Class 2A Girls – September 29, 2021 

Class 2A Girls Notes – No changes in the top five for this week. #1 Grayslake Central held out 2 of their top 5 at Palatine. #2 Vernon Hills had 1 of their top 7 run in the Frosh/Soph race at Palatine. Crystal Lake Central jumped into the top 10 at #6 with a great race at Palatine. Kaneland with their win at Rock River Run enters the top 30 at #29. Fenwick’s race at Palatine earns them an entry at #30 in this week’s rankings. There is a gap after the first 8 schools this week. The Crystal Lake schools could be interchanging in those spots as we head to conference week. The Woodstock North Sectional is ridiculously strong with 6 of the top 8 teams in the state all assigned to Emricson Park. 

Class 2A Girls – September 22, 2021

Class 2A Girls Notes – There were not too many changes at the top of Class 2A. The same schools that were in the top 10 last week stayed in that area with some minor changes. Dunlap moved up to #3 while Latin School dropped one spot to #4. Two schools made big jumps higher in the rankings. Peoria Notre Dame did not run their full squads in the Varsity and Frosh/Soph races at the Richard Spring Invitational. The combination of their performances moved the Irish from #24 to #12 this week. Northside Prep was the other big mover after their win at Whitney Young jumping from #26 to #13. Washington is the only new school in the rankings moving into #30 this week. The sectional assignments came out last Thursday and display where the power areas are in Class 2A. The Woodstock North Sectional remains the toughest sectional with 11 schools that are ranked. Seven schools from each sectional advance. Metamora (7), Decatur MacArthur (6), and Fenton (5) follow.

Class 2A Girls – September 15, 2021

Class 2A Girls Notes – Grayslake Central moves into the #1 position after their win at the First to the Finish Invitational last Saturday. The combination of a good front runner with Bella Domier and a strong pack makes them a title contender. Vernon Hills finished third at Peoria and drops out of the top spot. Latin School will run their full lineup this weekend in Peoria. The Romans finished 10th last week without Ava Parekh racing. Even though Dunlap ran their best race of the season with some great pack racing, the Eagles move to #4 up four spots. The first four spots in Class 2A are fluid. We expect more changes at the top spot in the weeks to come. Chatham-Glenwood tempoed their race at Springfield and stay in the top five. We get a better indication of this team in Peoria on Saturday. Nazareth Academy was the big mover this week with their 5th at Peoria and move from #19 to #8. Normal West is the highest newcomer in the top 30 at #15 after their race in Peoria. Cary-Grove jumps back in at #23 after a week out of the rankings. Highland steps in at #29 for their first time in the 2021 rankings.

Class 2A Girls – September 7, 2021

2A Girls Notes – Vernon Hills stays at the top spot this week after winning the Lake County Meet on September 1. Grayslake Central, who finished behind Vernon Hills at Lake County, turned that around finishing second at Fenton ahead of the Cougars. The Rams move into #2 up three spots. Latin School jumps into the top ten at #3 behind a powerful 1-2 punch with Ava Parekh winning the Varsity race and Mia Kottler winning the Sophomore race last Saturday at Hinsdale. Chatham-Glenwood drops down two spots to #4 after finishing third at Granite City. Lake Forest, who had strong races on the sophomore level at Hinsdale, were strong enough overall to move into the top five.

Eight teams move into the top 30 led by Normal University at #6. The Pioneers though they would be competing in 1A until August when they found out that they would be moving back up. A strong freshman group have this team with hunger to move into the top five. Interestingly, they would have been ranked #4 this week if they were still in 1A. Waterloo with a strong race at Granite City, moves into the top 30 at #16.

8/23 2A Girls Notes – The IHSA on August 18 made changes to the 2021 XC Classifications. Riverside-Brookfield, HL Richards, and Marist were moved from Class 3A to Class 2A. Riverside-Brookfield is now ranked #24; Marist is now ranked #28 in 2A. Normal University was in 2A in 2020; they were mistakenly moved to 1A for the 2021 season. Normal University was moved back to 2A on August 28. They are not ranked in 2A. Northside Prep and Waterloo were moved out of the top 30.
