmwood dropped out of the top spot which in a way they will appreciate that. The Trojans will be back on top at the end of the season. For now, they move from #1 to #8 this week.

Arthur-Lovington moves up six spots to #1 for this week after a win at Clinton and then a strong race last Saturday at Charleston. The team has a strong top four but a gap in their top five could be a problem at state series time. Riverdale and Rockford Christian met last week at Oregon with Rockford Christian edging Riverdale for the win. Riverdale moves up one spot to #2 with a strong first three led by Tommy Murray. Rockford Christian moves up nine spots to #3.

Big surprises in the next two spots. DePaul Prep got great races from their Varsity and Frosh/Soph runners would have given them a 73 second split on their top five if they were together. That combination moved them from #22 to #4. Olympia made a similar jump to #5 with strong races at the Saber Corn Classic and last Friday at Normal.

Eight teams move into the 1A Boys’ top 30 this week led by St. Teresa at #6 after their strong opening race at Clinton. Benton and Northridge Prep also are new for 2021 moving into the top 20.
